Re: ITunes Questions
Hi Alan; You sound as though you are pretty good with work arounds. Nothing is perfect. At times we need to be resourceful! Anthony Sent from my Verizon iPhone 5! On Mar 6, 2013, at 11:49 PM, Alan Lemly wale...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, Tom. I feel the same as you about iTunes. The View menu contains the commands to turn the side view on and off. The keyboard shortcut toggle to do this is ctrl + the letter S. If the side bar is not shown, ctrl + s will display it and if it is shown, ctrl + s will hide it. I'm running Windows XP and notice sometimes that my iPhone also is not displayed when I connect it to the computer's USB port. When this happens, I unplug it and then reconnect it and then it usually displays in the iTunes side bar. My girlfriend and I both have ITunes version 11.something-or-other on our computers and we can't seem to get to the sources tree view consistently and easily. Is there a keyboard command that will consistently make it visible and bring focus to it? Second, on my Windows XP machine, I can see my iPhone 4 listed in the sources tree view when it's connected. On my girlfriend's machine running Windows 7, however, even though her iPhone 4 is connected and it syncs, the phone is not visible in the sources tree view. Why is that and how can we fix the problem. Both of our iPhone 4's are running IOS 6.1.2. There are other issues regarding her ITunes library, but I won't get into those right now. Thanks in advance. RE: ITunes Questions
Actually, I did the upgrade and since I enabled the side bar it works mostly like the old version for my purposes, and about 80% of what I use it for is backup or purchases. It is a lot easier for me to find an app and read about it on the computer. Using Jaws 14, Windows 7, and IE 9. I have the podcasts on my phone in Downcast and listened to part of one before being interrupted, need to get back and finished them off someday. RE: ITunes Questions
My only reason for running itunes is for backup purposes since I mostly use my tablet to do most of my computing. I'd upgrade if I were getting some bran new features, but from what I can see from a distance, I don't need to upgrade and my iPad works great on itunes 10 and it is so easy to transfer music and other stuff back and forth. Oh someday I will upgrade but for now I am happy. RE: ITunes Questions
I have a question related to iTunes, and music. My friend has an iMac computer, she has boot-camped it with Windows 7. She can access her music on the Mac side, but cannot access the music from the library in iTunes. She can find the music in the purchased area, and she can even bring up a song from there and play it, but she cannot make play lists to transfer to her iPhone. She is using JAWS 13, and System Access for her screen readers. How can she be able to access her music from the Windowss side of her computer? I press F6 once to jump to the first drop-down list of the column browser which is Genre. Of course that assumes you have the column browser enabled. I then Shift+Tab twice and I’m on the “iPhone” button, enter or space will activate it. I then have all the usual buttons like Summary, Info, Apps, Tones etc. which I can check to manage the various sync aspects of iTunes with my iPhone. Was this music bought or copied to the Windows partition outside of Itunes? If so Itunes wouldn't have added to its library. What I would do to be on the safe side is to copy the music to the aautomatically add to itunes folder on the Mac partition. RE: ITunes Questions
Hi, Tom. Re: ITunes Questions
No, that is too simple. For the iPhone, only one iTunes can manage its music. Each iTunes will erase what was installed by the other iTunes. As for both iTunes accessing the same music, I did it using an external drive. I pointed iTunes toward the music in preferences. The external drive needs to be formatted FAT32 for both windows and mac to work properly with it. I have heard there is a way using another program to get mac iTunes to work with NTFS, but it adds more complexity. RE: ITunes Questions
Hi marco, Everything is in fact just as easy to find in iTunes 11, but it's different and involves a bit of a learning curve. The old and familiar is always what some people prefer even if the new is better and there is no doubt that iTunes 11 is faster and now that I have gotten used to it and figured out all the shortcuts, I actually like how Apple has redesigned it. I should, however, say that in the very latest iTunes 11 update a few bugs have crept in, one of them being the one about not being able to sync selected audio books. I mostly listen to my Audio Books with Audible, but for some this could be a big issue and hopefully it is something either Apple or Freedom Scientific will fix. It would be interesting to see if somebody who uses Window Eyes experiences the same problem and I will maybe try it tonight with System Access to Go. Re: ITunes Questions
I just hate how apple doesn't allow for the rolling back of an update if one discovers that the new update is not working for them. This is one of my reasons for holding off on itunes 11. Having used itunes 10.6 on a xp machine i can honestly say that the itunes 10 running on a 64 bit windows 7 computer is super fast and i don't think that the new itunes will be any faster and besides, how much easier then having itunes launching in about 10 seconds and it opening up right in the list view. It sounds like itunes 11 has a lot more keystrokes to do before one can get to doing work. I press F6 once to jump to the first drop-down list of the column browser which is Genre. Of course that assumes you have the column browser enabled. I then Shift+Tab twice and I’m on the “iPhone” button, enter or space will activate it. RE: ITunes Questions
Hi Marco, What does rolling back updates have to do with iTunes 11? You can reinstall a previous version of any app as long as you make a copy of said app and that is the same in iTunes 10 or iTunes 11. If I am uncertain whether an update like, for example, Skype this morning, works well, I just go to my Mobile Apps folder in iTunes Media, I go to the app in question, press Control+C and Control+V which creates a second copy of the app. Then I update the app and, if for some reason I want to go back, I just delete the non-copy of the app from both my iPhone and my iTunes library, then I rename the copy of the app to what the regular version is and sync my iPhone. This will put the old version back. As far as loading times are concerned, on my Windows 7 64 Bit laptop with an I5 processor and 6 Gb of RAM iTunes 11 launches from nothing in 3 to 4 seconds which is a lot faster than how long iTunes 10 used to take. Once you get used to iTunes 11 there isn't much you can't do just as efficiently. RE: ITunes Questions
Hi Tom, Try using F6 to navigate quickly between the source list and other parts of the program (which is as annoying as you say). You should be able to hit D for device in the Source List and then expand that with the right arro which will bring up the name of the device. From there you can use the context key to Sync, Transfer Purchases from the device to your PC, Backup, Restore etc. Jon -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Tom Lange Sent: Wednesday, March 06, 2013 8:41 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: ITunes Questions Hi, I'm going to preface my post by saying that I really hate ITunes with a purple passion and think that it's a royal pain in the behind. Matthew, Thanks, I know about ITunes Match and may well go that route soon, but we have quite a lot of music which actually isn't in ITunes and also more than the specified amount, so I'd have to make choices, sort ITunes etc., so I haven't taken that one further at the moment. -- CarolP - Original Message - From: matthew Dyer ilovecountrymusic...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2012 7:32 PM Subject: Re: ITUNES QUESTIONS Carel, For $29.99 a year you can have itunes match which will store your itunes lybary in the cloud.
