2015-08-25 Thread ikrami

Thank you for taking the time to write to them.
the guy suffers from a progressive case where the motion of his hands
become weaker and weaker over time. he reached a point where he can
barely move his fingers. This limited movement does not allow him to
control the screen through touch gestures.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. In your initial email, you mentioned Switch
Control, which does have a Speech setting. If you meant to refer to
Assistive Touch, this feature can be used with VoiceOver if they are
both enabled. If you could provide more information about the user’s
current configuration and what they would like to do, we may be able
to offer some more specific suggestions.

Sincerely,

Apple Accessibility

This is interesting.

There is no speech setting in the assistive touch settings.

It could be they meant go to the accessibility settings, speech, and
turn on speak selection, and speak screen, and select the voice you
want to use for that.

It could be that if you do that, and have a switch control, it will
speak as you move around, but their directions are rather poor.

Hello,

Thank you for your email. In order to use Switch Control with
speech, please go to Settings > General > Accessibility >
Assistive Touch > Speech to turn the feature on and select which
voice to use. More information is available here:

The Switch controls that would allow someone to use an external device to
run the iPhone can not be used at the same time as VoiceOver.
So, blind people with limited hand movement are out of luck right now.
We just discovered this at my work.
Please, everyone write, or call, Apple Accessibility and point out to them
that there are a lot of blind people who need the ability to use switch
controls.

RE: braille display to use with iPhone?

2017-06-23 Thread Ikrami
Orbit reader 20 is a new revolutionary 20 cell braille display made by orbit
research and American printing house for the blind. It is going to cost around
500 US dollars. I think it will hit the market this summer. It supports
connecting via USB and Bluetooth, as well as some basic note-taking
capabilities.
If you want another known solution, you can look for the smart beatles from
hims, which is 14 cell display around 1200 dollars, focus 14 by
freedomscientific is another option in the same price range.

Looking for a relatively cheap and small braille display. I want to use with
iPhone. Am I being unrealistic or does anyone have suggestions? Thanks for any
assistance.
