An Air Tag will only work within 30 feet or so. If you get a GPS signal, I 
think the best thing to do is use an app like Blind Square, Voice Vista, or 
Ariadne. This will guide you close enough to the door and your AirTag could get 
you the rest of the way. You could put the AirTag on the inside of the door so 
nobody steals it.

Only if you can get to within 30 feet of it or so.
It's Bluetooth range and while it could be a little more than 30 feet, the 
beeping you can trigger is not very loud.

I believe they only work, when in Bluetooth range, which is generally around 30
