I really think so. I dusted off an old midi file I had in my Dropbox I got from 
one of those automated music generators, like the old Microsoft Songsmith, or 
some website like that where you pick a bunch of parameters, and it spits out 
the file and gives you a low-fidelity preview. I thought it would be fun to 
remix and tweak it up because as anyone whoever played such a file in whatever 
default player will open one, the sounds of it aren’t anything to call home 
about, even if the music might be otherwise all right. Now that I have a newer 
Mac Book as well, I thought I’d revisit tinkering with it, but found current 
Garage Band not so great in that sense, except I could play it and export, but 
I couldn’t find how to change what sound you get on each track, or really much 
at all else I could do with it. Is this otherwise wonderful free program to 
play around with not so accessible any more, or are we just doing it wrong?

Oh hell. Garage band has done a lot more changes now so this tutorial won't 
help you at all. They're using an iPhone 4s. So things have changed quite a bit 
with garage band

I've got an iPhone XR, and I know it has Garage Band on it.  I'm looking for
any possible tutorials that can help me get started using it.  Does anyone
know of any and where I can find them?

I couldn't find any on AppleVis, but maybe I didn't see any at this time.
