It is very accessible, though it will not automatically read out the identified item, you have to find that on the screen. That is the only drawback, though - it is much easier to scan bar codes than Digit Eyes, and it has a manual control for the light if your device supports that. To be fair, Digit Eyes may have added such a control in their latest update, I'm not sure. Still, when I can run my phone all over a box for minutes and find no code with Digit Eyes, then do the same with Red Laser and have a scan in seconds, I know which one I'd rather use. You know my problem with Red Laser is it says something like Product of Albertsons instead of saying the product. Is there a setting, or just my roll of the dice with the couple of things I have tried? It's the items. you are scanning. Red laser and Digit Eyes use different product databases, and sometimes each app can recognize things the other cannot. Since my almost 20 year old ID Mate is no longer functioning well, I decided to give Digit-Eyes a try. I'm impressed! But I'm not finding the bar codes as quickly with Digit-Eyes, and my phone's camera, as I could with my ID Mate. For those of you using a laser scanner, do you find it easier to find the bar codes with the scanner than with the phone's camera? Hello Karen, On the Digit-Eyes web site, Nancy Miracle has a link discussing laser scanners that she recommends and has tested extensively with Digit-Eyes. I too have an old ID Omni Mate, but I only use it when I have extreme difficulty finding the barcode with Digit-Eyes. Remember, the camera on the iPhone is not multi-directional, which will make it more time comsuming to find. On the same web site, there is another link to give you tips on how to be more sucessful finding the barcodes on various objects. The website address is www.digit-eyes.com. HTH. Happy scanning. Hi Annie, I don't have a scanner right now. I usually can figure out and have Digit-Eyes find the barcode pretty quickly. Once in a while, I get stuck and will use my ID Mate. Let's see if I can be concise and give you some tips. 1. for boxes, I locate the top flap as if I would open it, and then turn it upside down and try the left corner of the box. 2. for cans, I find the seam in the label and move just to the left of it. I will move the can instead of the phone to locate the barcode. 3. On a spray can, there may not be a seam, so I turn the sprayer about 180 degrees and start at the bottom of the can. This just happened to me yesterday, but I found the barcode quickly. 4. A bottle may have 2 labels on it (one in front; one in back) Usually the smaller of the 2 labels will be the back one. Again, I go to the bottom of the label and start from there. I found that moving the object instead of the phone has increased my ability to find the barcodes. In the future I may purchase a laser barcode scanner, but at this time I don't need it. HTH. Let's see if I can be concise and give you some tips. 1. for boxes, I locate the top flap as if I would open it, and then turn it upside down and try the left corner of the box. 2. for cans, I find the seam in the label and move just to the left of it. I will move the can instead of the phone to locate the barcode. 3. On a spray can, there may not be a seam, so I turn the sprayer about 180 degrees and start at the bottom of the can. This just happened to me yesterday, but I found the barcode quickly. 4. A bottle may have 2 labels on it (one in front; one in back) Usually the smaller of the 2 labels will be the back one. Again, I go to the bottom of the label and start from there. I found that moving the object instead of the phone has increased my ability to find the barcodes. In the future I may purchase a laser barcode scanner, but at this time I don't need it. HTH. I too have an old ID Omni Mate, but I only use it when I have extreme difficulty finding the barcode with Digit-Eyes. Remember, the camera on the iPhone is not multi-directional, which will make it more time comsuming to find.
