Sonos accessibility

2015-12-27 Thread Laura
Hi guys

I got a Sonos playbar for Christmas. Love the sound and setting it up was
incredibly straight forward.

Couple of questions, though. I read somewhere before purchasing (old Apple Vis
thread, I think?) that the Mac Sonos app was completely accessible. This
doesn’t seem to be the case for me. I’m seeing a lot of unlabelled buttons, and
no easy way to pick a music source. Am I missing something? I’m using the
latest version.

Second thing: is anyone using Apple music through Sonos? I can’t seem to find a
way to navigate the “my music” section by letter — so if I want to find a song
starting with P, I can’t just jump to that letter and scroll from there. I have
a lot of music, so having to scroll through every song/album to find something
I want isn’t ideal, especially when search on the beta currently only searches
Apples Music, and isn’t limited to individual my music libraries. I know it’s
only beta, so could be a bug. Just wondering if anyone has got it to work, or
if there’s an alternative and quicker method of navigation I could use
meantime. I’m assuming it’s an accessibility issue, because I can’t imagine
there wouldn’t be more comment on it if every user was coming up against this
problem.

Cheers for any input.

Laura

Cool 3D Touch feature in mail

2015-09-26 Thread Laura
Hi

I've seen some discussion about 3D Touch not offering VO users much in mail.
Just wanted to say that's where I've found one of my favourite uses for it. If
you force touch on a link, it opens right in the app with no need to go to
safari. Pretty handy time saver, particularly if you get daily newspaper
emails, etc.

Anyway hope that helps someone.

gestures for the Kindle app

2015-04-27 Thread Laura Bratton
Hi All,
where can I learn about the different gestures to use with the Kindle app? I
know that three flick to the left and right moves from page to page. Is there a
way to get to a page without going through each page?
Any help on how to best navigate would be great!
Thank you for the help,

The good things in iOS8

2014-09-20 Thread Laura
Hi

I know there have been some bugs, and I know there's been some upset, but I
wanted to take a moment to recognise the good things in iOS8.

I love the direct typing feature. I've been hoping for it for years, and I'm so
much faster on both the iPad and iPhone as a result. I also love having Alex as
an option, and having braille as a universal input will make it much easier to
type in louder environments

I'm not saying we shouldn't give them feedback about the bugs, or that we
shouldn't complain if they don't listen, but we could also recognise the things
they have done well. And it's also worth noting that a lot of sighted people
are upset about the bugs in the current release. I'd be wary about reading too
much into apple's commitment to accessibility based on the voiceover bugs in
this release.

Cheers.

Calendar question

2014-09-14 Thread Laura Bratton
Hi all,
How do I stop Calendar from sending invites when I make an appointment. For
example. When I use Siri to schedule an event on calendar and give the person's
name it sends them an invite email. Using voice over how do I stop this from
happening?
Also, are there any other apps that people would recommend to use other than
the calendar that is on the iPhone?
Thanks for all the help,
Laura

Re: battery

2014-03-24 Thread Laura ann Grymes
I too have had the a battery drain since upgrading to 7.1.

I have turned off after charging then turned back on and it helps but one day
the phone battery completely drained in half a day.
I called apple and they did a battery test and it was good so they wanted me to
completely erase and restore.
This had been done recently for another issue and I told them I would continue
to work with it and do it later if necessary.

Thanks for the earlier suggestion on checking background app refresh and
turning off the drop box and fourswaure and google maps.
I will try that today.

The battery drains much faster now with IOS 7.1

I have bluetooth turned off.
I have noticed a new update always turns it on and I have to go turn it off
again.

Those around me who have IPhones are not having this issue and do not use voice
over.

problem with using siri

2013-10-30 Thread Laura Bratton
Hi All,
I have another question about the latest IOS update. Since I have updated, I am
having problems when using Siri. For example, If I ask Siri to send a text
message to someone I cannot tap on the screen to have VO read what I have
Spoken. if I ask Siri to remind me about an appointment and then tap on the
screen to read it or edit it all I can read is a "listen" button, a "help"
button and then the time and battery status.
What do I need to do to be able to get to the message or reminder that Siri has
created?
Thanks for all the help,

Navigating text in iBooks on iPhone 5s

2013-10-08 Thread Laura
Hi
On my iphone 5s, I can get VO to read iBooks using a two finger swipe down, or
three finger horizontal swipe, but I can't seem to touch the text on the page
anymore. It's like VoiceOver doesn't recognise that there's anything there when
I touch the screen, which means I can't start reading from any point that's not
the top of the page, or easily review specific words or lines. It works fine on
my iPad mini and an iPhone 5, both running iOS 7. Anyone ever had this before,
and/or know of a way to resolve it?

Thanks.

Re: calendar question

2013-09-25 Thread Laura ann Grymes
you open the individual event on the schedule and can then edit it if need be.
on the day view it does read what the event is but on the overall view of the
month it does not.
just says 1 or 2 or 3 events and so on.

I am getting use to new calendar and like using the native app.

I have not had any issues with it and if did would just put away from face and

Re: Kindell verses iBooks

2013-09-23 Thread Laura ann Grymes
I use kindle app on IPhone or iPad for kindle books and purchase audible books
linked to amazon account and then read them if I choose on a digital recorder.
I don't really use the whisper sink but my mom and I share the kindle account
so she also is reading the kindle books.

Works for us.
I read in kindle, Ibooks, audible and enjoy all of them.

I would use both apps and get a free book through each and try it out on your
devices to see which you like best.

Both are good.

Re: Calendar Issues

2013-09-23 Thread Laura ann Grymes
I have loved using the native calendar app for IOS and not had problems until
IOS 7.
The fix is to use the search button and you can view your list of apts.

It has worked well for me and no issues entering appointments and its been
totally accessible with exception of now just seeing event but am using the
work around until its fixed.

Re: Kindell verses iBooks

2013-09-23 Thread Laura ann Grymes
I enjoy both apps and use them both.
I mainly purchase kindle books but check ibooks and kindle and purchase based
on price and availability.

I use kindle to be able to also purchase audible books at a discount at times.

Both apps work and I enjoy having choices of books and being able to shop and
price compare.
I agree Kindle book selection is better than ibooks.

Thank you!
I bought your app the other day when I saw it was an accessible crossword app.
I look forward to trying it.

Thanks for fixing it I couldn't figure out why it looked like I only had one
crossword but were way more available.

Are there ever themed crosswords like birding, Bible, gardening, flowers, food,
cats, and so on ?

Paprika and the developer is willing to listen to suggestions and communicates.

There is an app for IPad, IPhone and Mac.
I am using the one for IPhone and Mac together.
I enter recipes with mac then read them with iPhone and have them with me and

Re: Seeking your thoughts about Calendar app

2013-08-16 Thread Laura ann Grymes
I am needing something to track appointments for massages that is accessible
and the office staff can enter or I can enter and we all can edit.

I currently use calendar in IOS and on mac for my schedule but haven't been
using it for massage clients scheduled.

Need a good way for interaction between office staff and I for it.
Currently they keep my schedule on the books with the doctor's schedule I work
with but looking for somewhere to put apps accessible for me and easy for
office staff.

they go over your ears and fit in front of them near your cheek bones or right

its behind the head headset not over the top of your head.
Hope that makes sense.

Re: Bad experience with iTunes Store support regarding app refund

Have you contacted the apple accessibility department by phone.
I did recently and they walked with me through the refund for an app that
wasn't accessible and they were very pleasant.

You need to contact the accessibility department though not just the tech
support.

problem with speaker phone

2013-06-19 Thread Laura Bratton
HI All,
I have an I-phone 5. When I am on a call my phone will change to speaker phone
if I move my hand at all. Any ideas how to stop this from happening? Is there a
way to turn speaker phone off so that it will not go to speaker phone?
Thank you for any help,

Re: Hurricane Apps?

2012-08-26 Thread Laura ann Grymes, LMT
the weather radio app cost but does alert in a warning and you can choose
whether you want warnings, watches and so on with hurricanes, tornadoes,
thunderstorms, severe storms, fire and so on.

the NOA email link I sent for the web emails hurricane info for Atlantic or
pacific.
you choose and set it up.
you end up with lots of emails in hurricane season but worth it when its
heading your way or toward loved ones.

the
emergency email alert emails are also free and great for your local area alert
by zip code.

Hurricane by red cross looks to be accessible as I was just playing with it.
it has an alert area, shelters and test to be prepared.
It also has a prepare section with info.

I also have weather radio

there is also a shelter view app I found a while back I loaded.

Re: iBooks?

2012-08-04 Thread Laura ann Grymes, LMT
you open Ibooks,
select books from top of screen,
tap on bookshelf at bottom left of screen,
select the book you want to read and tap.
the book opens and voice over will read it.
this was using the iphone.

Its the same on an iPad.
Hope that helps to read your book in Ibooks.
You can probably find a wonderful tutorial from Apple Vis or David woodbrige
from vision australia, or All with my iPhone.
All are in iTunes or you could find on their web sites.

Re: Aftershokz Headphones with mic

It has a small usb adapter type plug and on the other end is a place to plug in
headset.
You plug it into the computer to charge.
I haven't had to charge yet.

I think if you forget to turn off they turn themselves off after a certain
amount of time.
I was using it to test the other day while working and when I went to check
time on my phone it was silent.
I turned them back on and it worked.

so would say they went to sleep or turned off.

The piece for charging was small and you could have missed it in the packaging.
I almost did.
Hope this helps?

Re: Aftershokz Headphones with mic

2012-07-08 Thread Laura ann Grymes, LMT
I have the one that does not activate the phone but is a headset.
It works well with the Iphone and I can hear voice over well.
I am using it to hear the time and have my phone be silent while I am working.
I am planning to try the one that also works with the phone to answer calls.

The reviews on amazon.com mentioned some static with that one so was trying the
sport headset first.

So far in the couple weeks I have had the headphones, I like then a lot and
like that I can hear what is going on around me.

Yes you would use itunes but its different than the windows experience with it

Yes there are pod cast to learn and listen to.

Tech doctor pod cast does a comparison between windows and mac.

Serotalk pod cast is an excellent resource for technology.

Triple click home is also an excellent info pod cast for apple technology.

apple vis

Apple and other technology from vision Australia has excellent demos and info.

Apple has great tech support.
You might consider purchasing apple care.

I have been using assistance up to then but am going to try the blue tooth
headset method mentioned on triple click home.

swiping card is tricky somedays but learned to lay phone flat before swiping.

Re: Voicebook VO Notice

2012-06-23 Thread Laura ann Grymes, LMT
when you download the app its free and has full function of being able to read
and comment to post and post comments and so on.

after 30 days you can pay $1.99 to continue to be able to post and make
comments and have other active abilities.

Free you can read post and your newsfeed.
So free after 30 days is just ability to read not post or comment.

I highly encourage the $1.99 purchase to help support the developer's hard work
and commitment to accessibility and adding new features.
to read you swipe up or down.
to bring up a menu double tap on any post to see choices.
if you want to interact with a specific post be on it when you double tap and
bring up a menu.
then you can choose to like, comment and so on or choose to post which would be
you posting a status from

I am still learning and playing with it but so far really enjoy the app.

Re: voiceover speech not returning to normal sometimes after ending a call

2012-06-19 Thread Laura
Hi

I've seen this a few times. Usually, getting the phone to play another
sound fixes it for me. I tend to just get the phone to start playing music,
and then Voiceover comes back properly.
