RE: Push notification for Gmail in native iOS mail app

2013-03-08 Thread Cristobal
I kind of had the idea that Exchange may have been done away with since all
the board posts and blog entries were at least six months old and often
older. Still, what a bummer. I actually like the native iPhone mail app and
would prefer to have all my accounts in one spot. I may just consider paying
for the Google apps service if that's the case. Can anyone comment on
whether paying for exchange does in fact address this issue and how
accessible the process is?

I downloaded the native Gmail app last night and it is certainly a different
layout. Accessible, but just different. Not as clean or straight away as the
native mail app.

Can anyone speak as to the current accessibility of Push4.0 or ultimate
notifier? I saw a review of Push 4.0 on Apple Vis, but that was from a few
months ago.

Thanks,

Google has deprecated Exchange support, unfortunately. It'll work for paid
Google Apps users, and it'll continue to work for all existing devices that
are set up to use it. But if you haven't used it on your phone before then
unfortunately you're out of luck and you'll have to set up IMAP, which does
not include push.

There are several third party apps such as Ultimate Notifier and Push
4.0 and the native Gmail app that can push mail to you. It likely won't feel
the same as having full Exchange support at hand, but IMAP has its
advantages too.

My question is, can this in fact be done either through the native
mail app or would I have better luck with a third party solution? I

Has Apple or Google by any chance killed this feature?

I'm running the latest iOS. Any suggestions on what settings I may
tweak or what third party apps I could use as a substitute would be
 very much appreciated.

Hi,

I have been using gmail push for sometime with no problems here. You might
want to varrify that everything is filled in correctly.

Hi Matthew, yes it will continue to work indefinitely for existing
devices. It will not, however, work with new devices that have never
been set up for Microsoft Exchange and Gmail.
