RE: Need to erase old damaged iPhone 6. any advice
An iPhone 6 which is this damaged isn't going to be worth anything for resale so you may as well destroy it if all you want to do is make sure nobody can access it any more. On the other hand if it has a passcode and you can't even get into it then it's unlikely anybody else can either and I would just drop it off at a recycling depot or ask at an Apple Store if they take it back to be recycled. I assume you could drop it into a bucket of water for a day or so if you really want to make sure it's dead, an iPhone 6 shouldn't last very long especially not if the screen is cracked. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Carolyn Sent: December 8, 2021 12:42 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Need to erase old damaged iPhone 6. any advice Well, between a bucket of water, and a sledge hammer, something is bound to kill the phone! RE: Need to erase old damaged iPhone 6. any advice
Hi Kevin, Any chance you have a Bluetooth keyboard and could use that to navigate through the menus with vo? Or try doing a factory restore which will involve needing to connect your phone to the computer, But shouldn’t’ require a trust acceptance. From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Kevin Gibbs Sent: Tuesday, 7 December 2021 4:51 pm To: VIPhone Subject: Need to erase old damaged iPhone 6. any advice I have an old iPhone 6 that belongs to my wife and we want to dispose of it while making certain that all the data has been wiped. Unfortunately, the screen of the phone is heavily damaged such that it can't really be read at all and operating the phone through touch is all but impossible. I did manage to get into the phone twice on different days. VO does work and that's the only way we know that the phone has data. but getting in is not a sure thing. And, even if you manage it, getting around the screens to the reset is not a certainty. My wife is sighted and doesn't use VO at all. I tried connecting the phone to an expendable Win7 computer for the purpose of erasing the data and I was told by the Win7 machine that, in order to proceed, I would have to acknowledge the computer's attempt to connect with this damaged phone by responding on the phone. You can see the problem. Does anyone have a hack or a suggestion that would allow me to get to the RESET to factory default by any means at all? My wife is intensely respectful of piracy and data privacy and merely handing this off to anyone without making an effort to sanitize it is not desirable. Any help appreciated. Re: Need to erase old damaged iPhone 6. any advice
Here Here’s an update. I tried connecting my wife’s iPhone to my Windows 7 machine and holding the home and sleep buttons to begin the recovery mode process. I thought I was doing well until the message still came up that I would have to respond on the iPhone to facilitate the download and restore. I’ve checked with my wife’s iCloud account and this phone is Sent from my iPhone > On Dec 6, 2021, at 9:51 PM, Kevin Gibbs wrote: > > I have an old iPhone 6 that belongs to my wife and we want to dispose of it > while making certain that all the data has been wiped.
