RE: Apple TV 4 remote

2016-01-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Probably something we should report to Apple Accessibility. I very much like
the fact that I can just pick up my one little remote, push a button to wake up
the Apple TV and my TV also turns itself on.

This was happening to me too until I made one adjustment. I went into settings,
then to remote and devices and flicked down to Home Theater Control and set
that to off. Now my TV does not come on randomly.

I usually don’t turn off my Apple TV or, I guess, it would be more accurate to
say that I don’t manually put it in sleep mode. Usually I just turn off our
Sony TV. A few days ago I did this and an hour later or so when I was already
in bed and my wife was sleeping I suddenly heard the Apple TV come to life in
the living room and start speaking rather loudly. Our bedroom door was open and
it’s not that far away, fortunately my wife is usually a deep sleeper. Anyhow,
I went to the TV and used Light Detector to check and sure enough, the TV was
on because if the Apple TV wakes up the TV turns itself on. This is usually a
nice feature, but certainly not something one would want to happen randomly.
Anyhow, I turned the TV off and I know it was off because I did it on the
on/off button on top of the TV itself and Light Detector indicated there was no
more light coming from the screen. I went back to bed and then maybe around 4
am Voiceover started blaring again and it started reading the title and
description of the moview we watched that night. I ran over there to shut it up
and of course my TV was back on. I have a Sonos Playbar connected to the
optical audio out of the TV so unless the TV comes on it doesn’t work. I turned
it off again, but now I also turn off Voiceover when we are done using it, my
wife doesn’t need it anyways and this way at least it is not going to wake us
up in themiddle of the night. Hopefully this will get fixed, but of course if
you have automatic updates turned on then maybe this would cause the Apple TV
to wake up and hence the main TV wakes up.
