Re: Questions regarding smart bulbs, and Apps

2022-01-10 Thread Melanie Clouser
Terri:

I have used the Phillips Hue Smart Bulbs (A19) in 5 of my lamps and/or pendant
lights. I found their app to be pretty accessible. Using these bulbs required
the purchase of a hub to be connected to my modem/router before linking it to
my Alexa (2nd edition). Since then, I have updated my Alexa to the 4th edition
which I believe has it's own integrated hub that may negate the need for the
Phillips Hub. I haven't pursued that yet. The bulbs I bought are dimmable and
work well with the Alexa. It's pretty cool to tell Alexa to dim my kitchen
island lights to 30% or 100% ... or even all the way down to 10%. Of course,
this only works if others in my home would stop turning off the light switch.
Alexa can't turn on the island lights if the switch is turned off. With regard
to the one bulb I put in my Mom's reading lamp, that one won't dim up/down in
intensity since the lamp is older and doesn't allow for dimmable bulbs. All we
can do there is have Alexa turn it on or off. Furthermore, I also use Amazon
plugs that are pretty cool since they work to turn on/off any device that's
plugged into it. I use them most extensively for our Christmas tree and other
decor that lighted up. This year I had them set to turn off the tree and other
lighted decor by simply saying ... "Alexa ... Merry Christmas." I even had
Alexa play Silent Night when we had her turn off te Christmas Tree at night.

In the past, I purchased TP Plugs but didn't like their accessibility or ease
(or lack of ease) in configuring them. Maybe they've update things since then.
I have also bought GE light switches that are supposed to be configurable with
Alexa but I haven't succeeded in getting them configured. I'm told that maybe
they don't work with my type of recessed lighting. Either that ... or my
brother failed to use a particular adapter that was supposed to be installed
when the switches were installed. But, I also found the GE app not all that
accessible ... or just a bit confusing.

Hope that helps some.

Melanie

Re: Speech problem

2021-11-06 Thread Melanie Clouser
I, too, have experienced this issue on my SE II ... but, on a few occasions,
when this happens ... I've discovered that the VO is coming through one
specific Amazon Echo Dot with the other sounds still coming from the phone I'm
holding in my hand. I have had to disconnect the Echo Dot on ethese occasions
to get VO back.

Sieghard ... we have the exact same LG TV ... and, I, too, love the remote.
I've not read where the Sonos ARC has any issue with this TV but I was looking
at the Sonos Beam. I've read that the Beam tends to lag in audio behind the
video output on the LG OLED TV that you and I now have. Maybe the newer model
fixed that lag. I hadn't wanted to buy the ARC due to it's price ... but maybe
I'll need to break down and suck up that price.

Re: Soundbar app accessibility

2021-10-26 Thread Melanie Clouser
Soundbars range in price from the cheapest in quality and sound at about $99 to
the best in quality and sound upwards of hundreds of dollars to a thousand or
more. The Sonus ARC is quite pricey but most likely worth the cost if you
choose to pay that amount. I've not heard the Sonus Beam but people claim it's
quite good as well at a price tag of about $400. I'm looking at various models
of soundbars comparing various features ... but I'm very interested in how the
apps are accessible. I've got a LG TV and I find the LG apps less than
accessible. And, although I'd prefer the Sonus product ... I've read where the
Beam tends to have issues working properly with the LG OLED TV sound output.
Therefore, I'm also looking at Bose and Samsung soundbars but avoiding LG due
to their app issues. As a side note ... most lower quality soundbars or cheap
ones don't often work with Alexa. Working together with Alexa is a must for me.
I'm all about making my home smarter.

Soundbar app accessibility

2021-10-25 Thread Melanie Clouser
Hello.

I'm in the market for a soundbar. Can anyone tell me if the Bose app is
accessible? I downloaded the app to test it out but it wants me to register
with my device ... and I haven't yet bought a soundbar. I wanted to test out
different apps before settling on a device.

Bluetooth Earbuds (Apple Pros)

2020-07-22 Thread Melanie Clouser
Hello:

Can anyone tell me whether the lag in VoiceOver when using bluetooth
earbuds is gone when/if using the Apple Pro Earbuds (now on sale at B
Photo Video)? I’ve ben tempted to purchase them now that I’ve upgraded my
iPhone to the new SE model. I’ve only ever used cheaper bluetooth earbuds
and I find the lag intollerable. Hoping the better Apple Pro
Earbuds/Earpods are better and do something about the lag in VoiceOver.

At the time, no, it did not work. It is working now though. Somehow having my
niece open Contacts without VoiceOver fixed my problem. Not sure what the
problem really was used by. But it’s okay now. Thanks.

Re: IOS 8.1.2 (cannot open Contacts using VoiceOver)

2014-12-13 Thread Melanie Clouser
I’ve done all that. I’ve even gone into the settings to check out things there.
The checkbox to show Contacts in the App Switcher is now grayed out. I cannot
turn it back on. It was initially turned on when I first upgraded to IOS 8.1
weeks ago. But, now I can’t even turn it back on. The only thing I can think of
doing is resetting settings but I’m not sure that will work for the app opening
 r closing.

Just tapping anywhere on the screen in these situations, after hearing the
last item spoken which was the one that I'd wanted, just hasn't worked. It
hasn't occurred with Contacts in my case and in fact I can't remember the

the last item as Contacts and double tapping the screen anywhere but
actually finding the Contacts and positioning my finger on it to open.

You might want to give it a go.

I don't think it's a good work around myself and it shouldn't be necessary to
position a finger on particular buttons to double tap them, but it sometimes
is, so I live with it!

all of a sudden it works. Go figure!

Re: Pages after upgrading to Mavericks

2014-04-26 Thread Melanie Clouser
Uninstalled the Toolbox For Pages. That was a good thing. It drove me nuts.
But, it didn't help me to find the Pages app using a spotlight search.
Nothing is found when I search. Nor can I redownload Pages from the App Store.
That button remains grayed-out. But, the app opens when/if I open a document
created with Pages. I can also open a blank document from within Pages once
I've opened the app using an already created document. But, I cannot open the
app directly because I don't know where it is on my Mac. It isn't in the
applications folder. Nor, apparently, is it on my system. I'm perplexed!

Thank you. I found the credit counter. That encourages me to purchase more
credits. I didn't want to purchase another 100 credits without having soome way
to monitor the loss of credits as I take pictures. I s AS i said, there's
absolutely no way I used 100 pictures in 3 weeks not when I varely take 10
pictures a week. I'm wondering if having upgraded my phone to the 5s from the 4
had anything to do with osing my credits. I upgraded less than one week before
TapTapSee reported that I'd used all my credits.
