The tone volume is very low when you wait for the next available volunteer, however you can raise it with the volume up button. The volume is back to normal once the call is connected. HTH. I used Be My Eyes for a couple calls earlier this week, I believe it was Wednesday, and it was fine. The tones were low but I could hear them on my 8 Plus.
