Re: Questions About Using A Keyboard With My IPhone

2020-01-30 Thread J.Cyr
Thank you Richard and Holly!

It is good to know I can just get there using the phone, however, Richard, that
list sounds like a treasure, I'll be downloading it ASAP, thank you so much for
telling me about it! And those commands sound very simple. I was primarily
concerned about email (I'm changing my desk top to a Mac at the same time and
I'm not sure how quickly (or slowly) I'll be able to use the new email on it),
but I did want to know about text messages too, and about the possibilities in
general. Between your instructions and a comprehensive list I now look forward
to exploring.

Thanks again,
Joy

Questions About Using A Keyboard With My IPhone

2020-01-30 Thread J.Cyr
Good day,
I'll shortly be getting a Bluetooth keyboard which I will be able to pair with
my IPhone. (it is an IPhone 8 and I'm still running IOS 12.41 on it.) Up
until now I've only used the actual phone. I've been given a list of commands
for a keyboard/IPad and assured most of them should work for my phone but I
still have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone will help me with please.

If I open the email app with the phone, open a message and go to the message
body if I start typing on the keyboard will that automatically be typing in the
message body?Or do I need to get to it via the keyboard? If I do have to used
the keyboard to open the app and create a message how would I do that?

I'll appreciate any tips, advice or suggestions please.

Sincerely,
Joy

Before I found out about the screen curtain my cat "swiped" mine on more than
one occasion, I think usually by accidentally dragging her tail over the

I've also seen a yarn with a percentage of silver blended into it that can be
used to knit or crochet conductive gloves.

Answering Incoming Whatsapp Calls

2019-10-10 Thread J.Cyr
Good evening,
I recently received my first whatsapp call and was unable to answer it. I can
place a call using whatsapp both from the app and from my contacts list, but
for some reason nothing worked when the call was incoming, it was as though the
screen had frozen. Any idea what may have happened and the best way to work
around it?

I have not downloaded the new IOS, and I am using an IPhone 8.

As ever any advice or help would be most welcome.

Thank you,
Joy

Re: apple keynote

2019-09-11 Thread J.Cyr
Well all I can say is the larger phones are an indescribable nuisance for those
of us with smaller hands! The 8 is bigger than I like but manageable,
something larger would be a real problem. And although small my hands and
wrists are strong, I can't imagine how someone with small weak hands manages.
I would adore a smaller model, it would be easier to hold and handle and I
could utilize screen functions more efficiently.

way of forcing me to practice, however, having an alternative is always a good
idea. I'll go experiment.

Re: Siri claims I have no voicemail messages and refuses to dial!

2019-08-29 Thread J.Cyr
I've had the same experiences re Siri saying I have no voice mail (Even when I
have just missed a call and heard the notification announcing a message was
left) and she will refuse to phone saying that there are no voice mail
messages. It has been this way since I first got my IPhone 8 in January so I
had thought it was just the way Siri is. (Frankly the feature is such a
disappointment in so many ways one more didn't make a major difference.) But
if these are actions that it can perform that would be great.

Re: How To Have Voice Memos Icon Display On Home Screen?

2019-08-17 Thread J.Cyr
Dear Richard,
The method you describe is the one I tried to use. For some reason although it
is showing up fine in other places when I have the focus on the voice memos
button I am unable to flick up and get edit. flicking up simply moves the
focus to the previous button. I went through the rotor several times and
neither actions nor edit show up as options although one or other is available
on every other screen I've checked.

Any ideas? Please?

Thanks,
Joy

How To Have Voice Memos Icon Display On Home Screen?

2019-08-16 Thread J.Cyr
Good evening,
Can someone please explain to me how to get my Voice Memos icon on my home
screen? I tried to move it the way I've moved other icons, and reviewed the
instructions that have worked in the past, but it simply doesn't appear to be
working for Voice Memos. If there is really no alternative I'll add it to the
control centre but I'd prefer to have it display with the other apps I use
regularly.
My thanks to anyone who can help me solve this minor mystery.

Sincerely,
Joy

Re: Dick Tatian problem

2019-08-01 Thread J.Cyr
That's odd since I have frequently spelt words in dictation and they have come
out correctly. It doesn't appear to recognize things like the at symbol so it
is of limited value in email and/or website addresses but otherwise has handled
spelling, full words and punctuation fairly well in my (admittedly somewhat
limited) experience. I was introduced to dictation originally precisely
because I complained that I had tried to spell something to Siri and had not
been understood!

Re: Adding A New WIFI Network

2019-06-18 Thread J.Cyr
Thank you Dave, I do understand that being near enough for the WIFI network to
show automatically and then joining it is a simple way to add a network.
However, the option to manually enter the information (network name and

would really prefer to use it in this specific instance.

Adding A New WIFI Network

2019-06-17 Thread J.Cyr
Good day,
I would like to add a second WIFI network to my IPhone 8. What is the easiest
way to go about doing this please? I am not close enough for the network name
to display automatically, and while I've seen the button with my own WIFI name
I'm not sure where to find the set up for a second connection. (And this does
need to be an addition, my current one has to stay up and functional now and in
the future.)

Thank you for any help,
Sincerely,
Joy

Re: Headphones & Home Button Questions

2019-06-04 Thread J.Cyr
Actually there is a fourth option, you can buy a converter that plugs into the
lightening port and lets you plug in standard ear phones. As it happens I'm
placing an order for one today.

Re: Flick Type, Was Re: copying text from pc to iOS?

2019-05-10 Thread J.Cyr
Dear Alan,
Thank you for the background on flickType, ... sorry, but how does it actually
work please? I'm very interested in anything that allows me to "type" more
quickly on the phone but I'd like to have some idea of its actual usage before
trying it out. For one thing does it come up every time a keyboard is/would be
displayed? And what do you do to use it?

Thanks for any and all clarifications,
Joy

This is fascinating and I'm going to want to follow up on several of the things
mentioned in this thread, however, for the moment please what is flick typing?
Because if it is an improvement on find letter, select letter, double tap
letter I really want to know all about it!

Thanks, Joy

Re: IPhone Email questions

2019-05-01 Thread J.Cyr
Peter, thank you for the detailed instructions. You do understand my problem,
unfortunately I just tried your solution and I haven't been able to make it
work, that is the "trash" button is still "dimmed" when I put the voice over
back on and attempt to delete. However, I'm still not an experienced tapper
(or tap and holder) so I will try again and ask someone else to give it a go
when I have a chance. Considering my volume of mail (before duplicate and
triplicate downloads) I really do need to get that feature functioning. (Even
more so if I can't stop downloading messages that have theoretically been
deleted from the server.)

Again, Thank you for the help,
Joy

Re: IPhone Email Questions

2019-04-30 Thread J.Cyr
Alan, Thank you, that definitely gives me something to investigate since it
sounds as though you are using a set up that has a lot in common with mine.
(Except I'm running Outlook Express on my PC so I'm sure you can appreciate why
I want to fiddle around on my main device as little as possible.) However, I
had seen IMAP on my server but didn't know what it referred to and have been in
the habit of letting a tech deal with all of these issues. I'll get in touch
and see if they will support a duel setting.

Not to be fussy, but any chance someone might take a stab at addressing my
second question? Why have I not been able to delete the contents of my IPhone
in-box after marking the messages?

Thanks,
Joy

Re: IPhone Email Questions

2019-04-30 Thread J.Cyr
You are right, it is a pop account. Can I change it only on the phone?
Because there isn't a way to do so on my computer. Let us just say that I'm
running an old system and old software (for the moment anyway) and leave it at
that.

But would the type of account really prevent me from selecting and deleting
messages en mass?

Thanks!

What you describe sounds like you use the POP protocol which should be avoided
like the plague. I don’t know your email provider, but most nowadays support
IMAP and if you set up your email account on your iPhone as well as your
computer using the IMAP protocol you will have no more issues such as you
describe and in addition you get proper syncing of emails, e.g. if you reply to
an email on your iPhone the email will show as replied to on the computer and
the corresponding sent message is in your Sent Items folder, if you delete an
email on your iPhone it will also be deleted on the computer. Essentially with
IMAP any changes you do are done on the server and any devices whether it’s one
iPhone and one computer or one iPhone and 5 computers get all the changes.

Subject: IPhone Email Questions

Good day,

I am having two problems with my email on the IPhone.

First, I have the one server and email account. I mainly use my Email on my
primary device which is not my IPhone. I have my mail set to delete from the
server when it downloads to this computer (my primary device), and not to
delete from the server on the IPhone.

My problems/questions are, that the phone is downloading mail more than once
even after the message has gone to my primary computer and therefore is no
longer on the server. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

And what makes that problem worse is although I have repeatedly checked and
followed all the instructions I could find (and tried a few variations) I have
been unable to delete the entire contents of my in-box. I have "marked" the
messages in every way possible but nothing I do changes the delete button from
dimmed. Is there some other background setting I need to change or something I
can fix so I can mark and delete all these messages at once? It is time
consuming and very unpleasant to have to do them one at a time, and to have
gotten rid of a substantial number only to see them all come flooding back is
very frustrating. (To be Extremely polite!)

Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Joy

Screen Protector Recommendation?

2019-04-27 Thread J.Cyr
Good morning,
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good screen protector that will fit
well (no bubbling) and still let the phone be responsive? Also where is the
best place to buy one (preferably online)?

Thanks for any help,
Sincerely,
Joy
