5s cases

2014-06-02 Thread Hope Pauloss
Hello all. I received an iPhone 5s. Can anyone recommend any good cases? I had
an OtterBox case for my 4S but want good protection as well as the ability to
use the fingerprint ID.

Re: Odd voice over and speaker issue

2014-05-29 Thread Hope Pauloss
This doesn't do do the trick unfortunately. The speaker will come on during
dictation, as well as a few seconds after unlocking the phone. I looked online,
and someone had said that it could be stuck in dock mode. I don't know.l

Yeah, this is definitely a simple fix. When this happened to me way back I
was also stumped as I thought of volume in terms of a Windows computer.

 Try this...

 1. When on one of your home screens execute a 2-finger swipe up to read all
on the screen then use your volume up button on the side of the iPhone to
 raise the sound.

 2. use Siri to ask a question which will result in a long answer such as:
what is the weather like this week?
then use the volume up button on the side to raise Siri volume.

Try with headset on to determine if any further tweaking is necessary.

Oh yeah, if any other freakiness is happening, you might also execute a full
shutdown and restart of your device.

 Hello Hope,

Actually, Alex has the right idea about checking volume level.

The problem you are encountering has to do with the fact that iOS stores
device sound profiles. This means that the volume level you set for say the
old-style Apple earphones and the new EarPod models are seen as completely
separate devices by iOS. The same is true for when you do not have any
device attached to your phone. This is why you are experiencing different
sound levels when the headset is not attached.

Now, to make it even more interesting, the sound level you have when
VoiceOver is reading the status line is different from that which Siri uses.

For whatever reason, your device's Siri volume level, non-headset profile,
is set to zero and this is forcing your VoiceOver volume level to zero as
 well.

 How do I know?

Because the exact same thing happened to me, but only in reverse. That
is, I could hear voiceover after using Siri but only when the headset was
 not attached.

The solution is very simple if not intuitive.

With the headset not attached, initiate Siri via the Home button. Ask it
for the current date, or something like that. Then, of course, release the
Home button. Immediately after releasing the Home button, begin tapping the
Volume Up button on the side of the device. You will begin hearing Siri's
reply and with it your VoiceOver level should be restored as well.

It may take a couple of tries as timing is imparitive on this, okay?

 Good Luck,

 Mark

 S. I've done that. It seems to have something to do with Siri. After I use
Siri, voiceover goes silent if the headset is not plugged in.

Have you checked your VO volume? Go to a home screen, go to the top, do a
two-finger swipe down to read all, and hit the volume up key. The iPhone
stores a different audio level for the speaker than for headphones, so a
headset may work fine while VoiceOver's internal speaker volume is low. Siri
would also work, because its volume is also independent.

Hello all. I have an odd voiceover issue. Voice over works fine when in my
headset, but when I unplug the headphones, nothing speaks. The speaker works
fine, because Siri works from the external speaker. What can I do to fix
 this?
