Re: Mail App not Always Vibrating and Dinging with New Mail
Hello, everyone. After extensive conversations with an Apple representative who, through a couple encounters, has shown me she knows what she is doing, I have to some extent lessened the severity of my problem. The account in question, a Verizon/Aol one that I had configured as a POP3 account (obviously not the one I use for this group), is now an IMAP one. I have long thought of changing from POP3 to IMAP, and although I have a good reason for using POP, I know very well the advantages of an IMAP configuration. To make a long story short, we are working on the theory that even though AOL supports POP3 and IMAP, the IMAP configuration works better. With IMAP, the "new email" ding sounds much more often than it did with the POP setup. This problem didn't rear its head until I updated to iOS 12, so we may well be talking about the possibility that iOS 12 is pickier about the way its mail app interacts with AOL Mail than was iOS 11.x. I realize that this scenario is highly conjectural and even possibly suspect, but I am moving on since this problem is hardly a show-stopper. I appreciate everyone's contributions to this thread. BTW, for those unfamiliar with the workings of Verizon email, AOL now manages Verizon email accounts. This makes for an unsettling experience for some users. Thanks very much, Mark, for your upbeat message. Unfortunately, "Quick" is one of the vibration settings I have selected during testing, and still, the new mail notification is oddly intermittent. It fails more than it succeeds. I appreciate everyone's helpfulness, and I am confident a solution will be found before I am driven over the brink. Craig On Thu, Oct 4, 2018 at 2:07 AM M. RE: Mail App not Always Vibrating and Dinging with New Mail
Believe it or not, I noticed the same behavior after updating to iOS 12 and it drove me crazy until I discovered the solution, (smile). While this was done, automatically in iOS 11, in iOS 12, from the Settings menu, select sounds and haptics. Next, Make certain that Vibrate on Silent is set to on. Next, select the New Mail item by single-finger Double-tapping. Now, at the very top of the display, select the Vibration pattern. The default is set to off. This is why there is no vibration. Simply set it to Quick, and all will be as it was in iOS 11. (smile). Re: Mail App not Always Vibrating and Dinging with New Mail
Yes me too I encountered the lack of vibration upon updating to iOS12. I fixed it and all is vibrating as it should, by going into Settings/Souns, and changing the vibration pattern from Standard, to I think it was alert? When I started having this problem, I changed the sound for new mail to aurora, and now get this sound consistentlny when I check for and receive mail. The vibration has not come back.
