Re: Airplay tips

2013-12-02 Thread Mary Otten
No, Tracy, the AirPort Express does not need to be physically connected with
your AirPort Extreme router. It is wireless. So you just join it to the
network. And that's it. Use the Mac utility if you're on a Mac. Good luck.

Re: Airplay tips

2013-11-26 Thread Eric Caron
The Apple TV can serve the same purpose as the Air port express and may be a
better option for straight audio applications. It may depend on how you want
to use the device. But with Apple TV you can also screen share and put your
audio from all applications to the device and still keep VoiceOver on the mac.
I believe I heard a demonstration of this by David Woodbridge on his podcast
feed.

 Hi Tracy,
If you don't have an existing stereo or surroundsound system, then you
don't need an airport express. You can just buy the airplay speaker and
get it connected to your Wi-Fi network, and you should be good to go.
If, on the other hand, you have a stereo system that you like, you could
buy an airport express and connected to the input of your stereo system.
Then you would connect the airport express to your existing wi-fi network.

the express doesn’t have to be connected to the extreme.

Re: Airplay tips

2013-11-26 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Iyou have an airport extreme or another airport express, it can be used alone.
Just plug it in where you want it, and use the airport utility to connect your
new airport to an existing wireless connection.

2013-11-26 Thread Traci Duncan
Thank you for all the guidance so far.

A question on the airport express… Does it need to be physically connected to
my apple extreme, or is it a stand alone product? Our apple bay station is
upstairs, can the airport express be downstairs?

Also, how about airplay apps that may come along with speakers? I’ve read

Hi Kate,
Yes, setting up an AirPort Express using the Mac AirPort Utility is a breeze,
even for me, who is somewhat gun shy around anything to do with networking.

Re: Airplay tips

2013-11-25 Thread Mary Otten
You can use airplay to play through an airport express to your stereo. This is
on a Mac of course. There is also an app called airfoil, which you can use to
get the audio from apps to your stereo if you don't have airplay or if the app
doesn't have airplay support.
Mary
PS I have heard that there are issues with airfoil on Mavericks.

Can I use Airport Express to play sound from another computer in a different

that computer is getting real slow. It's about seven years old.

Hi Tracy,
If you don't have an existing stereo or surroundsound system, then you don't
need an airport express. You can just buy the airplay speaker and get it
connected to your Wi-Fi network, and you should be good to go.
If, on the other hand, you have a stereo system that you like, you could buy
an airport express and connected to the input of your stereo system. Then
you would connect the airport express to your existing wi-fi network.

Re: Airplay tips

I just have to add to this that setting up one of these airport devices is dead
easy with the airport utility. don’t let the set up process scare you!

We have an airport express attached to our stereo and then I have the remote
app on both i phone and i pad. It’s great to be able to stream movies and
stuff from my mac to our stereo. I am so keen on having this now that I get
miffed if something goes amiss with the set up! thankfully, that hasn’t
happened a lot since we got a new, unused express!

Re: Airplay tips

2013-11-21 Thread Aser Tolentino
I received a Klipsch G17 Air for my birthday and am thrilled with the sound
quality, very clear with adequate bass. It lists for $550 but can be had on
Amazon for $164.90 with Prime shipping. Airplay is great because you get to
keep your VoiceOver audio on your device while sending the rest to the speaker.
Make sure you're happy with your VoiceOver volume before switching AirPlay on
though, as you'll lose control of it with the volume buttons, which switch over
to controlling the system audio volume on the speakers.

Re: Airplay tips

2013-11-21 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Tracy,
If you don't have an existing stereo or surroundsound system, then you don't
need an airport express. You can just buy the airplay speaker and get it
connected to your Wi-Fi network, and you should be good to go.
If, on the other hand, you have a stereo system that you like, you could buy an
airport express and connected to the input of your stereo system. Then you
would connect the airport express to your existing wi-fi network.

Airplay tips

2013-11-15 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all,

Could you pass along your air play tips for a complete newbie? What products
do you recommend? What do I need to get started?

Can I just purchase air play speakers, or do I need air play receiver? Such as
Apple TV or Airport Express?

I have an airport extreme.

I just read about a Boston acoustics speaker on Amazon for $199; it got pretty
good reviews.
http://www.amazon.com/Boston-Acoustics-MC200Air-Wireless-Black/dp/B008KEPX1O/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1384549379&sr=1-1&keywords=air+play+speakers

We don’t need base thumping sound in this household, but we definitely want
solid quality sound.

Thank you for sharing your experience and/or pointing me to some good resources.

Traci

Oh, one other thing… How about airplay apps that come bundled with speakers?
Are they necessary? Are they accessible?
