Re: "OFF topic, slightly

2015-11-01 Thread Casey

Hi do you happen to know the model number of your router?
Also how easy is the router to configure with a screen reader and does
it have A web page to log in to so that you can adjust all of its
settings and how exactly do you log in to the router?
Then if you get the same brand of extender then let say if you have your
router down stairs and you plug in the extender up stairs will it still
boost the signal?

Also how do you configure the extender once you plug it in?
So you get it up and running?

Re: Extending WIFI Signal, was "OFF topic, slightly

2015-10-25 Thread Alex Hall
Using a normal router to extend range is difficult, because you won't want it
connected to the ISP's router but rather in a different location. For this, you
will normally need to install a different firmware package like Tomato or
OpenRTR, I believe the names are. Doing this is complex, but once it's done,
setting up the router as a repeater is pretty simple, according to the
tutorials. Again, bridging right from the ISP to another router via hard wire
is a different, much easier task, but that puts both boxes in the same area
which defeats the purpose of extending your range by a lot. If the new router
is much more powerful, or uses better hardware like AC wifi, that's a different
story and bridging will likely work just fine--hence why I plan to do it.
