Iphone 6 vs. 6 plus?

I am upgrading tomorrow.
Concerning battery life and quality of the camera, is the plus much better than
the 6?

Re: Iphone 6 vs. 6 plus?

2014-12-27 Thread Kliph
With the battery life it’s a no brainer! I have the plus, and I know people
who have the 6. And the 6Plus’s battery life is almost 60 percent better. As
for the camera, that depends on who you ask, some say the plus camera is
better, some say it is not. The battery life was the deal breaker for me, plus
the extra space on the screen. I use to use a bt keyboard, now I hardly use it
because it is so much easier to type on the 6Plus screen.

Re: IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-22 Thread Mary Otten
Since I have a 5S, I am not in the immediate market. However, if I were, I
would wait before getting that 6+. I would want to see it. I am afraid it will
not be usable with one hand, unless you have giant hands like a professional
basketball player.
I know Apple talked about that pulldown feature, or whatever they call it,
where you double touch the touch ID button, and that brings down the top half
of the screen. Sounds like a geeky workaround to me, made necessary by the
sighted people's supposed need for giant screens. I get why Apple did it, but
I'm sorry.

RE: IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The actual camera on the 6 and 6+ is still 8 MP and very little improved.
Yes, the 6+ has optical image stabilization and Apple has made a few
improvements on the backend when it comes to processing the image. However,
KNFB Reader already mentioned that the increased access to camera functions
in iOS 8 will be a good thing and I guess that KNFB Reader accesses the raw
image and does its own processing. One must not forget that the picture that
is saved in the camera roll, the JPG file, is a highly processed file. Most
good quality and high-end DSLR cameras also allow users to save the raw
image file which can be huge and I know serious photographers who then use
special software to process this file almost pixel by pixel.

Sieghard

Hi John,
Better pictures equal better OCR. As they said in the KNFB presentation, the
software was available way before now but the cameras weren't. the camera
improved with the 5S and there was a difference in the OCR so, I expect that
the even better camera will improve things again.

ATT, and Verizon as well as Teen mobile let you pay monthly for the phone
now. In turn not locking you in to a 2 year contract. But there is no
activation fee, no upgrade fee, and no contract. This allows you to pay the
phone off any time you want, after you do this, you can unlock it any time.

I'm thinking the 6 Plus for the same two reasons, purchasing the 64GB in
space gray. Nothing is in stone, but that is my plan for now. I would have
ordered a 32GB had it been offered, but will try and get the 64GB instead.
I'm no longer under contract, but will still try and buy the phone outright,
anyway, so it will then be my phone to do with as I please. Guess we'll see
whether or not I manage to get up at three eastern time on Friday to order
online via the Apple Store app, and I do plan to stay with ATT. I recall
trying to pre-order the iPhone 5 when I got up around five-thirty in the
morning, but I had already missed the date for the first ones to be shipped,
thus decided I really didn't need to have that phone; and, in fact, since I
believe pre-orders weren't offered last year, I again waited and still
actually have my 4S. But, I'm pretty much certain I will be getting a new
phone this time.

I'm thinking 6+ because of the stabilization. Since I most often carry my
phone in a fanny pack, the slightly larger size shouldn't matter.

2014-09-10 Thread Wayne Merritt
Greetings. I want to look at both of them to see how big 4.7 and 5.5
inches really is on a new phone, but I am leaning more towards the 6.
The 6 Plus seems a little too big for me and I don't really want to
carry around a mini iPad that is alsoa phone. In addition, the 6 is
$100 less, so its a win win.

Why do you think the ocr will not change? I admit I'm not at all an expert in
this area, but it isn't just the sabilization in the camera that has improved
so I'm thinking that the ocr might improve whether you get the 6 or the 6+
though I'm thinking the extra stabilization in the 6+ might give it an edge.
Not challenging you; just want to know why you don't think the ocr will change.

Re: IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-10 Thread Wayne Merritt
A possibel issue to consider is that the 6 Plus may be in high demand
and short supply. Nothing wrong with going to the store to look at
one, but if the demand for the 6 Plus is anything like the demand for
the 5S last year, there may not be many to go around, at least
initially.

Re: IPhone 6 vs 6+ review

2014-09-10 Thread RobH.
Apple unveils 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus
by MacDailyNews
[cfsp key=adsense_336x280]Apple today announced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6
Plus, the biggest advancements in iPhone history, featuring two new
models with stunning 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays, and
packed with innovative technologies in an all-new dramatically thin and
seamless design. The new iPhones feature a precision unibody enclosure
of anodized aluminum that conforms seamlessly with the shaped glass of
the display, resulting in a completely smooth and continuous surface.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are engineered to be the thinnest ever,
delivering a bigger display in a design that is still comfortable to
hold and easy to use.
Packed with innovative new technologies, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
include: the Apple-designed A8 chip with second generation 64-bit
desktop-class architecture for blazing fast performance and power
efficiency; advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras; ultrafast wireless
technologies; and Apple Pay™, an easier way to simply and securely make
payments with just the touch of a finger.¹ Both models include iOS 8,
the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system,
featuring a simpler, faster and more intuitive user experience with new
Messages and Photos features, QuickType™ keyboard, a new Health app,
Family Sharing and iCloud Drive℠.
“iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest advancements in iPhone
history,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The iPhone is the most loved
smartphone in the world with the highest customer satisfaction in the
industry and we are making it much better in every way. Only Apple can
combine the best hardware, software and services at this unprecedented
level and we think customers are going to love it.”
For the first time iPhone is available in two new sizes: iPhone 6
features a stunning 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 1334 x 750
resolution, providing 38 percent more viewing area than iPhone 5s, while
iPhone 6 Plus features an even bigger 5.5-inch Retina HD display with
1920 x 1080 resolution, providing 88 percent more viewing area and
nearly three times the pixels than iPhone 5s. The Retina HD displays
offer advanced technologies including higher contrast for deeper blacks
and dual-domain pixels for more accurate colors at wider viewing angles.
With second generation 64-bit desktop-class architecture, the all-new A8
chip offers faster performance and is more energy efficient, delivering
higher sustained performance with great battery life. With Metal™, a new
graphics technology in iOS 8, developers can take performance of the A8
chip even further to bring console-class 3D games to iPhone. The A8 chip
also includes a new, powerful Apple-designed image signal processor that
enables advanced camera and video features.
Both models include the M8 motion coprocessor that gathers motion data
from the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and the new barometer, which
senses air pressure to provide relative elevation. The M8 motion
coprocessor can continuously measure your motion data, even when the
device is asleep, saving battery life for fitness apps that use the
sensors all day. With iOS 8, motion data from M8 appears in the Health
app so you can see how many flights of stairs you've climbed, or how far
you've walked or run. Developers can use CoreMotion APIs that take
advantage of M8 and HealthKit to create apps that help you take better
care of your health and fitness.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus introduce Apple Pay, an easy way to securely
pay for physical goods and services in stores or apps with just the
touch of a finger. Users can pay securely and conveniently in stores by
simply holding the phone near the contactless reader while keeping a
finger on Touch ID™; there is no need to unlock your iPhone or launch an
app. With Apple Pay, you can also make one-touch purchases within apps,
without having to enter credit card or shipping information. All payment
information is kept private, encrypted and stored securely in the Secure
Element, a chip inside the new iPhones.
The iSight camera gets even better with a new sensor featuring Focus
Pixels for faster autofocus, making it easier to quickly capture any
moment. iPhone 6 Plus users will also benefit from optical image
stabilization technology that compensates for hand shake in low light
and works with iOS 8 to reduce subject motion. High-definition video on
iPhone improves with faster frame rates up to 60fps for 1080p video and
240fps for slo-mo, as well as continuous autofocus, cinematic video
stabilization and time-lapse video. The FaceTime HD camera now captures
over 80 percent more light with a new sensor, larger f/2.2 aperture and
advanced new features including burst mode and HDR video.
With faster LTE download speeds of up to 150 Mbps, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6
Plus users can browse, download and stream content faster. The new
iPhones also support high-quality voice calls over LTE (VoLTE) as well
as Wi-Fi

The 6 Plus seems a little too big for me and I don't really want to carry

RE: IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-10 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi John,
Better pictures equal better OCR. As they said in the KNFB presentation, the
software was available way before now but the cameras weren't. the camera
improved with the 5S and there was a difference in the OCR so, I expect that
the even better camera will improve things again.

Re: IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-10 Thread David Chittenden
The iPhone 6 only have digital image stabilisation. The iPhone 6+ has physical
image stabilisation. Physical stabilisation is significantly better than
digital image stabilisation. This is because, physical image stabilisation
affects the picture before it is taken. Digital image stabilisation only
affects the image after the picture has been taken. In other words, physical
stabilisation will help to correct against any jitter which causes image
blurring when the camera is slightly moved while the picture is being taken.

IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-09 Thread John Diakogeorgiou
I'm curious if people are planning to purchase the new phones? If so,
which size and why? I am thinking that the stabilization of the 6+
will potentially help us with attempting to scan documents for OCR.

Re: IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-09 Thread Brent Harding
I'm thinking about the 6 because I am thinking the 6 plus might be too big
to carry in a pocket, and not necessarily have a lot of difference for us. I
like the idea of the Apple Pay thing, and the wifi calling, if Sprint will
end up allowing it. I ended up straying for a little while and going Android
because the battery in the 4S just doesn't last with iOS 7, and I didn't
want to lock in a contract with the announcement being months away at that
time, but it's tempting to put that up on the selling block and go with a 6.
I hope that a lightning to 30-pin adapter could work with my Klipsch speaker
dock, which is the main reason I use the old 4S as a glorified iPod touch.

Re: IPhone 6 vs 6+

2014-09-09 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I'm thinking 6+ because of the stabilization. Since I most often carry my phone
in a fanny pack, the slightly larger size shouldn't matter.

Cheryl

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
