RE: Bird Identification App

2021-10-22 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
I hadn’t actually provided them with an email address yet, so I didn’t know
they had a video. The app seems fairly intuitive so far.

Once you have a pack, you should see a button that says “sound id”. Double tap
on that, and then double tap on the “microphone” button if you want to record a
bird call to be identified. I have found that it may help to point the phone’s
microphone toward where you are hearing the bird. Double tap stop when you are
done. Then you can see what matches the app found. If you double tap on the
“supported birds” button, there is a list of birds, which if you tap on one,
you get a description and can play a sample of their call.

I do see now that it isn’t letting me into the app without entering an email
address, so I will see what email I get from them. For some reason, it hadn’t
been forcing me to enter an email address until now. No big deal though.

There should be a get button if you swipe right from the name of the pack. I
had Southeast United States, United States and Canada, and then all, going from
left to right. VoiceOver should speak that it is a get button. You can track
the progress and the page in the app will let you know your progress and when
it is installed.

I haven’t actually used the app yet.

The Cornell Lab of Ornothology, who sponsors the app, has started sending me
emails. One includes a video about how to use the app, but I assume it is
oriented to the sighted. We’ll see ow helpful it is.

Hi,all. I got the Merlin Bird app at yur recommendation, Pam. I got the
Southeast U. S. Pack as you probably did, and then added the U. S. And Canada
pack as I might travel.
This should be interesting to see how this goes.
I am on the other side of Florida from you, Pam, on the Atlantic in Daytona
Beach. Whereabouts on the gulf are you?

Hi,

I have been trying to find a good bird id app without much success until now.

I heard about the Merlin Bird Id app and have been trying it out, and so far I
am quite pleased with it.

They have packs that you can download of birds in different geographical areas.
So far, I have just downloaded the one for my area to try it out. It actually
has identified some birds which other apps were not able to id. They had
recently added the ability to identify birds from you recording the bird call
you are hearing. They also list the common birds in your area, and if you
choose one, you can hear a recorded bird call that someone has contributed to
the app.

So far, I am impressed, especially compared to some of the other apps I have
tried. I just wanted to pass this along in case anyone is interested.

Pam

RE: Bird Identification App

2021-10-19 Thread Richard Turner
Thanks Pam,
A friend has been looking for a good bird ID app.
This one looks perfect. Best of all, it is free.
In case anyone is having trouble finding it, here is the link:
