From: ttjt...@groups.io <ttjt...@groups.io> On Behalf Of Rita Howells How to Scan a QR Code with the Camera App: Rita's iDevice Advice for August 8, 2022 Definitions: Bar Code, or QR code? The main difference between barcodes and QR codes is one of physical dimensions. Barcodes can be scanned in a line. This means that data is limited to what can be placed in that one stretch of stripes. QR codes, on the other hand, add another dimension from which information can be written and scanned. While a barcode only holds information in the horizontal direction, a QR code does hold information in both horizontal and vertical directions. Due to this, a QR code holds hundreds of times more information than a barcode. Although both QR codes and barcodes serve the basic purpose of storing information about a particular product or organization, there are some major differences between them. One of the biggest differences comes in terms of the differences between their design or simply how they look. Bar codes have been around for more than a few decades, QR codes have only been a "trend" since the beginning of the last decade, thanks to the boom in smartphone absorption among consumers. It seems that QR codes will remain until the popularity of augmented reality produces a completely different coding system. Note: When running VoiceOver, perform a one finger double tap gesture when the directions say to tap QR codes usually appear as encoded black and white squares that, when scanned, present more information on a topic in the form on a web-page, contact information, video, etc. Open the Settings app, and tap Camera. Make sure Scan QR Codes is toggled on. Open the Camera app. Hold your phone over the QR code so that it's centered in the frame. A banner notification will appear and tell you what the QR code opens and in what app. Tap on the notification if you want to open the QR code's link. Note: You can add the "Code Scanner" to the Control Center for easier access to scan QR codes. Go to Settings, Control Center and choose Code Scanner to show up in the Control Center on your Apple iOS Device.
