RE: A Blindsquare question about constant distance travelled announcements

2016-10-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Thanks, Richard, I will try this. If this is what causes it they should
desensitise the shake gesture, I walk very smoothly and have a pretty light
step so if shake is triggered by this it’s waytoo sensitive.

Check your shake settings. In the Other, settings, I think you want shake to
read pedometer off. Especially when walking.

Subject: A Blindsquare question about constant distance travelled announcements

Hi,

I had uninstalled Blindsquare some time ago and as I am in Calgary right now
and use GPS more frequently I thought I put it back and see how it is. Today I
was at an Ikea in the far Southeast of the city which is a fairly industrial
zone and I started it up just to let it tell me my streets and cross streets.
When I used the headset remote to stop it at “Location” it didn’t actually give
me my location/address and then it told me that I had travelled 95 metres in 1
minute and consequently kept telling me every couple of seconds that I now had
travelled 100 metres in 1 minute, then 105 metres, then 110 metres etc. I seem
to remember that I had this issue before and it was one of the reasons why I
uninstalled it. It seems when it starts telling me the distance walked it just
won’t stop and it’s extremely annoying. Do any of you Blindsquare experts have
any suggestions how I can stop it doing this? Unfortunately it also seems
Calgary Transit is not one of the places where transit information is available
since I have been at many a bus stop and Blindsquare never seems to know this.
I may be blind and a german square head, but Blindsquare and I just don’t seem
to get along *smile*.

Incidently I asked SIRI “What is my current location” after which SIRI usually
replies with an approximate address. This time SIRI told me that I was in
Calgary, Alberta, which of course was not news to me yet it was of course of
little help. I then started the Seeing Eye app and it immediately told me the
address where I was and announced the street and upcoming cross street.

Sieghard

RE: BlindSquare Question

Thanks Sieghard for your response.

I was thinking about the Garmin Glo or using my existing BTA+ GPS receiver
coupled with RoqyBT4 with jalebreak.

Again, thanks much.

Hi Jim,

Which external GPS receiver do you have? There are only about 4 of them
which work with the iPhone:

the Bad Elf which comes either in a 30-PIN version or a Bluetooth version,
approx.. $100 to $150.

One I had never heard about before, the "Emprum UltiMate GPS Receiver", $105
on Amazon.com

The Dual X150 Bluetooth GPS Receiver, $90 at GPSCentral.com

the Garmin Glo, $100 at GPSCentral.com
Garmin, the world's leading provider of GPS equipment, announced their
latest shot in the GPS wars. The all-new Garmin GLO is a small gray box that
serves as a GPS accessible via a Bluetooth-enabled iPhone or iPad (okay,
Android devices, too). This $99 device enables pilots and drivers to keep
track of their position without the hassle of adding another screen. The GLO
is Apple approved to work with its products.

Interestingly, the GLO uses not only GPS satellites but also the Russian
version of GPS called GLONASS - an additional 24 location beacons. This
provides rapid location, 20% faster than competing devices. Position updates
10 times per second seems excessive but will certainly be popular for
performance junkies. Overall, the additional satellite coverage means more
robust positioning.

The GLO's internal battery lasts for 12 hours, or it can run off ship power
(cable included in the aviation bundle).

In my opinion the Garmin GLO sounds like it would be one of the better ones
to try and it would be my first choice if I wanted an external GPS receiver.

Sieghard

It does not appear that Blindsquare recognizes an external GPS receiver.
Can anyone varify this as being either true or false please?

Hi there. In addition to the other messages giving the names
of some Apple approved GPS receivers, there is a way you can
get your typical GPS receiver to be seen by the iPhone. That
is of course if you jailbreak. When you do this, there is a
Bluetooth stack which you can install which enables the
iPhone to recognize just about any other Bluetooth device.
This includes GPS receivers which might only cost you 40 or
$50. I am only passing along this information. Even though
my phone is jailbroken I have not tried pairing it with
atypical GPS receiver.

Re: BlindSquare Question

2013-03-06 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi there. In addition to the other messages giving the names of some Apple
approved GPS receivers, there is a way you can get your typical GPS receiver to
be seen by the iPhone. That is of course if you jailbreak. When you do this,
there is a Bluetooth stack which you can install which enables the iPhone to
recognize just about any other Bluetooth device. This includes GPS receivers
which might only cost you 40 or $50. I am only passing along this information.
Even though my phone is jailbroken I have not tried pairing it with atypical
GPS receiver.

Any GPS app will only recognise what is recognised by iOS. There are only a
couple GPS receivers which iOS recognises.

RE: BlindSquare Question

2013-03-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Folks:

It does not appear that Blindsquare recognizes an external GPS
receiver. Can anyone varify this as being either true or false please?

Thanks all over the place.
