RE: [BlindTech] Recommendations For A Printer for routine printing

2018-11-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sometimes yes, sometimes it could even be more. Most printers come with a small
toner cartridge and you can then buy a regular sized one and in many cases an
XL size is offered. If all you need to do is print text and you buy a Laser
printer which can only print black then a large toner cartridge will last you
for a very long time, some of them do something like 10,000 pages.

Thanks much, Sieghard, how much is its replacement toner? About the same price
as the printer itself?
Thanks!

The same can be said for HP and probably Canon. I have always been partial to
HP printers and I completely agree that one should only get a colour printed if
absolutely necessary, also if you don't need a colour printer you absolutely
should get a Laser printer and not an inkjet printer. OK, this last comment
applies more if you print very infrequently. I recently replaced my HP Laserjet
1012 which I bought probably around 2002 or 2003 with an HP Laserjet Pro M102W.
It cost less than $100 on Amazon and it's a nice little printer, I just need
this one in my office primarily for printing cheques and the occasional
document, but I have a larger OfficeJet which can do colour if I print more.
This M102W can not do automatic duplex printing, for my usage that is OK, but
if it was my main printer I would never buy one which can't do that.

I do not know if they have different model numbers in different countries, but
I know their models change from time to time; more often than I would have
thought.
I'll have my sighted wife take a look and see if she thinks it is the same
basic printer or at least very similar. I really like Brother printers. They
last a long time and are generally trouble free, very fast, etc.

If you want the option for double sided printing and wireless, make sure DW is

different way of designating both duplex or double sided printing and wireless.

Re: [BlindTech] Recommendations For A Printer for routine printing

2018-11-10 Thread Richard Turner
It does not look like that is a wireless printer.
Look for DW in the model.
The HLL2350DW says it is compact, but has the 250 sheet paper tray. It is
showing the price in Canada as $165.44.
They recommend buying a toner cartridge at the same time as the one that comes
with it has not a lot of capacity.
HTH,
Richard

Re: [BlindTech] Recommendations For A Printer for routine printing

2018-11-10 Thread Richard Turner
I personally find if I do not plan to ever print in color, a black and white
printer is much less expensive in the long run because the toner is less
expensive.
The Brother may be able to be set up by a blind person, I just didn't try it
since my wife is the one who uses the printer the most.
