How do you turn on voice over on an iPhone without the home button? I know I
can just hit the home button 3 times on my iPhone 8. Thanks.
Also, I'm sure apple accessibility will help you with setting up your apple
device. When I got my iPhone 8, I accidentally locked myself out of my iPhone
because I had trouble entering my passcode. When I called apple accessibility,
I was told that I would need to reinstall my iPhone's operating system or
something. This guy, helped me get on iTunes and walked me through the steps.
Once that was done, someone else helped me set up my iPhone.

I believe on a phone it is a triple click of the side button, or on an iPad
without a home button, a triple click of the button on the top.

That is correct.
Power it up, and triple click the home button or in the iPad's case, possibly
the side switch if no home button, and you can go from there.

Evan,

I just got an iPad mini for Christmas, and the setup was no problem. VoiceOver
started with triple click home, and you can just follow the prompts from there.
I had an older iPad, so I restored an iCloud backup of that to the new mini.

In short, no vision was needed.

Good luck,
Pam

Subject: Is It Possible to Set Up an iPad out of the Box without Any Sighted
Assistance?

Hello,

Kind of a followup to my recent inquiry, if my Life Partner decides to get an
iPad, is it possible to set one up without any sighted assistance?

The problem is that we are having a very hard time right now getting an
appointment at the Apple store, where they would normally do that for a blind
customer. So basically, we would be having to get it running from square one.

My Life Partner has a very limited amount of partial vision, and I have none at
all. I do however, have some familiarity with VoiceOver, having had an iPad
Mini for a few years. So I could likely be of help in setting it up, once
VoiceOver has been activated.

I would be grateful for any advice on this.

Evan

Does the side switch require three clicks too?
Thanks!

That is correct.
Power it up, and triple click the home button or in the iPad's case, possibly
the side switch if no home button, and you can go from there.
