Problem solved, was: RE: Lost speech on my Apple TV 4th gen

2020-12-15 Thread Nicola Sanders
Thanks again, Reggie, for your helpful suggestions. Having tried everything, I
called Apple Accessibility. The guy was very patient and helpful and we used
the camera on my iPhone to view the TV screen. Having tried all kinds of
things, including a software update, we ended up drawing a blank and simply
doing a factory reset of the Apple TV. He was mystified and would have loved to
find out what had caused the problem, as he hadn’t come across it before. Once
I had done the factory reset, I was able to turn VoiceOver on and all is now
working fine again – until next time!

Thanks to all for your patience and take care,

Nicky

Nicolas, have you tried shutting your Apple TV down? Take out the cord that
goes into the Apple TV not the HDMI but the other one that shuts it down wait
for a couple minutes and then put it back in. Now let it reboot. Sometimes just
a reboot on some of these devices will take care of any problem. I’m looking
through my settings right now to see if I can help any other way, but since you
can’t get to the settings, which is a problem, I’m not sure if I’m going to
find anything that doesn’t require the settings part of it. Just thought of
some thing. I wonder if somehow you got your Siri shut off in settings.
Grasping at straws here. I think that there is no other way to shut it off
except in settings or from the remote, but I’ve never had this happen. I know
that on the phone you can shut it down completely with a home button or the
side button depending on which one you have, but I think the Apple TV can just
be totally shut off either in settings or on the remote. I don’t think there’s
a mute on the Apple TV like there is on iOS. Still thinking though. I am also a
relatively new user of the Apple TV so I probably don’t know as much as some
people do.

Did you try asking Siri to turn it off and then back on? Alternatively click
the button with the ring around it 3 times. If nothing happens click it 3 times
again and see if voice comes back. None of this works call apple accessibility.

Lost speech on my Apple TV 4th gen

2020-12-14 Thread Nicola Sanders
Hi all,

I turned my Apple TV on, having not used it for a few weeks, and I have no
speech at all. I'm fairly sure VoiceOver itself is running, judging by the
sounds, but without speech I can't go into the settings and sort it out.
I've tried asking Siri to turn speech off and then turn speech on, but to no
avail so far.

Does anyone have any tips for solving this problem without sighted
assistance, or will I have to do a factory reset?

Many thanks in advance,

Nicky

Bluetooth keyboard problems with Apple TV 4th gen HD

2020-04-26 Thread 'Gary Robinson' via VIPhone

Hi all,

I  seem to have a strange problem with my Apple TV when using a
Bluetooth keyboard.

It is the same for both my Logitech K780 and my Apple wireless keyboard
so my suspicion is that it is the Apple TV that is at fault.

Basically I  can type in letters, numbers symbols and use the escape and
enter keys but the tab and cursor keys just don't work at all.

Quicknav doesn't work and I can't even tab between fields.

The Apple TV is on the latest software and the problem has been
happening for a while. I just put up with it and used the horrible
remote control that comes with the TV but I thought I would see if
anyone else had come across this problem before I bite the bullet and
reset the TV back to factory defaults and restart with a clean build.

Any suggestions welcome.

Gary

Re: turning on voiceOver on apple tv 4th gen?

2017-04-23 Thread MamaPeach
It has been a while, but I think you can triple tap the Menu button to activate
VoiceOver on the Apple TV 4th Gen. The menu button will be the top button on
the left hand side of the remote. The buttons on the remote are
Top left: Menu
Middle Left: Siri
Bottom Left: Play/Pause
Top Right: Home
Then the long button on the right is volume Up/Volume Down
If I provided incorrect information, someone please make any corrections.

Re: apple tv 4th gen apps accessibility going down hill

2017-04-01 Thread Brian Fischler
I agree as I had the Apple 3rd Gen and bought the 4th Gen, and consider the
Apple TV 4th Gen the worst investment I have ever made. I believe with the
Apple TV 3rd Gen that Apple controlled the Apps and made them VO accessible,
now with the 4th Gen Apple TV the individual developers control their apps and
most of them are not accessible. Absolutely pathetic the direction of the 4th
Gen Apple TV is headed.

An interesting suggestion and one Apple of course could well afford. It would
be nice if something like this could be brought directly to the attention of
Tim Cook, but I am doubtful that posting this via social media or in an email
to Apple Accessibility will ever make it up the chain. Of course we have to
continue to lobby for our needs and hope that the overall commitment Apple has
towards accessibility in time results in a net gain and not a net loss.

Hello Jim,

Unfortunately, I can confirm your findings especially with the CBS News app and
many, many others.

All we can do is provide feedback and make our voices heard on social media and
in the App Store.

A while ago I suggested to Apple that they develop some kind of an incentive in
order to compel developers to make their apps VoiceOver accessible. For
example, if a developer makes its app accessible, then apple would allow it to
keep 72% of its revenue instead of 70%.

Hi, is it just me?
It seems like accessability is going down hill. I am finding more and more apps
harder to use with simple voiceover gestures and some apps not accessible at
all yet still others you can some what use, but only part of it.

Look at the abc app for example. You can find some things, but to try and find
a show you only hear the number of the item voice over will not read the shows.
I sent in feedback, but heard nothing back.

I find myself just not using my apple tv that much any more. I used to watch a
lot of shows that I mis during the week, now I just forget about them.

So to try and get my interest back in to this device what apps are you all
using? I like watching movies, news, weather, mist tv shows and games might be
fun. I also would like to have all the local networks such as abc, cbs, fox,
nbc and there is more. I know there is the tv app, but my cable provider is on
the list of providers, but you can't access the main list of them since mine is
not the top few apple shows I'm stuck.

Maybe it is me?

Thans for any thoughts.

RE: apple tv 4th gen apps accessibility going down hill

2017-03-25 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,
I was very disappointed with many of the apps I have tried lately. I purchased
an Apple TV 4 even though my third gen worked fine because I wanted access to
the thousands of channels instead of the 20 or 30 that were available on the
third gen. Ok apps as they call them not channels. Anyway, it seems that every
time I find an app I really want such as Dove which allegedly has hundreds of
hours of family programming. It is not the least bit accessible. As in nothing
was labeled to work with voiceover.
I have become accustomed to not being able to play games since losing my vision
several years ago and not playing graphically intensive games on a PlayStation
4 or other console device. But when I try a news app or a network app and it
simply does not allow any voiceover control at all I get very frustrated.

apps harder to use with simple voiceover gestures and some apps not
accessible at all yet still others you can some what use, but only part of
it.

Look at the abc app for example. You can find some things, but to try and
find a show you only hear the number of the item voice over will not read
the shows. I sent in feedback, but heard nothing back.

I find myself just not using my apple tv that much any more. I used to watch
a lot of shows that I mis during the week, now I just forget about them.

So to try and get my interest back in to this device what apps are you all
using? I like watching movies, news, weather, mist tv shows and games might
be fun. I also would like to have all the local networks such as abc, cbs,
fox, nbc and there is more. I know there is the tv app, but my cable
provider is on the list of providers, but you can't access the main list of
them since mine is not the top few apple shows I'm stuck.

Maybe it is me?

Thans for any thoughts.

Hi Wayne,

And as far as recording is concerned that is a no. Most content is on demand so

RE: Apple TV 4th Gen questions

2016-04-25 Thread Merv Keck
They are called apps but they can either be considered channels or apps
depending on how you look at it. For example currently there are about 900
available apps for the Apple TV fourth Generation ranging from Netflix and Hulu
to games and podcast applications, and even a speedtest application, to common
channel apps such as CVS and freeform formerly ABC Family. Some of these
channel apps require that you have the same channel on your cable subscription
such as Disney channels. Others do not. Some will allow you limited access to
programing if you do not have the corresponding channel on your cable
subscription but will not allow you to have access to the full amount of
programing options. ESPN is a good example of that. You get a few clips and a
lot of annoying ads unless you validate your cable provider on the Apple TV.
Once that is done you have access to at least 7 channels of ESPN plus bonus
material free for the price of downloading the channel from the app store for
free.
Hope that helps'

Re: Hulu Update For Apple TV 4th Gen

2015-12-21 Thread Lisa Belville
The last version I have is 4.50 released on August 26. This is the one
where they claimed to fix VO issues. The latest one in the app store is
4.71 and was released on December 16. I stopped upgrading after the 4.50
update because I really couldn't tell any difference in VO functionality.
Nothing is as good as it was back in 2014.

I stand corrected. The iPhone app is excruciatingly painful to navigate with
the latest update. It was fine a few updates ago. Ugh. At least it works on
the apple TV now, so I don’t have to use the phone any more.

Re: Hulu Update For Apple TV 4th Gen

2015-12-21 Thread MamaPeach
I haven't even looked, but what version is Hulu up to on IOS? I am using
version 4.6.5 and because the VoiceOver accessibility is so great, I won't
update that particular app until I have no other choice. I am running this
version on IOS 9.2

Re: Apple TV 4th Gen

2015-12-15 Thread Ann Smith
I have a four week old Apple TV fourth generation. It is very much worth money.
If you don't do a lot of gaming, blue 32 GB is your best bet that's what I have.
I can't give the Mac Mall I know if I praises about their customer service and
how quickly they do shipping and handling. I wore this device on November 10,
and guess what showed up the next day? They ship out of Memphis by the way.
You can order online or order by phone like I did. I'd be glad to give out the
phone number if you need it. As far as shipping and handling, they only charge
me $10.59. That's a just about unheard of for overnight shipping.
Unless you're high partial, you will need a very minimum of cited assistance.
My television is 720 P, and the device is 1080 P. So, you'll need to go into
the Apple TV settings and calibrate your
TV to your TV's correct number of pixels. It's pretty easy to do. You would
need site to be able to see the little apple and then you get the OK sign. Hope
I can help somebody sorry about the typos

2015-11-17 Thread Billy Maynard
hi,

I just had a question about accessability. didn't apple create a code enjen or
code script or bundle or something that m makes building accessability in
fairly simple? Could we just point his out to developers? I remember
listening to a podcast from cool blind tek about apple accessability and a
script and how easy it was to make something inaccessable accessable.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I am not a developer.

Well, I hope you are right. It is discouraging when companies like Hulu,
which of been around and which know about accessibility, because they have been
badgered about it, still don't get it right. It just doesn't seem to bode well.
But I would like to be wrong, wrong, wrong.

2015-11-17 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

Do you know if they’re working on audio description, too?

I sent them a note, and they said something like, “It’s very complicated.” When
I replied to that that they may be able to have a button adjacent to the Play
episode button labeled as Play audio described episode which would be dimmed
if an AD episode was not available, or to have a partitioned website from the
home screen listing audio described content, they replied they’d pass those
ideas along to the engineers.

Apple TV 4th Gen, no voice over in Hulu

2015-11-16 Thread Tom Rash
Got the Apple TV 4th Gen. Works great. How ever, when going into Hulu,
Voice over does not work. Is this a probelm others are experiencing? Or is
it a Hulu update problem? or Apple? Thanks.

2015-11-16 Thread Ann Smith
Good morning, I've had nothing but trouble with Hulu plus since 2013. Which is
really unfortunate, because I am like two or three seasons behind on my law and
order SV you frown

RE: Apple TV 4th Gen, no voice over in Hulu

2015-11-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mary,

Yes, apps may have to be made accessible with TVOS now just as they have to be
made accessible with iOS, but just because some developers may not have done so
or maybe have not done so yet because it’s all new to me still means I love the
new apple TV because it can do so much more than the old one. When everything
is said and done there will still be a ton more apps many of which will be
accessible and as the popularity of the Apple TV grows so will awareness about
accessibility.

But even now I totally love that when I watch a movie I can simply push the
SIRI button and say “What did he say” or “Rewind 3 minutes”, searching for
movies with SIRI works great and I just think this is only the start.

I have already heard how this apple TV is more like a Beta, that it’s
unfinished and surely Apple could have done better given how long it’s been
since they have last updated the Apple TV. I can sort of agree with this, but
playing devil’s advocate or maybe I should say “Apple’s advocate” one could
also argue that while this is the next generation Apple TV it is very much
almost a new device. The hardware is new, the remote is new and the platform
(TVOS) is also totally new. App developers only had a few months to come up
with apps and Apple is still hammering out deals with all the major networks
and content providers for the actual TV offering. I’m certainly willing to cut
them some slack and give them a year or so to see what they come up with. I
guess I choose to see it from the “glass half full” perspective rather than the
“glass half empty” perspective.

As for accessibility, all of us individually as well as whatever organisations
represent us as a group will just have to continue to lobby for accessibility
and make developers aware of the fact that their app may not be accessible. In
the case of a subscription based service like Hulu one can always cancel their
subscription aeven if you do so temporarily and make sure to explain when you
call in to cancel that they loose y our business because of a lack of
accessibility.

Best regards,

Sieghard

I wonder if this is going to be an ever-growing problem with the new model of
access in Apple TV four. With the older version, you had built in
accessibility, because the basic framework was accessible. You had this grid
of channels. And you could navigate that because it was going to be accessible.
Now with these separate apps, companies are once again free to blow us off.
Very sad.
Mary
