RE: BARD Books And The iOS Files App

2020-08-11 Thread Edward Przybylek
Hi all,

There seems to be some confusion about the adapters we’re talking about. There
are two adapters that connect to a lightning port. One adapter simply has a
single slot for use with an SD card. The other adapter has a standard USB port
to which you can connect flash drives, external USB drives, etc. Such devices
have a much higher power requirement so, as well as the USB port, it has a port
for a lightning cable which is connected to a power source. I suppose you
could pug a USB flash card reader into the USB port and then be able to read a
variety of flash cards. I don’t know if you would need an external power
source to do this but someone should give it a try and let us know the results.
 Stay healthy all of you.

Take care,

Ed Przybylek

I have what I think is the same adapter; but with my iPhone SE 2020 I have to
plug in the power cable. So, which phone do you have?
Thanks,

Hi,
I am interested in knowing more about the adapter you use to move files from
the iPhone or iPad to the computer using the files app and back.
What adapter can you use for that, and is it possible to use the regular USB
cable with lightning connecter to transfer files from an SD card?
I currently have a USB adapter hub/memory card reader that has 3 different
memory card slots and 3 USB ports and it includes an SD card slot.

There isn't one especially if you're still using the first gen stream.
Another option for listening to bard books is always the NLS player
which I'm assuming you have. The bard mobile app is also great.

To use the adapter you have to be plugged into power, so if you were

Stick to the computer or just listen on the BARD app.

Edward,

I'm afraid you're out of luck. The only method I know of to download BARD books
with an iOS device is with the BARD Mobile app. This download places those
downloaded books into BARD Mobile available for reading with that app. No
method is provided for transferring downloaded content to another device or an
SD card for reading on another device. I tried going to the BARD site at
https://nlsbard.loc.gov/login on my iPhone using the Firefox app but after
logging in and searching for a book, no download option was offered. All I
could do was add it to my wish list.

Which adapter is that that requires no power?

And, have you tried using Safari to go to the NLS BARD site and downloading a
book?
You may even be able to save it directly to the SD card with that adapter.
If it downloads as a zip file, you may have to unzip it into its own folder on
the SD card, but I think that can be done with Safari as well.
I'd really like to know which phone and which adapter you are using. The one I
bought has to be plugged into power unless you are using an iPad.

Hi all,

Richard, you said that the flash drive adapter needs to be plugged in in order
to use it with the Files app. There is another adapter that makes it possible
to use an SD card with the Files app. This adapter requires no external power
source. I've moved .mp3 files from my iPhone to the SD card which I then
inserted into my Victor Stream where they played with no problem. This was all
done without using a computer. I was hoping to find a way of doing the same
thing with BARD books. It's looking more and more like this might not be
possible. Thanks.

In case this hasn't been mentioned, you probably could try to download to the
Files app through Safari and then connect an adapter to the iPhone to copy to a
flash drive, then put that in your Victor, but that will be far slower and more
cumbersome than using a computer.
To use the adapter you have to be plugged into power, so if you were thinking
there might be a way for doing this on the road, or whatever, there isn't.

Stick to the computer or just listen on the BARD app.

Edward, I'd highly recommend you use bard express. This program on
the computer will make it very easy to get bard books copied to an SD
card to your computer.

Hi,

Using a computer to move BARD books is the way I've done it since I've had a
BARD subscription. I'd like to be able to do the same thing using an
iDevice if it's possible. Thanks.

I wouldn't do that, it would be easier to just use the computer to get
your books to an SD card. I don't think the bard books would show up
in the files app.

RE: BARD Books And The iOS Files App

2020-08-09 Thread Edward Przybylek
Hi,

Using a computer to move BARD books is the way I've done it since I've had a
BARD subscription. I'd like to be able to do the same thing using an iDevice
if it's possible. Thanks.

I wouldn't do that, it would be easier to just use the computer to get
your books to an SD card. I don't think the bard books would show up
in the files app.

BARD Books And The iOS Files App

2020-08-09 Thread Edward Przybylek
Hi all,

Is it possible to have books I've downloaded to the BARD app to be listed in
the iOS Files app? I'd like to be able to copy books from the BARD app to a
flash card using the Files app. The flash card could then be used in my
original version Victor Stream Reader. As always, any help is greatly
appreciated.

Take care,

Ed Przybylek
