RE: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

2016-03-23 Thread Cristóbal
I turned off the caller ID and voice activation as I found those features to
either be distracting or too flakey to rely on. The caller ID thing I felt was
unnecessary since voiceover already announced whose calling. Personal
preference though I guess.
The mute button is super handy.

You don't need it but it has some fun features such as the find my Edge. It
also will give you a more accurate count as to how much time is remaining on
your charge although I charge it on a regular schedule anyway. It pairs really
easy so setup is a snap. The hub does have a feature that will tell you what
each button does although just pushing each button will do the same thing.
I routinely pair mine with my iPhone 6S+, my I.D. Mate Quest barcode reader,
and two laptops. Not at the same time but I'm just saying it pairs with a
number of different devices around the house.

If you are wearing the ear piece it is the one big button that is facing out
away from your head. If you press it long enough and you are not on a call it
will say pairing.

When you refer to the large button at the end of the ear piece, are you
talking about the two buttons on the fat part of the device or the one button
on the stem of the earpiece?

Hi,
When sound switches from the Edge to your phone if you press the large button
on the end of the ear piece and hold it for a second you will hear a beep and
the sound will pop back in to the Edge. For me this started occurring with IOS
9.1 and I can usually route it back to the edge without touching the phone.
Hope that helps.

I have had the Edge for about 6 months and basically I like it. I use the loop
and the ear hook, though since it does not feel really secure without them. If
it falls out while you are away from home that is $95 down the
drain and I am not willing to take that chance. To set the Edge in the
portable charger case you need to twist the loop so it is at the top and remove
the hook. For this reason, I rarely use that charger. I just use a regular
micro USB standard charger cord.
I do have a lot of trouble with the 6S not keeping all sound routed through the
headset. Sometimes when I tap it to answer a call the call goes to the phone
that is in my pocket and I have to dig it out. Siri and some VO functions
switch back and forth from the phone speaker to the Edge with no rhyme or
reason. I have the routing set to automatic. It did not switch the sound back
and forth between the earpiece and the phone for no reason on my old iPhone 5
running 8.something. I often click the Edge off when using dictation since it
works much better talking into the phone.
So I like it, but it worked much better on my old phone.
Any advice welcome.

Thanks for any details. I’d really love to find a great ear peace

So, does the edge just sit in your ear canal like an ear bud. I’m trying to
imagine it. What prevents it from falling out. I can’t use ear buds because
they constantly pop out or hurt my ears.

Thanks for any details. I’d really love to find a great ear peace

Re: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

2016-03-23 Thread Sherrie
I have had the Edge for about 6 months and basically I like it. I use the
loop and the ear hook, though since it does not feel really secure without
them. If it falls out while you are away from home that is $95 down the
drain and I am not willing to take that chance. To set the Edge in the
portable charger case you need to twist the loop so it is at the top and
remove the hook. For this reason, I rarely use that charger. I just use a
regular micro USB standard charger cord.
I do have a lot of trouble with the 6S not keeping all sound routed through
the headset. Sometimes when I tap it to answer a call the call goes to the
phone that is in my pocket and I have to dig it out. Siri and some VO
functions switch back and forth from the phone speaker to the Edge with no
rhyme or reason. I have the routing set to automatic. It did not switch the
sound back and forth between the earpiece and the phone for no reason on my
old iPhone 5 running 8.something. I often click the Edge off when using
dictation since it works much better talking into the phone.

So I like it, but it worked much better on my old phone.
Any advice welcome.
Sherrie

There is a loop that you can use that will hold it in your ear but then it
will not fit properly into the charging case. I don't know how it just stays
in my ear and honestly it took some getting accustomed to the fear of it not
just falling out while in the store. It is like an ear bud with a little
black cylinder attached to it. How it just hangs there I don't know but I
have only ever lost it out of my ear once. It fell into my shopping cart and
I heard it land in the cart.

RE: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

2016-03-21 Thread Merv Keck
Voiceover comes through my Edge just fine. I can also pair my edge with my
windows 10 Lenovo and it works great with that as well. However, on topic, the
edge is a very good option with voiceover. I also like the hands free feature.
I teach and I often get calls that I can't ignore. I like to say "answer" and
or "ignore" and just continue doing what I am doing.

I would also like to ask if the Edge can be used to listen to VoiceOver even
when not on a phone call? I have an old Motorola single ear headset but if you
are not on a phone call VoiceOver continues to come through the iPhone speaker.

RE: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

2016-03-21 Thread Merv Keck
I have used both and it is a personal preference. I prefer the Edge very much
over the Legend. However, many people prefer the Legend over the Edge.
Especially now that the Legend has a charger case that can be purchased along
with it.
The edge is a bit less accessible because the charging case has lights that you
swipe across to initiate charging when you are out and about. If you do not
have light perception and you do not swipe the charging case correctly you may
find that instead of boosting the Edge back to six hours you are still at two
hours. One you get on to correctly using the charging case it is a pretty nice
ear piece. I easily get my eighteen hours between plugging the case in to
charge it.I
Also like how much smaller and lighter the Edge is than the Legend. It just
sort of sits in your ear. Of course that is one of the negative features for
many. The Legend is larger and sits on top of the ear and you know it is there.
The edge is so small and light you can literally forget it is in your ear. I
keep thinking one day I am going to jump in the shower wearing it because I
just forgot it was there. Although one time I did wash and dry my Edge in the
laundry and it is still working fine.
I know someone who just bought a new Legend this weekend and I helped the
individual pair it and learn how to use it. I had forgotten how flexible they
were. This individual had broken their last Legend two days after they received
it because they bent it the wrong way. You simply cannot do that with the Edge.
However, if you drop it be prepared to look for it because it is small. But it
really has great sound. And the iPhone app works good as well.
Hope that helps.
Merv

Subject: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

Hi,

Looking for advice inview of my several year old Plantronics Voyager Legend
ending it's lifespan.

Wondering if I should get a replacement Voyager Legend or move on to a
Plantronics Edge. Anyone who has tried both have advice? I have enjoyed the
Legend.

Thanks in advance. Keith
