RE: Accessible GPS apps and bread crumbs

2023-03-15 Thread Jeff Samco
Several years ago I tried out MyWay Light. As I recall, one can set bread crumb
points and name them as one wishes. Then one can select any named point and get
directions and, if I recall correctly, distance to that location. I think
holding the phone flat and pointed ahead then tells you the compass direction
to turn to for proper orientation. I’m probably off in some details but it
seemed very useful and simple at the time. I don’t know what the “light”
version has for limitations, perhaps it is the number of points one can store.
Hopefully it’s still in the App Store.

Jeff

Re: Accessible GPS apps and bread crumbs

2023-03-16 Thread 'Sandy Tomkins' via VIPhone
this sounds like a perfect job for NaviLens! The app is free and it works with QR codes specially adapted to be easily easily found by your phone. The codes are free, but do need to be printed from an email attachment. if they are to be used outside, and it sounds like they would, they should be either laminated or printed onto vinyl paper, also readily available from the net. T this might sound like a bit of extra work, and it may be that your friend would need some help getting set up, but these codes are really reliable and absolutely accurate I use them, I don't have 60 acres I only have one, but it's enough to get lost in and there are drop offs and stairs outside, so I like to use these to give me nice landmarks and indications of where I am, they will also guide me to them if I need it. RE: Accessible GPS apps and bread crumbs

2023-03-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
60 acres is a pretty good size and compass would not give you the accuracy
needed. Marking all these points in a GPS app would be the only way, I believe
Good Maps Outdoors also lets you add custom points and you have something like
the old getting warmer function from the old Sendero Seeing Eye GPS

Several years ago I tried out MyWay Light. As I recall, one can set bread crumb
points and name them as one wishes. Then one can select any named point and get
directions and, if I recall correctly, distance to that location. I think
holding the phone flat and pointed ahead then tells you the compass direction
to turn to for proper orientation. I’m probably off in some details but it
seemed very useful and simple at the time. I don’t know what the “light”
version has for limitations, perhaps it is the number of points one can store.
Hopefully it’s still in the App Store.

HTH,

Jeff

Hi guys,

I’m trying to find an accessible GPS application for the iPhone that will
offer really easy to use bread crumb features for an older gentleman who is not
really tech savvy. He lives on a farm that is approximately 60 acres in size.
He needs an app in which he can navigate between specific landmarks on his
property and be given directions or indicators if he wanders astray. This would

This would
be, for example, reaching a water tower from his house or finding his way back
to his house from another part of his property.

If anyone can suggest a specific app that will fit the bill, please let me
know. Also, if one can give pointers that I can pass along to the person, I’d
appreciate that as well.

When all else fails I return to my good ole faithful “Ariadne GPS.” It does
one thing very well; direct you to a point of interest you have entered.
Initially you do not need the internet or a maps application. It will give you
direction an distance to a POI no matter where you are in the world. I believe
it costs around $20.

Hi Tom. I removed the original posts so I don’t know it you are responding to
my suggestion of “Ariadne GPS.” If you are, I use the app frequently and it’s

Hi Tom. I removed the original posts so I don’t know it you are responding to
my suggestion of “Ariadne GPS.” If you are, I use the app frequently and it’s
still available in the App Store. Since you can keep all of your POIs, I enjoy
going back and seeing how far that Bed and Breakfast is the time I went to
Rome, Italy.

Re: Accessible GPS apps and bread crumbs

2023-03-22 Thread Thom Spittle
Yes, I was talking about your post. I just checked in the App Store, and it was
there. Several years ago, it was not in the App Store, and they did not update
the app when Apple made a shift to the 64-bit programs. But all I had to do is
re-download, and my points of interest were there. At least a couple of them
were. Thanks for letting me know about this. I think it will be a great
replacement for Soundscape.

 Hi guys,
I’m trying to find an accessible GPS application for the iPhone that will
offer really easy to use bread crumb features for an older gentleman who
is not really tech savvy. He lives on a farm that is approximately 60
acres in size. He needs an app in which he can navigate between specific
landmarks on his property and be given directions or indicators if he
wanders astray. This would be, for example, reaching a water tower from
his house or finding his way back to his house from another part of his
 property.

If anyone can suggest a specific app that will fit the bill, please let
