Re: Open Library.org with Adobe acrobat

2016-08-15 Thread Ann Smith
Well, the only device I have to read on for right now is my iPhone 6. So I
guess I can't read any of the Daisy books unless their unprotected. So, how do
I get the EPUB and other electronic books downloaded?
Somebody helped me to install Adobe Digital editions the other day. I read the
help pages, and it said that you need Adobe to be able to read the electronic
books. I have tried to find archive.org's book reader in the App Store and
can't find it.

Well, a bunch of these books are as early as 1894 and up through the 80s and
stuff. I don't know if they would still consider that protected Daisy. Says
protected days you next to it. Should I just stay out of the Daisy section, and
go through the EPUB section
Archive.org says it has some kind of a book reader, so you can read the
electronic books. I can't find it. I'm in St. Louis Missouri, so I don't think
open library is affiliated with our overdrive service year.
Quite a lot of upside like to read off of there. His books are so old, you can
get them from Kendall or other typical places for the blind.
Sorry about the typos.

The DAISY Copyright protected books from the Open Library cannot be
accessed on an iPhone or computer. Only devices that play NLS talking
books can access them like the Bookport Plus, victor Stream and
Braille Note. NLS has a list of supported devices online or you could
call your regional library and someone can read you the list. Of
course, Open Library books whose copyright has expired can be read on

The Open Library books have not been edited or formatted. They were
digitized by high speed scanners with automatic page turners. These
books are what books would be like from a volunteer Bookshare scanner

Thanks Russ, but when I followed your link for the frequently asked questions I
got this:
We’re sorry, the page you have requested is not available.

The open library has lots and lots of material, but I've never found them
terribly well formatted.
If you want the DAISY version, you don't want to follow the link that says,
"read online" you follow the book title link, then the link to "editions" then
the daisy link, then the link that says download DAISY zip.
At that link, you can get the "more" button and then download it directly into
Voice Dream Reader.
But, as I have found, nothing is marked up beyond the beginning of the book.
The same with the ePub versions.
There are often dozens if not hundreds of editions to pick from.
Good luck,
Richard

Now, I understand you need Adobe Digital editions to read sometimes of
