Re: Issue with newly purchased voice on voice dream reader

Hi Tim. Sadly, Neospeech hasn't made any voices for the Mac and I doubt they
will. Ivona keeps saying that they will at some point make voices for the
Mac but for me that's just talk until they actually do it. I'm glad you like
the Acapela voices though. I don't see what's good about Karen and Will,
Will sounds like Paul from Neospeech and Karen sounds like she could be
Acapela Laura's sister because she sounds so robotic and digital. I know
I've said this so many times but I can't wait until Assistiveware releases
Acapela Sharon for Mac and Winston releases her for VDR. Anyway, I'm pretty
sure that the mods will say that this is getting off topic so if you like,
you can email me off list at bbssh...@icloud.com and we can talk more about
this.

but I meant to say never mind. Lol. It’s working like a charm and they’re
actually not as expensive as I thought so may have to invest in a few later.
Now, my question is, how can you test out the Neospeech voices or can you,
for the mac like you can the accapella voices. Is there a demo something, to
try out Ashley for the Mac? I’m going to get her for Voice Dream possibly
and look at the other neo speech voices but I’m leaning more and more
towards he accapella voices because they are really sounding good,
especially Will and Karen. Thanks for the help guys and take care. Talk to

That is kind of a tough question. I did get to hear the sample. I did
not get the error that people have talked about. I suppose that some
people might think Ashley sounds rather flat. If you are for example, a
fan of the ivona is Sally voice, you probably won't like Ashley. She is
sort of like a female James, as far as intonation goes. But I still
think James is better.I would use her for reading nonfiction if I didn't

emotional scenes in them. But, to each their own of course.

Thanks for your comment. That's great you were able to get the upgrades
without the problems. With the myriad of hardware and software versions that
are out there, it's a wonder we don't get more issues than we do.

I was one of the fortunate ones who didn't have the bug with any voices.
For me, the default iOS voice is there in the list.
In fact, all the English iOS voices are listed.

In a file I found somewhere, it showed that Karen can make her voice slightly
deeper for male characters in a novel and soforeth. What other features do the
new Acapella voices have? Mickah sounds bored as ever, and they just don't
sound all that better. Would I just be better off buying more Ivona voices?

I was one of the fortunate ones who didn't have the bug with any voices.
For me, the default iOS voice is there in the list.
In fact, all the English iOS voices are listed.

Default iOS Voices Missing in Writer was RE: Issue with newly purchased voice on voice dream reader

2015-02-24 Thread Alan Lemly
I've already sent this issue to Winston but I'm curious if others are also
experiencing it.

I upgraded both VDR and VDW to the latest versions in the last couple of
days and re-downloaded my purchased voices in VDR. When I go into Writer and
select audio settings, I note that my downloaded voices are there but the
high quality built-in iOS voices that I use with VO are not listed. I lean
toward using Samantha since I've gotten used to her and that default English
voice on my iPhone is not available in VDW.

I suspect this is one of the bugs Winston will be fixing but I wanted to ask
if others are also experiencing it.

Thanks.

2015-02-24 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Russ,
To be honest, it has been a while since I have used Kate. She sounds more
processed, more digital, some kind of artifact in there that I don't care for
but I don't know what to call it. So my voice is our Ashley Kendra and James
and I do have Amy, although for some reason I'm not is taken with her as many
others have been.
And interestingly enough, this morning, when I updated the VoiceStream on my
old iPhone for S, I found that I had to "repurchase" Ashley yet again. Of
course, I was not charged, as it knows I bought the voice once I get checked in
to my Apple ID with my password. So if this happens to you, don't be surprised.
Go ahead and just pretend you're rebuying the voice and everything will be
great.
Mary

I kinda found that Karen sounds like a deeper voiced version of Laura. I
demoed her for a while on the Mac so this is what I found her to sound like.
If you have a Mac, you should demo her for Infovox Ivox and see if you want
her for Voice Dream.

Hello all,
I recently did update voice dream reader, because it was necessary to
update that before updating boy stream writer. I subsequently decided to
purchase the new Ashley voice using my iPhone. All went well, and the
voice works as expected.
Now, I have updated voice dream reader on my iPad, and installed a couple
of my favorite voices. However, the Ashley voice did not show up as
having been purchased. And, when I look under and voices, I see Ashley,
and it asks me to purchase it again. I have never had this problem in the
past. Voices purchased on one device were always transferable to another
device by simply downloading them under the manage my voices tap. Has
anyone purchased a voice since updating voice dream reader? And have you
been able to get that voice on more than one device?

Also, there is a slight bug in the spell checker where after replacing some
bugs, the checker still shows that work in the list until it is reopened. Also,
why can't we add words to the dictionary or whatever, so that the word is not
displayed in the checker anymore?

Also, there is a slight bug in the spell checker where after replacing some
bugs, the checker still shows that work in the list until it is reopened. Also,
why can't we add words to the dictionary or whatever, so that the word is not
displayed in the checker anymore?

That is kind of a tough question. I did get to hear the sample. I did not
get the error that people have talked about. I suppose that some people
might think Ashley sounds rather flat. If you are for example, a fan of the
ivona is Sally voice, you probably won't like Ashley. She is sort of like a
female James, as far as intonation goes. But I still think James is better.I
would use her for reading nonfiction if I didn't want to use James. I don't
think I would like her for novels with emotional scenes in them. But, to
each their own of course.

Hello all,
I recently did update voice dream reader, because it was necessary to
update that before updating boy stream writer. I subsequently decided to
purchase the new Ashley voice using my iPhone. All went well, and the
voice works as expected.
Now, I have updated voice dream reader on my iPad, and installed a couple
of my favorite voices. However, the Ashley voice did not show up as having
been purchased. And, when I look under and voices, I see Ashley, and it
asks me to purchase it again. I have never had this problem in the past.
Voices purchased on one device were always transferable to another device
by simply downloading them under the manage my voices tap. Has anyone
purchased a voice since updating voice dream reader? And have you been
able to get that voice on more than one device?

Mary

2015-02-24 Thread Rose Combs
Alex is okay for a while, then I go back to Samantha even though I do wish she
would get rid of that smoker's voice. I guess it is just that I am used to
her, don't like her much but it has been on my phone forever, sometimes hear
Alex especially if I am working and in the zone can startle me. I remember one
of the first times I wondered who the man was that sounded like he was in my
pocket, LOL. If I am reading with Kindle or iBooks I sort of prefer Alex, but
for normal stuff I am used to Samantha. I could wish we had more choices here
in America, I am not overly fond of British English or anything like that when
I am trying to get something accomplished, they are fun to play with, for me
not to get anything accomplished.

However, it subjective, and it may be that normally I have my speech going
faster than many would.

Hi. My issue is that when I updated vdr and vdw and got the voices, they work
in vdr, but not in VDW. Does anyone know why this is? I'd rather not redownload
the voices, as they cannot be downloaded on the school wifi network for some
reason, but they can on the verizon data network. So yeah, I'd rather not use
up another 200 gigs for that.

RE: Issue with newly purchased voice on voice dream reader

2015-02-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
How subjective synthetic voices are to people is evident in how much many like
Alex while I think he sounds quite bad. But then again I wish I could get
Eloquence on my iPhone!

I still like Kendra from I Vona. I know we had a big discussion about that a
few months ago. So I always say to each his or her own. But at this point for
me, it would be Kendra or Ashley on the female side and James on the male side.
And if Apple ever lets us have Alex, I would also use him.

Hi Keith,
You have updated your voice dream, right? Ashley only appears after you update.
Then you have to reinstall any purchased voices. And if you go to add new
voices, Ashley should be there. Interestingly, she was in a different place in
the voice order on my iPhone as opposed to my iPad mini. So, I'm not sure what
to say about where to find her. But she was definitely there in US English

It's true. Neospeech and Ivona aren't available for Mac, but Acapela and the
Nuance Vocalizer Expressive voices like Ava, Samantha and of course Tom are.
I'm using Acapela Sharon for NVDA right now and contrary to the other
Acapela voices, she's the most human sounding of them. Anyway, this is kinda
getting off topic so if you want to ontinue this conversation, you can email
me off list.

Well, I finally decided to just buy Ashley again on my iPad, on the theory
that it wouldn't let me do it. And sure enough, after I signed in with my
Apple ID I was informed that I had already purchased this voice, and what I
like to download it for free on this device. Yes. I did. And everything is
now in order. I have no clue why it did not show up in my purchased voices.
I was unaware that there were any voices available for the Mac other than
those which Apple offers. There are things like Tom, for instance. Are there
others? Are they for sale?I would love to have Tatiana for the Mac, and I
would also love to have James for the Mac. But so far as I'm aware there
aren't any Neospeech or I won't voices on the Mac. And I didn't think there

Hello all,
I recently did update voice dream reader, because it was necessary to
update that before updating boy stream writer. I subsequently decided to
purchase the new Ashley voice using my iPhone. All went well, and the
voice works as expected.
Now, I have updated voice dream reader on my iPad, and installed a
couple of my favorite voices. However, the Ashley voice did not show up
as having been purchased. And, when I look under and voices, I see
Ashley, and it asks me to purchase it again. I have never had this
problem in the past. Voices purchased on one device were always
transferable to another device by simply downloading them under the
manage my voices tap. Has anyone purchased a voice since updating voice
dream reader? And have you been able to get that voice on more than one
device?

Mary

I still like Kendra from I Vona. I know we had a big discussion about that a
few months ago. So I always say to each his or her own. But at this point for
me, it would be Kendra or Ashley on the female side and James on the male side.
And if Apple ever lets us have Alex, I would also use him.

Hi Richard,
I have only one Apple ID. So I don't believe I could be signed in as anybody
else but me. Smile. I will try again on the iPad. And I'm not sure what I will
do if Ashley remains unavailable. Maybe I will just call the Apple people and
see what they say.

RE: Issue with newly purchased voice on voice dream reader

2015-02-23 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Where do you find the Ashley voice? I've just gone through all voices on my
Voice Dream Reader, listing I'd guess 20 to 30 voices, and I didn't find
Ashley. And, I went through the whole list 3 times! I know I'll feel stupid
when I find out, but, dang, it just doesn't seem to be there.

Thanks for any help. Keith

I would generally agree with what Mary said. I used to like Laura from Acapella
for an American female voice, but the Quality of Ashley's voice is way better.
My wife also likes Julie, but she is a little too chipper sounding to me.
I do not like Sally at all.
At this point, even though I have purchased several other voices, the only ones
I plan on using now are Amy from Ivona, and James or Ashley from NeoSpeech.

2015-02-23 Thread Mary Otten
That is kind of a tough question. I did get to hear the sample. I did not get
the error that people have talked about. I suppose that some people might think
Ashley sounds rather flat. If you are for example, a fan of the ivona is Sally
voice, you probably won't like Ashley. She is sort of like a female James, as
far as intonation goes. But I still think James is better.I would use her for
reading nonfiction if I didn't want to use James. I don't think I would like
her for novels with emotional scenes in them. But, to each their own of course.

How does Ashley sound? I tried getting a voice sample of her but she was one
of the voices that had the download error.

Subject: Issue with newly purchased voice on voice dream reader

Hello all,
I recently did update voice dream reader, because it was necessary to update
that before updating boy stream writer. I subsequently decided to purchase
the new Ashley voice using my iPhone. All went well, and the voice works as
expected.
Now, I have updated voice dream reader on my iPad, and installed a couple of
my favorite voices. However, the Ashley voice did not show up as having been
purchased. And, when I look under and voices, I see Ashley, and it asks me
to purchase it again. I have never had this problem in the past. Voices
purchased on one device were always transferable to another device by simply
downloading them under the manage my voices tap. Has anyone purchased a
voice since updating voice dream reader? And have you been able to get that
voice on more than one device?

Mary
