Guidance Needed to Access Home Computer with FileBrowser App

2014-10-07 Thread Alan Lemly
I purchased the $5.99 FileBrowser app by Stratospherix Ltd after reading a
post about it on the MacVisionaries list. I previously used Tonido to access
my home computer files while on the road but its latest version no longer
lets me read files such as Word documents and Excel files accessed with it.

I bought FileBrowser because I thought I could use it to access my local
files while away from home. I'm having a bit of conceptual difficulty
figuring out how to set it up to do this so I'm hoping someone on this list
who uses it can help. I've written the developer but have not received a
reply as of yet. I also tried downloading an External Access Guide they have
at their website but it has security on it and my screen reader can't read
it.

Any help anyone can provide about what's needed to access files on a Windows
XP home computer using this app would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a
problem when at home on my own wi-fi network but I want to use FileBrowser
to access my files while traveling. Here's a link to the app in the iTunes
Apps Store:

Re: Guidance Needed to Access Home Computer with FileBrowser App

2014-10-07 Thread David Chittenden
We use file browser to access files on the mac, but only when the Mac is turned
on. We have two hard drives attached directly to our router for accessing files
when we are away from home (or at home for that matter). This gives us the best
of all worlds.

2014-10-07 Thread Richard Turner
Did you set up a VPN?
In reading the description of the app, you have to have your home computer
accessible with file sharing on and use the iPhone VPN to connect.

I've never used VPN.
Good luck,
Richard
