When you go to "Settings->Battery->Battery Health" what does the phone say
"Maximum Capacity" is? And the next major line down where it says "Peak
Performance Capability" ..the small text underneath that heading should say
"Your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance"

If the maximum is under 70% and/or the the peak performance is marked as
anything other than normal, I suggest you visit with your Apple/Phone
supplier rep.

RE: Battery usage.

2019-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, not really, not sure why it continues to say "charging" all iPhones I
have had which were iPhone 4, 4S, 5S, 6S Plus and now iPhone 8 go to "on AC
power" after they are plugged in for a while.
However, I don't think it's a big deal and if it happened to my iPhone I
probably wouldn't loose to much sleep over it.
I guess you could do a complete reset and set up as a new device and see if
that helps, but that seems an awful lot of trouble to go through for such a
minor issue which doesn't really affect performance.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard, so from the last two nights I completely drain the battery to 0%
and put on The charging in the night and in the morning when I see it’s still
showing hundred percent charging Year it is worth mentioning that from the last
two nights I put it on charging around eight hours that is by switching it off.
 Any more suggestions?

While this does recalibrate the battery "state of charge" computation, it
really isn't very good for the battery.
Under settings->battery->battery health you can see if the phone has
detected an issue (my 1+ old iPhoneX only has 95% now). Recalibration
won't make the battery healthier.

RE: Battery usage.

2019-01-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Well, only suggestion I have would be to recalibrate your battery as follows:

1. Let the battery run down completely, e.g. use the phone until the phone
shuts down when the battery hits 0%. Don't charge it when it's still at 5% or
even 1%, let it die.
2. Plug in the phone and let it charge all the way. Ideally do this overnight
and it is even better if after the phone powers up (it will do this when you
plug in the cable) if you power it off again so it charges with the phone
turned off.
3. Unplug it from power in the morning and use it again until the battery dies
and the phone shuts off.
4. Repeat step 2 and again charge it overnight with the phone turned off.

After that see if when you charge it up to 100% and leave it connected if it
will then say 100% on AC Power.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: Battery usage.

2019-01-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

USB port of a computer?
What shape is your battery in, e.g. have you looked at your battery health?

RE: Battery usage.

2019-01-15 Thread Carolyn Arnold
I haven't tried Apple Accessibilities, but have my phone back in sync - Control
Center got the volume right. Last night before going to bed, 95 percent, this
morning 95 percent. I couldn't believe it didn't lose anything, wondered if I
misremembered the percent from the night before. I wonder if the night I lost
so much if something was left on in Ap Switcher? That is my guess.

Best regards,

Carolyn

This would be a good time to call Apple Accessibility.
But, location services are under Privacy, but you want Navigation apps to use
your location or they won't know where you are.

The issue likely isn't something left open, but a process running in the
background.

Apple Accessibility, I hope, could walk you through the various possible
settings.

Re: Battery usage.

2019-01-13 Thread Marie N.
I leave location services on all the time and it does not drain my battery.
Having that on and having a GPS app on are two different things.
How often do you charge the phone? I charge mine every night just to make
sure it is good all day and it is recommended to never let the battery drop
below 20% if possible.

Not long ago, my battery went way down overnight; it did the same last night. I
can't figure out why. Battery says I have normal usage, and that the battery is
still operating from
100 percent, which, of course, I knew.

Re: Battery Usage

2017-01-31 Thread TaraPrakash
Bad signals will consume more battery no matter whether your cell data is on or
off. You may try to put a Sim card from Verizon for one day and see if the
battery runs for a longer time. Apart from bad signals phone calls will be the
worst consumers of battery. Keep the Low Power Mode on all the time maybe that
will save you a lot of battery.

I've had the exact opposite experience.
I'd say they have the best customer service around.
I hope someone on the list can help you.

I have done that already. An I absolutely refused to call Apple
accessibility. They have never once been able to help me solve a
problem; in fact, Apple has some of the worst customer support I've
ever experienced. I also don't have time to go into an Apple store.

I have called them four or five times with issues. Each time I was
forced to spend over two hours on the phone, and none of the times
resulted in the problem being solved. I have more luck emailing this
list.

I probably have not called Apple Accessibility in a good nine months or so, but
each time I did they were very committed to solving my problem, and each time

Re: Battery Usage

2017-01-31 Thread Richard Turner

It sounds like it is time to call Apple Accessibility or go into an Apple Store
and see if they can figure out what is happening.
You could also search the web for tips to save battery life and go through all
the settings to see if something is running in the background that you don't
want.

24 hours, it says that almost 20% of my battery is being used by
my
mail app even though I have fetch and notifications for it
turned off;
it also says that the app has only been on in the background for
one
minute. Any idea what's going on?

Re: Battery Usage

2017-01-31 Thread kelby carlson
So I'm checking my battery usage stats now, and it looks like I'm
getting a lot of drain from no cell coverage even when I have data
turned off. What's going on?

Speaking of battery drainage, some years ago when the newest phones came out
they were posting about how the battery might last a
couple days depending on what applications you're using. So today I was out and
for about three hours I had location services on
cellular data on and I had maps open. So the battery drains almost down to
nothing in that period time which I thought was a little
excessive. I had no other applications open.
Only getting three or four hours of battery life when using a program so
essential for many doesn't seem so great to me. Is this the
type of battery drain other people are getting when they're using maps when
they're driving a car with somebody and they have a
location tracking on? I left the house with a fully charged phone.
I'm one of those who some of you laugh at that micromanages my phone a lot! I
rarely have anything open in the app switcher. I
usually go to two or three applications at a time him and not even for very
long. I also rather obsessively rarely have cellular
data on and I almost never have location tracking on except when I want to
check whether or I'm driving somewhere in the car with
somebody.

The current version is 10.2.1, which fixed some VoiceOver issues.
At this point, you may want to wait for 10.3 to come out.

Re: Battery Usage

2017-01-30 Thread Richard Turner

GPS is one of the heaviest battery draining service around and Apple Maps seems
to drain it more than others.
I would say getting 3 to 4 hours of continuous use with Maps is going to be
pretty standard. If I'm using GPS in a car, I plug the phone into the car to
keep it charged.
IF the car doesn't have a usb port, but has a cigarette lighter, you can get an
adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter that has a usb port so you can
keep the phone charged when traveling.
HTH,
Richard

what applications you're using. So today I was out and for about three hours I
had location services on cellular data on and I had maps open. So the battery
drains almost down to nothing in that period time which I thought was a little
excessive. I had no other applications open.
Only getting three or four hours of battery life when using a program so
essential for many doesn't seem so great to me. Is this the type of battery
drain other people are getting when they're using maps when they're driving a
car with somebody and they have a location tracking on? I left the house with a
fully charged phone.
I'm one of those who some of you laugh at that micromanages my phone a lot! I
rarely have anything open in the app switcher. I usually go to two or three
applications at a time him and not even for very long. I also rather
obsessively rarely have cellular data on and I almost never have location
tracking on except when I want to check whether or I'm driving somewhere in the
car with somebody.

RE: Battery usage and level indicator

2015-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kimberly,

Just recalibrate your battery by fully discharging it and that is to the point
where the iPhone turns off because the battery totally runs out. Then charge it
overnight and repeat once more, i.e. use it again and let it fully discharge.
You can speed this up by doing some battery intensive task like streaming video
or turning on a GPS app. After the second shut-off once again charge it up
fully, then do what you normally do, i.e. run it down to 20% or so and charge
it and see if this fixes your issue. There is no need to prevent yourself from
getting phone calls by putting the phone into airplane mode to charge, I doubt
it would do so much faster than if it is just sitting there with the screen
locked.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Battery usage and level indicator

Hi,

Ever since yesterday something weird is going on with my battery level
indicator. When I plug in the phone, the indicator says charging but the
percentage shown either increases very slowly or not at all. I'm not sure if
there is a problem with my battery or the indicator.

I have done all the usual stuff like empty the app switcher, reboot the phone,
reset network settings but nothing has corrected the issue. Previously my phone
would charge really fast when placed in airplane mode, but now even airplane
isn't doing the trick.

When I look under battery in settings, I see a standby time of 25 hours and a
usage of 22 hours which seems pretty normal.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Anything I can do to try and fix the
problem short of going to the Apple Store?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It looks like my charger is the problem. I tried charging from my anchor

Hello!
Few months ago similar thing happened to me with my old 4S. The
difference is I didn't get the message 'Charging' with acompanying
sound but the battery maintained at some percentage and would
actually charge till about 50%.
I tried everything but complete restoring to factory settings and it
didn't help. So, I took it to the service shop and they said that
thunderbolt connector is dead. They replaced it and now it works
well.

Google app and battery usage

2015-02-11 Thread Andrea Roveretto

Hello all!
Talking of the google app, I am trying to use it on a iphone 5s
I think that its using quite some battery power if I leave it in the
switcher... do you usually close it completely after using it?
I suppose th eproblem is in the use of the gps for tracking purposes
that google now does.

Actually, the flaw is in thinking that shallow charging is bad for the battery.
This thinking is true for Ni-CAD batteries, but it is completely false for
LI-Polymer batteries.

Battery usage. was, iOS7.0.6

2014-02-22 Thread Neal Ewers
Hi, the flaw here in letting the iDevice run down to a certain percent is
that if you connect it to your computer and use it with iTunes or anything
else like removing photos, it will charge as soon as it is connected. I have
recently been using my iQ5 microphone a lot and I have to get the files off
of the unit through iTunes. I note that my battery charge is nearly always
between 90 and 100%. I do wish there was a way on these and other devices to
opt to not have it charge when connected to the computer.

Thank you all for the advice. My iPad is now updating as I speak. It was on
36% before I plugged it in.

Re: Battery usage with Audible app.

2013-09-14 Thread Mary Otten
I haven't noticed any problem with the audible app and battery drain. It is
certainly much better than iBooks or the Kindle app, because you can lock the
screen and still play audible.

RE: Battery usage with Audible app.

2013-09-14 Thread Wayne gmail
Actually the Navigon app allows you to store the maps on the phone which is
what I do. You can choose whether or not to update the maps and which ones
to update as well. Generally though it is a battery drainer even with the
onboard maps.

Wayne

Your estimate for stand alone GPS devices 2 to 4 hours is way off the mark.
I personally own3 stand alone units and 2 of them deliver 8 hours of
continuous use and one with an extra long life battery can deliver even
longer usage time. Stand alone GPS systems for the blind update their maps
every few years. I have a GPS app on my iPhone as well. However, when your
using a GPS where the maps are not resident on the device, it's an accident
waiting to happen. Get into an area where there is no cell signal and there
goes your GPS. With a stand alone GPS for the blind, you won't have that
problem. I also understand that people are all different and just because I
can is a common thing today. So, I choose to have both at hand.

I think it is not so much about the app itself, but its about how you use
it. One would have thought, apps like audible podcast, music and that will
take up the same amount of battery. Then, you have other apps, e.g. GPS apps

that could run in the background, or use location services, that could also
take up the reasonable amount of battery as well.
Yes, indeed, like Christopher said, one can also use different device for
different task. That could help saving your battery. However, if you do
that, what is the need for having an iPhone or iPad? you might just get an
EReader, daisy player, cheap phone that able you to phone and text, stand
alone gps unit, etc.
Bare in mind though, average stand alone gps unit could last you somewhare
around 2 to 4 hours, Average low cost phone could have around 1 or 2 weeks
stand by time, a daisy player could last you about 10 to 16 hours battery
per charge, and well, you might get lots more hours from a EReader.
At the end of the day, you will still having battery issue regardless of
what device you use. Its all about how you use it.
The way i preserve my battery is by making sure i close all the unnecesarry
apps and remove them from the app switcher and having my screen brightness
to 0%
Also, if my battery gets rediculously low, like below 10% for example, i
usually have my device on fly mode. Although, to be honest, i'm not sure if

fly mode does help to preserve some battery.

I mainly use it in waiting rooms and while waiting for a cab but I don't

Battery usage with Audible app.

2013-09-13 Thread Chuck Dean

Hi all who use audible .com,
There has been some concern about battery usage with the upcoming Bart app. I
was curious, how does the audible app do with battery life?
I would think it may be comparable to the NLS app.
