So I have an Iphone 8. yesterday the phone updated to to IOS 14.6 on its own, I
have since turned off automatic updates because I don't want it updating until
I'm ready for it to do so. Anyway, I went in to VO settings to turn off screen
recognition because I wanted to avoid any of the app issues discussed in this
thread with my apps. But I could not find this setting anywhere. Is this only a
setting that is available for newer phones? If not then where is the setting
on an iphone 8?

RE: Major problem with latest iOS

2021-06-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No need to hide it if you can simply turn it off. I have 1 app where Voiceover
reads absolutely nothing without screen recognition and where with screen
recognition I can use the app fairly well so it does have its uses, but it is
definitely best to make sure all apps are deselected so you can just enable
this via the rotor in a particular app. If you find you have no need for it at
all just turn it off and remove it from the rotor and it's done, it's
effectively hidden.

That’s exactly what customer service from Aira suggested, if you still have
issues with connecting to Aira for example after troubleshooting this, with
that fix, call or email the Aira customer care.

RE: Major problem with latest iOS

2021-06-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I just tested this and if I go into Voiceover Settings > Voice Recognition >
Screen Recognition and deselect the apps for which screen recognition is on,
then close all apps in the apps witcher and turn the phone off, then wait maybe
30 seconds and turn it back on all was back to normal.

I agree. I tested and retested to try and produce there results the only way
you will get these results if like you said it is set on for that app. It
isn‘t hard to fix.

And if you & others turn off screen recognition like I suggest, by going into
the app switcher, rather than trying to turn screen recognition off within the
app, Aira & other apps will work just fine once again. Refuse to try my
suggestion, your loss being stuck with unusable apps.

I think what everybody is failing to realize is when this problem occurs there
is no evidence of screen recognition in the rotor whatsoever because the screen
is 1000% completely blank meaning your app is completely useless you can’t do
anything with it whatsoever as nothing speaks and when you ask someone to

When this happened with me last night with the NBA app, the screen appeared
completely blank when I was exploring it with VoiceOver, but my sighted wife
said everything looked completely normal to her. In other words, the screen
wasn’t blank to a sighted user, and voiceOver’s screen curtain wasn’t turned
on. It’s true that I couldn’t turn off screen recognition while I was in the
NBA app but I could do it when in the App Switcher, as Donna has pointed out.
This is what got this app working for me again, so I could listen to the Bucks
and then the Jazz.

If you're in an app which has screen recognition turned on, twist the

Thanks, however even when you do that and reinstall the app even if it is off
once the app does not work there’s no way to get it to work again.

With the problem apps in the app switcher, place voiceover focus on the app,
turn the rotor to screen recognition, flick to turn off screen recognition, tap
to open the app. I am not having any trouble using Aira. IOS 14.6, most recent
update to Aira.

Re: Major problem with latest iOS

2021-06-11 Thread Dana Leet
I think what everybody is failing to realize is when this problem occurs there
is no evidence of screen recognition in the rotor whatsoever because the screen
is 1000% completely blank meaning your app is completely useless you can’t do
anything with it whatsoever as nothing speaks and when you ask someone to
review the screen it is completely black

Re: Major problem with latest iOS

2021-06-11 Thread Matthew Bullis
If you're in an app which has screen recognition turned on, twist the rotor to
screen recognition and flick down to turn it off. Then twist away so as not to
accidentally turn it on again.

Major problem with latest iOS

2021-06-11 Thread Tim Leet
Attention everyone, the latest iOS update has caused major problems. I
currently cannot use Microsoft outlook nor can I use Aira. When I try to open
these apps the only thing you get is a blank screen. I think one of the reasons
for this is because we turned screen recognition on while I was in the app the
other day. We did a reset on the phone and did a back up through iTunes, called
Apple and they did a screen share and video and send a ticket to the
tech-support. They ask that anyone that is having problems with any app not
opening to please contact them and let them know about it so they can try to
find the problem. My wife is also having difficulty with an app she downloaded
yesterday it was working she turned screen recognition on to try to figure out
something in the app and it will not load anymore. So the best advice I could
give you is do not turn screen recognition on if you do you may not be able to
use the app that you turned it on with because you definitely can’t turn it off
once this happens. Again anyone having these problems need to let Apple know.
