Hello, The app does have issues, but there is very good news. You can get through the setup process within the app. After that, there's a whole ecosystem of apps for Philips Hue. I use one called Hue Lights, I feel I get very good control with that app. Also, Siri can control these lights once configured. Finally, Philips has a web API that is well documented on their development site. I've used it with bash scripts extensively.
If you get the lights, share your setup story with us. I've been using them for years now so I certainly couldn't recall all of the details for that process at this point. They've been running so smoothly I've had no reason to reset the system. Even the upgrade from the original base to the base 2.0 with HomeKit support was smooth.
