Not sure if this will help but have you told your iOS device that you want to 
trust this computer upon connecting by usb?

Running ITunes's latest, you know how when you connected your phone or 
I-device, upon synching, ITunes would alert you via the tri-tone? What 
setting would I need to change for it to resume this behavior I wonder?
