Hi listers,

While watching the final season of Breaking Bad as it was broadcast, I
found myself wishing I had a DVR. I have grown to love the Apple TV,
as it has opened up the worlds of Netflix and HBO go to me, and can't
believe there isn't an accessible DVR solution. I am fairly happy
with my Verizon Fios service, although more for the internet speeds
than the TV. Is there any way I could use their DVR either via the
computer or IOS device? I have limited vision, and one of the things
I like about the iPad is the ability to hold it very close to my face
to watch TV. This enables me to use my vision much more than watching
the set from a distance. If the Verizon DVR is unusable to a blind
person, might there be a solution from another provider? Could I buy
a DVR from another company and integrate it with my Fios service?
Please let me know if there is another list that would be better
suited for this discussion. The BlindTech list appears to be gone.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking for an accessible DVR

2013-10-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't have a Romeo, I think I have the TiVo Premium IV, but I've seen
references to the Romeo in updates to the TiVo app. I'd double check to
make sure that the Romeo is supported by the TiVo app. I find the TiVo
app very accessible though, and there's only one thing I haven't figured
out how to do with the TiVo app so far, and that's add a station to my
favorites list. Accessing the guide, settting up a recording, playing
recordings and so on are all accessible with the TiVo app.

Re: Looking for an accessible DVR

2013-10-23 Thread Peter Logan
Hello,

I have Dish Network and the 722 receiver. With the Dish Anywhere app
I can completely utiliz my DVR. The only part of the app which isn't
accessible is the guide, so I just do that from the web site. I can
schedule recordings .. edit timers ... watch shows .. delete things
... run the TV remote ... in my opinion it has given me complete
control over my TV viewing.

Hope this helps ...

not sure about the verison dvr, but the directv dvr does have an ios app
that at least gives some functionality to the blind for controling the dvr.
try calling version and see if there is an app that will let you control it
from your ios device.

Subject: Looking for an accessible DVR

Eric

Re: Looking for an accessible DVR

2013-10-20 Thread Christopher Chaltain
A TiVo box with the TiVo app is very accessible. My cable provider uses
TiVo for their DVR, but TiVo will also work with other TV providers.
check with tivo.com to get some more information.
