RE: Home button [was "RE: Getting a new phone and asking questions"]
I most definitely agree with that, Christopher. I am totally blind and was 82, when I got my phone without a home button, had not the first problem at all. I studied what Rita Howels posted on another list, just read over and over it, and it penetrated my brain. My husband was astonished. I really would not want another phone with a home button now. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Christopher Chaltain Sent: Tuesday, December 14, 2021 6:53 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Home button [was "RE: Getting a new phone and asking questions"] For those who don't have any experience with an iPhone that doesn't have a home button, and who may be skeptical about getting an iPhone without a home button, I'd just like to share my experience from earlier today. The only modern iphone that still has the home button is the Iphone SE2. For phones with no home button, pressing the power button 3 times in a row will turn voiceover on and off, you can also change this in accessibility settings but I can't think of why you would want to do that. > On Dec 14, 2021, at 2:09 PM, Lelia Struve wrote: > > Hi all, so right now I have an iPhone S E and the battery is crappy. RE: Getting a new phone and asking questions
Hi, The 12 is bigger than the se and the 7, The 12 range and the 13 range don't have home buttons but you can set the power button to switch voiceover off / on, But is your SE one of the original from about 5 years ago or is it the SE 2020 which does have a home button and would be pretty much identical to the iPHone 7 And work as you would know your current phone does. Hope this helps. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Lelia Struve Sent: Wednesday, 15 December 2021 9:09 am To: Viphone Subject: Getting a new phone and asking questions Hi all, so right now I have an iPhone S E and the battery is crappy. Hi Lelia, Below is a list of dimensions for the iPhone SE 2020 which is the same physically as the iPhone 7 and 8 as compared to the iPhone 12: Height iPhone SE 2020: 5.45 inches iPhone 12: 5.78 inches Width iPhone SE 2020: 2.65 inches iPhone 12: 2.82 inches Depth iPhone SE 2020: 0.29 inches iPhone 12: 0.29 inches Weight iPhone SE 2020: 5.22 ounces iPhone 12: 5.78 ounces Display diagonal iPhone SE 2020: 4.7 inch iPhone 12: 6.1 inch As others have mentioned, when first powering on your new iPhone 12, you can press the side power button 3 times to turn Voiceover on. After you’ve set up your new device, go to Settings, Accessibility, and swipe to the next to last item on the screen which is Accessibility shortcut and double tap it and find Voiceover on the screen that opens and double tap it to select it as your shortcut. This will ensure that pressing the side power button 3 times will toggle Voiceover either on or off for your device. Re: Getting a new phone and asking questions
If you're concerned about the size, you could get a 12 Mini or 13 Mini. The 12 Mini is likely to be cheaper since it is last year's model. In my opinion, size and speech voices are subjective, and everyone has their own preferences of what they like. I think most people can get used to a larger sized phone. If I put my 2020 SE work phone on top of my personal iPhone 11, the 11 is only slightly longer or bigger. Both phones have cases, but if I took them out and compared their sizes, I think there's a slight difference but not much. Besides, a "bigger" phone means more icons on the screen and potentially better battery life. Hello, yes you will be able to do three clicks of the power button, and that will turn off and on voiceover. On the newer model phones. Secondly, I know how you feel about that esses battery. I have the same issue. However, I heard on the newer models, you can assign the back tab to do the home gesture and the app switcher. So no loss there if I have to upgrade.
