I have found that occasionally voice over stops working. I just tell Siri to turn voice over off and then immediately tell her to turn it back on and then have voice over again. RE: 911 Calling Help Please.
Hi, I just talked to a few friends, who said their phones called 911 before, but they just answered the phone when 911 called back, and they told them they were fine. But, my phone just kept on calling and calling! I tried several times to stop the phone, as well as answer, but couldn’t do that either. A friend just told me she remembered some years ago, there was several problems with some iPhones dialing 911, I’m not sure if I heard about that one though. I’ve never heard Police cars sirens from my phone either. I hadn’t even touched the phone for at least an hour before this happened. It is the strangest thing! As far as the hey Siri, I’ve never used that, so it isn’t turned on. I’m surprised the police did not come anyway. I think they should have. My computer once accidentally dialed 911 & even though I called to say it was a mistake, the police came. They said that someone could have forced me to call & say all was fine. RE: 911 Calling Help Please.
Sieghard, This is good to know, and I will definitely keep this in mind. The phone was fine when I woke up this morning, and I had my phone just sitting on my Computer desk, and all the sudden, the Voiceover said dialing 911 emergency, and I even heard sirens from a Police car coming through the phone. So, I grabbed my phone, and tried to swipe to stop the phone from dialing, and I couldn’t hear anything else, so I pressed 3 times to turn on Voiceover, so that must be how I did that. I had to even use my Magic Jack phone to call 911 to let them know I am fine so don’t send the Police here, as they called me 3 times, but I couldn’t even answer the phone. What a mess, as that hasn’t ever happened to me before, and I hope it doesn’t happen again though! Thank you again! If you heard the clicking sound that means you had speech turned off. I would actually practice this now that you have it working again, it is quite possible that maybe you wanted to turn screen curtain on or off, that is a 3-finger triple tap, but if you only tapped twice or it only registered two 3-finger taps, then speech is turned off. As I said you can practice it and if you don't want to do it for real you can go to Voiceover Settings into the practice area and do it there. There are 3 possibilities: 1. Voiceover has been turned off 2. Voiceover is on, but you have turned off speech by accidently doing a 3-finger double tap 3. The volume is turned all the way down For scenario 1 you can try and press the side button 3 times if you have it set up to toggle Voiceover on and off or you can press and hold the side button and say "Siri turn on Voiceover". If Voiceover is already turned on it won't do any harm, Siri will simply say "Voiceover is already turned on". For scenario 2 make sure you wake up your screen by pressing the side button and to a 3-finger double tap, if Voiceover is on but speech was turned off then if you do a clean 3-finger double tap it will say "Speech On" and all will be fine. If it is the third scenario then once again making sure your phone is awake and repeatedly pressing the side button will raise volume back to where you can hear Voiceover. You can also press and hold volume up, count to 3 or 4 and by then volume should be way up. All iPhones until I think the iPhone 12 came with wired Earpods. If you still have the original box you might want to check as they might be in there. RE: 911 Calling Help Please.
HI Jannet, Have you tried a three finger double tap on the screen to see if the speech has been turned off? Or do a restart of your phone, Probably the easiest way to do that is Vol up, vol down and then power button and hold it for about 10 seconds, It should hopefully do a restart for you. Re: smart 911
Smart 911, www.smart911.com is a service in which a person enters all contact information, medical information for all family members that live in the home, emergency contact information & any other important information that a person thinks is of importance for 911 to have on file in case of an emergency or disaster. Having this information on file before an emergency or disaster lessens the questions that the 911 operator has to ask before sending help & helps the operator to be able to pass along medical information to EMS, Police & fire in case the information is not obtainable once on the scene. The information aids in faster response time & transport time to a medical facility & the person receiving appropriate medical care upon arrival to the hospital. Donna What exactly is smart 911 app? Hi Reggie, Sounds almost like something might be not working correctly on your Apple Watch 4, it is not supposed to be that sensitive, I think I heard somebody even said they wanted to demonstrate the fall detection, but just by deliverately falling it didn't go off because when you do that you don't fall as hard as you would in a real fall. I would call Apple about this and if you can reproduce this at will I'd take it to an Apple Store and get them to replace it. iPhone X: How to not accidentally call 911
9to5Mac - Friday, November 17, 2017 at 8:38 AM iPhone X: How to not accidentally call 911 Have you accidentally started to call 911 with your iPhone X? I have. Whether you’re just wondering how the feature works or want to make you don’t make an emergency call by mistake (again), follow along. The iPhone X has a lot of great new features, and along with them are new ways to navigate with gestures and other changes with the Home button-less device. One particular change that many need to adjust to are the new ways you can use the side button (previously sleep/wake button). Because of the various functions of pressing the side button and the volume buttons and the larger size of the side button, it can be easy to accidentally call 911. How to not accidentally call 911 The default setting for iPhone X and iPhone 8/8 Plus with iOS 11 has the ‘Auto Call’ for Emergency SOS turned on. This means that if you hold down the side button and either of the volume buttons and continue holding, the 911 call will be placed automatically. The way I’ve accidentally done this has been when I’m trying to lower the volume on my X, but am also unintentionally also pressing the side button as well. So, the first option is to just get used to the larger side button make sure to avoid hitting it when changing the volume. Fortunately, the default Countdown Sound that is turned on is so loud that you’ll get a couple of seconds to let go of the buttons (or tap cancel) before placing the call. The other option to avoid accidentally calling 911 is to turn off the Auto Call feature. To do this head to Settings → Emergency SOS → Auto Call. Turning this feature off still lets you make an SOS call, but after you invoke the Emergency SOS screen (by pressing and holding the side button and a volume button), you’ll have to manually slide to SOS slider to place the call. The Auto Call feature is also independent of the option to rapidly clicking the side button 5 times for a 911 call, which can be turned off in the same settings as well. You’ll also notice that once you enter the Emergency SOS screen, you’ll have to use your passcode to unlock your iPhone, another security feature that came along with iOS 11. Apple notes in a support document for the iPhone 7 and earlier, the Auto Call option isn’t available, so pressing the side button 5 times and then sliding is the way to make an SOS call. RE: 911
Hi, First, 911 can't be dialed by SIRI but I have dialed very easily on the keyboard. Also, you can use the 1touch911 app which is not free and you can also get the 1touch app for free and enter the number 911 in the 1touch settings located in the settings of your phone. Don't know if the prices are the same but, when I got them, the 1touch call and the 1touch call 2 were free. 1touch call 3 and 4 were 99 cents and the 1touch911 was $1.99 HTH Ron Danvers From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Thursday, December 12, 2013 1:52 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: 911 Hi Tom, You cannot dial 911 using SIRI, but you can definitely dial it using the keyboard. RE: 911
Hi Tom, You cannot dial 911 using SIRI, but you can definitely dial it using the keyboard. My guess is that maybe in the excitement your friend simply dialed wrong. The only other option would be for your friend to get an app like Call 911, one I checked out once and which was accessible was by a developer called Tobias Werner. 911 app?
Does anybody know a way to do this or a way to put something like this on the home screen? What I'm thinking about is this: if I were to wake up in the middle of the night and had to call 911 say because I was sick, I probably wouldn't feel much like doing a bunch of tapping to get to phone and put in the number and hit call. Even if I could speak it, maybe I wouldn't be understandable to siri or siri might do its little tick-tick-tick and do nothing or say: How can I help you? I'd like something on my home screen that I could double tap. But I wouldn't want to double tap it by accident so it would have to require me to do it a second time to confirm or else it would have to be an app I would open first and then double tap to make the call. That still would be easier than doing it from the phone app. Does anybody know a way to do this? And yes, I do know about landlines vs cell phones for 911 so that's not what i'm asking about. Also, i don't have health problems that are causing me to want this; I'm just thinking about possibilities. There is one in the US app store called 911 and it is FREE. I don't know how accessible it is as I don't have an iPhone, just an iPod. The developer's name is Zodiac Interactive LLC. RE: 911 app?
Hi Cheryl, I use an app called 1touch911 which I have on my home page right on top. I would have to double tap that icon, then I am presented with a choice to double tap 911 or the name of one of two people to contact in case of emergency. These people are entered in the settings. The app also locates your position. In case of error, it would simply open the app and you could back out without dialing 911. A person who is at risk of, let's say, serious drop in sugar level during the night could leave the phone and app open, unlock the screen and just double tap on call 911. Other than that, there is always the possibility of getting the 1touchcall which allows you to enter a number in the settings and that number gets called as soon as you double tap on the icon. This is even better in case of emergency for 911 but has the small risk of activating it by mistake. In either case, the icon is best on the home page. RE: 911 app?
I also have this Call 911 app from Tobias Werner and have posted about in the last round of discussion about the topic of emergency calling. I would agree that it is a good choice although there are a ton of such apps out there and I'm sure there are others which would work. I do like the fact that once this app is open you can simply shake the phone to get it to call. And no, somebody asked me last time, it will not call 911 if you shake the phone unless the app is open and in the foreground. In other words, if you open the app and then press the home key and the app is still in the app switcher it will not call if you shake the phone. Re: 911 app?
Hi Edward, thanks so much for those instructions. So I should upgrade to vm 5 from 3. Then install windows 7 from inside of vm and once that is done then I can install my windows screenreader from inside vmward. Just trying to make sure I have the sequence right. and that I can do all of it without sighted assistance assuming I have the windows 7 serial number.
Good idea, though still dependent on Siri getting a connection and working. - Original Message - From: Andy Baracco w...@socal.rr.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2013 1:20 PM Subject: Re: 911 app? Why not just set up 911 as a contact, and just press and hold the home btn and say Call 911? Andy -Original Message- From: Cheryl Homiak Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2013 4:19 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: 911 app? Thanks. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
