RE: iPod and Evernote

2016-01-06 Thread Paul Roberts
I have had a similar think happen on my Iphone 5S and am somewhat baffled as to
how it's hapendn.

In both instances when it's happened, i've had to get a sighted person to
unlock my phone, enter my passcode and then go to settings, general,
accesibility and then turn voiceover on, as it's been turned off, even though I
hadn't turned it off.

The last time this happend to me, I was scrolling through some texts when
voiceover stopped talking and then I couldn't hear the clicking noisesd , it
was just completely dead but was stil working as someone was abel to unlock it
for me.

So, I too would apreciate any suggestions on this please.

I have two basic problems with my iPad.

One is that the Voice output keeps getting turned off and other than going in
to the Zettings to turn it back on, which I can't see well enough to do, there
is nothing I can do. Advice?

Also I added Evernote. When I open it on my iPad all I get is a figure of a

below it.. and no way to open Evernote up to use it. Advvice on that?

RE: iPhone classes

2015-12-25 Thread Paul Roberts
Hi Kelly,

I bought my 5S in march 2014, as my Nokia phone's on/off switch had fallen off.

I decided, after an hour or so's one to one, to buy the Iphone and am glad I
did, even though it took me a while to get used to it.

I am very good at some things but stil a little slower with other things but I
wouldn't be without the phone now as it's so much better than my other mobiles
and you can do far more with the Iphones.

When I bought my iPhone 5 in 2012, I was provided a one hour tutorial
on voiceOver on at Apple store when I told them that this was my first
cell phone ever. After the tutorial, I realized how many fundamentals
I needed to learn and to become accustomed to using a touch screen
interface. Even though the trainer at the Apple store was sighted, he
was as proficient at voiceOver as experienced blind foiceOver users.
It took me two to three months of practice to become comfortable
navigating the iPhone's touch screen interface. this is something
that doesn't come through teaching but through practice.

RE: voiceover going off

2015-12-06 Thread Paul Roberts
Hi Sieghard and thanks for your helpful mesage.

Not sure that the volume was or has been the issue when this problem has
arisen, however your second suggestion sounds worth looking at.

The only reason I never upgrade when the new IOS comes in as there seems to be
so many bugs and I only updated to 8.3, once the initial version 8 bugs had
been ironed out.

I had thought version 9.2 had come out but wil updae I htink within the next
week or so.

Thanks again for your help.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Is it possible that you experience a situation where Voiceover volume drops all
the way down to zero and while you think Voiceover is not running it is in fact
working fine but there is just no volume? One way to check this is to plug in a
headset when this happens. Headset volume is separate from speaker volume and
in many cases when this happens and speaker volume drops to 0 headset volume is
still up and you can hear Voiceover just fine as soon as you plug in a headset.

Alternatively, you can press the home button to display the lock screen, then
do a 2-finger swipe up which starts reading the lock screen and right away
after you do the swipe press the volume up button multiple times. If it is a
volume issue this should start raising the volume to where you can hear it
again.

If it is not a volume issue, then doing a hard reset by pressing the power
button together with the home button for about 8 seconds may get you back up
and running without sighted help.

I also would suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of iOS 9. Even the
8.4.x series of updates resolved several Voiceover bugs if I remember
correctly. You may of course have your own reason why you continue to run 8.3,
but while there are still bugs, iOS 9.1 now (less than 3 months after the first
release of iOS 9) is in my opinion better than any version of iOS 8 ever was. I
expect 9.2 to be released publically any time now, they pushed out betas for
iOS 9.2 almost once a week and I think 9.2 is now up to Beta 5, but there
hasn’t been a new beta in 2 weeks or so and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw
the public release of 9.2 next week.

Sieghard

Hi all,

Quite a while since i've posted on here but this is due to on-going email

Anyway, I currently use an Iphone 5S and currently ruhning IOS8.3.

Since I bought my phone back in March 2014, I have had occasions when Voiceover
for some reason, stops talking and the only way to get it back is usually to
plug it in and after a time, Voiceover is back to normal. this hapend recently
when at a concert in Liverpool, Voicever wouldn't talk and so when I got home
and plugged it in, it was fine after a few minutes.

A fortnight ago I was staying near Preston and whilst on the train up, I
checked for mesages and had sevearl which I decided to read later on when I
arrived. I locked my phone and then an hour or so later, I decided to read
those mesages, plus send sevearl Emails.

well, Voiceover didn't work and even plugging in didn't make any differenc.

I got a member of hotel staff to come up so they could ring my Iphone to see if
it would activate but when I asked if the phone was on, they said it was and
that it was ready to unlock.

Well I got them to unlock but of course had to get them to enter my pass code.
As the screen looked normal, I got them to go to settings, general,
accessibility and then tap on voiceover.

Once done, Voiceover was back to normal and on checking the tripple tap of the
home keky, that was stil working.

This is the first time i've had to actually switch voicever back on after a
glitch and am somewhat baffled as to how this hapend in the first place.

The other thing is that these sorts of glitches tend to happen, either when i'm
say in work, or out locally or away in another area and so I'm wondering if
there's something in settings which I need to look at and possibly change, so
as to stop such glitches from happening.

any thoughts on the above would be most welcome.

RE: crashed iphone?

2015-08-27 Thread Paul Roberts
I had to do this, soon after I got my Iphone 5s.

One afternoon, I noticed I was getting no sound and when I checked with a
neighbor, they too couldn't see anything and so when I called the Apple Store
in Liverpool, they advised me to hold down, both the home and on-off buttons
together, for around 20 seconds

Whilst this didn't work ,I plugged my Iphone in, via the cable and plug which
came with it and after around 10 minutes or so, it started working again.

In more recent months, I have had a similar thing happen, whereby Voiceover
just stopps talking altogether but then it will sometimes come back on of it's
own acord.

All very strange indeed and rather irritating.

I would also try plugging the phone using the supplied adapter into a wall

accumulated over the years at my computer dest; The accuracy was amazing. Of
course, most of the papers were 8 X 11. I did try the KNFB Reader on bottles of
wine, credit cards, DVD disks, `igital LED read ous and found that it was hit
and miss on these items. Other apps tended to do a better job. However, overall
I'm impress with the app and the ability to be more portable and not to have to
use the StandScan Pro with a third party app is nice. I haven't yet
experimented with a book or magazine in batch mode. The only glitch that I have
seem to find is when I go to change the speed for reading, the app will not
take a picture unless I close it out through the app switcher and relaunch it.
Then the speed of reading will work at the setting that it was changed to.
These are only my first impressions.

British Gas App query

2014-11-09 Thread Paul Roberts
Hi all,

A visually impaired friend of mine has asked me to find out if any apple
users are having problem with the British Gas app.

My friend says that although he's downloaded it, he can't hear what the
buttons are for as voiceover just says the word button every time he goes
to a button on the site.

I think he's stil on IOS 7.

Any comments would be most welcome and then i'll pass them onto him.

regards

Paul.

Hi:
I have an iPhone 5s. For some reason, vo is sounding distorted. It's not the
main speaker. I've tried resetting the phone. I've tried toggling vo on and
off, and I've tried switching from compact to regular voice.

Re: phone has died

2014-05-06 Thread Paul Roberts
Hi all,

My Iphone 5S mysteriously died a week or so after buying it.

it was working fine in the morning but when I got home that afternoon, it
was completely dead.

I went to a neighbors to se if they could have a look and they told me
nothing was happening when I attempted to swithc it on.

I then rang the apple store, who advised me to plug it in and also press the
home and top key for about ten seconds, although he advised me do it for 20
seconds.

Nothing hapend and so I left it plugged in for a bit. soon after, Voiceover
started talking and all seemd to be well.

Then I noticed noone could get through to me and when I visited the apple
store the next day, I discovered I had inadvertently turned on the do not
disturb feature on my phone.

Apart from that, all else was wel with my phone.

apart from my suggestion of pluggging in and holding down the two buttons on
the phone, i'm sure the other suggestion could help too.

it's rather worrying when your phone dies just like that, for no apparent
reason.

Ok, I'm sure a lot of others with more experience than I might have better
suggestions. Here are mine, though.

First, is the phone charged? I know you said you plugged it in last night?
How you might be able to tell... Does the phone vibrate when you slide the
mute/unmute switch?

If yes, then see below. If not, then if you're sure the outlet you used to
charge the phone had juice, try turning the phone power on. You'll need to
wait about thirty seconds for it to boot.

If the phone did vibrate, then somehow your voiceover got turned off, or
your volume turned down.

1. The speaker volume and earpod volume are separate. So, try plugging in
your ear pods and see if you get voiceover.

2. Tap your home button. Flick down with two fingers to get the phone to
read the opening screen. As soon as you do that, tap the Volume Up button
a few times. If voiceover was down, this should bring it up to an audible
level.

3. If you enabled the triple-click home option for Voiceover, try that.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

I have no idea but my phone has just died. I charged it last night, and this
morning, it just isn't working.
How do I get it working again? No voiceover, so I don't even know if it's on
or off.

  Hello Debbie,
I have not seen an answer to your question. What I do each time I go away I
un-subscribe and the re-subscribe when I return. There is a way to do it online
but I haven't had much luck with this in the past.
