Question re turning off voice over key clicks

2023-10-16 Thread khaffar
Hi everyone:

This evening I reset all settings on my IPhone, I haven’t done that in many
years as I usually backed up my device and restored it to the new one. SO now I
can’t seem to figure out how to turn off the voiceover keyboard clicks and
other voiceover clicks like when moving around the screen.  I can’t seem to
find where to make these changes.

Thanks for your help

Watch OS 10 and switching watch faces

2023-09-19 Thread khaffar
Hi everyone:

Any idea how to switch faces with Watch OS 10. It use to be that a two-finger
swipe will move to the next face. This does not seem to work with this update.

Thank you,

Hi,
I am curious to know if there are any blood pressure monitors that will work
with an accessible app on the iPhone so that you don't have to have an
expensive blood pressure talking monitor. I am interested in a wrist device.
Thanks for any help.

Bluetooth headphones

2021-12-11 Thread khaffar
Hi everyone:

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good Bluetooth in the ear buds which
works well with Voiceover. I tried the Bose Quiet Comfort, they sound great for
listening to music but Voiceover lags when typing which is a problem. I know
the Airpods work well but I want something different than the Airpods.

Thank you,

Kamal

Hi Richard:

I would say it is not so busy, four or five appointments a day. What is
interesting in couple of months ago this was never an issue, it started to
happen with more recent app updates. It can take some time up to three to four
minutes before I am able to use the app, in fact, I can’t even exit it, so my
phone is frozen for this time. I reported the issue to the Outlook app team,
they suggested resetting the account, and if that doesn’t work to delete and
recreate the account but that did not fix it.

I am not familiar if the model from Independent Living is fully automated, but
the Qardio is, it has batteries and all you have to do is put it on, then sit
back and relax and with your other hand tap the start button in the app. It
will then inflate and do everything automatically. You can even set it to do 3
measurements and it will then take the average.

Hello friends.

I apologise if this topic has been discussed but I have a particular reason for
asking advice.

If you will allow me to explain.

I was recently admitted into hospital where I was diagnosed with
Pyelonephritis, and sepsis. During my stay in hospital I was also found to
have an atrial fibrillation. They are not sure whether the heart issue was
caused by the sepsis and I have to undergo further tests.

My Apple Watch can help me check my heart rate, but what options are there for
a totally blind person to check blood pressure.

I would appreciate your recommendations and thank you in advance for them.

Thank you for reading my post too.

Hello,

I am using the latest version of iPhone 13.1.2 and the latest version of apple
watch, series 4.
I have my watch paired to mirror the iPhone. When I put my iPhone on mute, and
the watch on mute, when I get a phone call, the watch still rings. Is there a
way to silence the ringer on the watch? I don’t want it ringing in church or a
meeting.
Any help is appreciated. Before the update, all worked fine.

RE: IOS apps with smart appliances

2019-04-22 Thread khaffar
Hi all:

FYI, after doing extensive research and visiting a number of department stores
this morning, it seems for now the best option for a washer and drier is the LG
WT7300CV in terms of accessibility. It has WIFI connectivity and compatible
with both Google Home and Alexa. I believe someone on this list earlier on
mentioned that the app is very accessible as well.

By the way, does anyone know of a mailing list for blind/visually impaired
persons that covers consumer related accessibility topics such as appliances,
electronics etc.…

Cheers,

That is good to hear, could you give me the model number?

I saw one model here, the GE PHB920SJSS, but it part of what’s called the
“Profile” series. This one in the States seems to be around $2,200 on sale for
around $1,989.00

But it is also a free-standing range and I need a built-in model. In any case,
it mentions Wi-Fi and Alexa, but it seem to apply only to the oven not the
cooktop.

Expensive is relative, I initially was looking at Bosch and so far most of the
GE and Asian-made ranges like Samsung, LG etc. were less expensive than the
German-made Bosch.

I started by checking reviews and such for the best 5 or whatever ranges of
2019, Miele was also mentioned, but as I said before, they are not affordable
for the average person. I looked up the model they mentioned in the review and
it was $10,699 Canadian, about $8,000 US). That didn’t even include taxes and
here in British Columbia we have 12% taxes, on such an amount that would have
been another $1,283 so in the end this Miele range would have cost $12,000
which is crazy.

Most of the Bosch ranges I saw are around $4,500 to $5,000 Canadian.

Regards,

Sieghard

2019-04-21 Thread khaffar
Hello:

Has anyone used or tested the accessibility of the LG, Samsung or GE apps with
WIFI enabled washer and driers? We are in the market to purchasing a new washer
and drier and hoping to find something that is accessible with using the Apps
given that most of the washers and driers these days have touch screens.

Thank you,

RE: Voice Dream Scanner.

2019-04-09 Thread khaffar
I agree, this is one of the best if not the best scanning app I’ve used so far.
I ran a number of tests on a few complex documents and on some documents that
were not very clear. In all cases with no exception VDS came on top.

I just tried VDS. Wow, is all I can say! Compared to other scanners out there
it outshines them all. I just took a piece of paper, put phone down in the
middle, lifted it up to where the tone was fairly steady and took the picture.
First try, great OCR! Never before on any of these apps did I even come close
on Ocr the first time! My hands shake too much. However, VDS was immediate!
Impressed.

I did read through some mail this morning but felt that as I worked through
what I had, there may have been a degradation in scan quality after doing and
discarding several documents. I tried closing the program and restarting and
finally got something which identified what I had, but just wondering if anyone
else has noted this. It might have been that I was set up at my kitchen table
and I am personally not as comfortable out there as I am in my big chair, page
in my lap, phone to the center of the document, lifting and positioning
properly to get picture. I will play with it some more. Overall, impressed and
pleased and think it will ultimately be useful until or if NFB gets things back
in action with KNFB Reader.

Russ, Thank you as well for that link. That demonstration was clearer to hear,
and I learned a lot of things with the descriptives there regarding settings
which I can try and work with as well.

I am pleased with the purchase. Thanks again for everyone’s help.

Smiles to all,

Go to the app Store app, go to the update tab, at the top of the screen flick
right to get to “my account”. Tap my account and then go down to “manage

it already blows Seeing AI away with the fact that you can do multipage
documents in a batch and save as one file with formatting in tact. And it is
all done right on the phone!

This is also where it blows KNFB Reader away to because still, for $99.99, they
cannot retain formatting.

I'd gladly pay quite a bit more for an app this easy to use and especially with
the integration with Voice Dream Reader.

But, please, try it out and give him the feedback you have on anything and
everything about the app.

Here is the latest info from Testflight which you have to have installed in

I've tested the app quite a bit in the two days I've known about it and it
blows everything else out of the water.

There is one very annoying thing in beta 3 that I've asked him to disable, but
if Edge Detection is on, there is a constant tone playing that is truly

It doesn't say below, but you can use the up volume button to capture the image.

Saving as PDF is not only fully accessible, but it retains any images in the

At this point, unless I can convince him to charge more, he is thinking of
charging $5.00 for the app.

I think it is worth much more.

Here's the high level stuff:

- State-of-the-art A.I. for OCR and text recognition: Fast and accurate, even
in poor lighting conditions. Works entirely on device: No need for internet and
your data stays private.

- Export scans as plain text or PDF with embedded text to another app, or save
them on your local device, iCloud, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

- Works with Voice Dream Reader. You need to download the latest beta version
of Voice Dream Reader, version 4.8.0. If you haven't signed up for beta, you
can do it here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/5amQM57U

Additional Features:

- Automatic detection of document edges for stretching and cropping

- Automatic detection of document orientation

- Automatic image enhancement

- Batch mode for scanning multiple pages quickly

- Spoken words are highlighted in the text or the image

- Select text-to-speech voice and change speed

- Uses premium voices purchased in Voice Dream Reader

Beta 3:

- Auto Scan (if an page is detected and phone is held steady for 2 seconds)

- Audible tone for page detection. VoiceOver only. Should there be a way to

- Capture Button is now the entire video preview window

- No longer read content again after enhancing image

- Minor bug fixes

Beta 2:

- Improved orientation detection

- Added option to automatic read text after capture

RE: the iPhone 10 xr

2019-02-10 Thread khaffar
Hi

There is a significant difference between the xr and the 6S. I had purchased
the XR initially and really liked it, however, the issue for me was with the
size of the XR, I carry the phone with me all the time at work and found it to
be somewhat bulky for me. I ended up getting the XS which is more money but I
had a good deal on the XS through my carrier at the time. Although it doesn't
seem to be much smaller than the XR but it had made a difference for me. With
regard to the audio it is much better than the 6S or 6s+ for sure. If it wasn't
for the difference in size, I would have stayed with the XR because if you
don't have any vision there is no difference in terms of speed or audio.

And now, we see where politics has gotten injected into this list. Honestly, if
I wanted politics, I would go to WorldNewsChat (oh wait, I am already there).
Now, if I want to hear about new developments for apps and services and
discussion with developers, that was this list, until today. Like some others,
I have been a very long time member of this list. Sure, I don’t post much, but
I do read a lot.

Now, sure, a lot of the blindness vendors have advertised in here periodically,
but those ads have been low key and low bandwidth. They have also allowed the
opening of a dialog with those vendors on issues that might crop up. I have
solved more than 1 problem this way on my iPhone as well as the Android device
(data tablet) I have.

As a considered thought, if the same application exists across both iOS and
Android, then the underlying service being used by us functions without regard
to platform. Thus, given that logic, platform for the apps is irrelevant when
it comes to functionality and support. Perhaps that needs to be kept in mind.

However, given the histrionics I just witnessed, perhaps it’s time I sought
support info elsewhere.

Thanks for the help, support and information folks.
