Would you please tell me where can I find it? Is it from Microsoft as the

Soundscape is really best used with bone conduction headphones since it speaks
the streets and points of interest out of the side the street or building is on.
For example, where I live, there are lots of places where streets do not go
through the intersection directly, but might be a half a block apart where the
cross street continues.
So, if you are walking down the street you might hear 31st ave out of the
leftear. Walk a bit further and you might hear 31st ave out of the right ear.
That information is confusing if you are not wearing headphones and you don’t
want to be earing headphones unless they are bone conduction so your ears are
open to hearing the traffic, people etc.

GoodMaps Explorer does do outdoors. I just installed it and looked at POIs from
inside my bedroom. It seemed accurate about what I know is around me. I like
its tabs at the bottom of the screen; they make sense to me. It is a free
download. Not sure if its maps are on line or are part of the download, though
the download was fast so I conjecture that maps are online and not downloaded.
Will share more after I have used it outside.

A caviat about indoor maps for this application: someone has to map a space by
walking around it with a backpack of equipment. I saw two places that had
indoor maps within five miles of me: American Printing House for the Blind and
the McDowell Rehabilitation Center, the state rehab facility for persons with
visual impairments. Although the maps do not rely on installation of beacons or
other hardware that must be maintained and powered , they do require someone
with requisite equipment to walk around the space on all floors and then there
are three more steps in making the maps. It is a good idea, but indoor mapping
may be limited by how many facilities want to pay to be mapped and how many
backpacks of equipment are floating around the country to be used to get the
first level of map data.

On the plus side, this company is offering other applications of this
technology, e.g., first responders. I would think such data could also be
useful in coal mines when miners need to get out fast and can’t see because of
smoke from a fire. Many facilities might be inclined to pay for initial map
making for use in emergencies. This data would also make indoor maps for
GoodMaps Explore.

There is a feedback section in the helps within the app where you can write
them and they actually respond if that doesn't work I'll find the email I used.

They need to know about this because they're using foursquare for their points
of interest and that's highly unreliable in my opinion.

They're looking at using Apple Maps I believe for points of interest.

It is designed to take advantage of indoor navigation if it is available, but

If you just want turn-by-turn directions either walking or driving, Google Maps
is very good.

If you want something that will tell you about the streets you are crossing,
and points of interest nearby, Lazarillo is very good and free.

It can also give you walking turn-by-turn directions within the app, or can
launch Google Maps and it will still give you information about the streets.

I find the Points of Interest a little too distracting, so I turn off the
explore mode which is on by default when you launch Lazarillo. It is a button
at the top of the screen so easy to get to and turn off.

If you want something that will tell you about the streets you are crossing,

It can also give you walking turn-by-turn directions within the app, or can

I find the Points of Interest a little too distracting, so I turn off the

There is a feedback section in the helps within the app where you can write
them and they actually respond if that doesn't work I'll find the email I used.
They need to know about this because they're using foursquare for their points
of interest and that's highly unreliable in my opinion.
They're looking at using Apple Maps I believe for points of interest.

can somehow be set to give more street information.Good Maps Explore or Nearby

directions with providing the street information Be aware that Points of

RE: Any recommendation about gps for iPhone?

2020-09-25 Thread terrieter

Best,

Terrie Terlau

Christine,In my opinion, Apple Maps is harder to use with VoiceOver, though it
can somehow be set to give more street information.Good Maps Explore or Nearby
Explorer online, are the best two free apps that will combine turn-by-turn
directions with providing the street information Be aware that Points of
Interest are only as accurate as the digital map data, and depending on the
source, it can be several years out off date.

It can also give you walking turn-by-turn directions within the app, or can

Another app, called Goodmaps Explore, which is from a company created by APH,
Goodmaps Inc, just came out this month I believe, or certainly in the last
couple of months.
You can read more about it here: https://www.goodmaps.com/
It is free, and will show up on your device as Explore.

hello reta,

another free and easy to use GPS app is Nearby Explorer Online. the awesome
advantage to this app is everything is switchbuttons, which are on the main
screen of this app. it does turn-by-turn, and tells you about more than just
the streets you cross. Heading, street name, street number, how fast you're
going, and much more. it uses Open Street Map or Apple Maps for your address
and search provider. it works great and is updated often. if you want help with
this app, email me at daniel.angus.macdon...@gmail.com for help off list. skype:

RE: Any recommendation about gps for iPhone?

2020-09-24 Thread Richard Turner
Yes.

Richard
"He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass
himself,” and we forget that only grace can break the cycle of ancient hatreds
among peoples. (It is notable that while I have regretted not granting grace to
others, I’ve never once regretted extending it.)" - Edward Herbert
