RE: Fleksy Self-Marketing
My concern with that is if it can't be turned off somewhere in the app's settings, anyone who decides to send an email of a professional nature using it will make themselves look very bad. It doesn't look professional from an employer perspective, or in the least bit cute; never mind nobody's going to know what in hell a Fleksy is. I won't get started on professional looking email addresses because that wasn't the point of this topic, but I'll just say that this goes hand in hand with that... I do think it showing your phone number could very well have to do with the setting that speaks to communicating with other fleksy users. I believe, but am not sure, that if you disable that option in settings, it might not show your phone number... I don't know if it also disables its ill attempt at marketing/self promotion as well. But that was my first thought... A huge turn off unless that can be disabled. The technology is neat, and Apple will steel it some day and implement such an auto correct system, and when it does, it will be fabulous! IMO there needs to be such an auto correct with the iPhone, without the added annoyance of having to be dependent on another app to get it; especially not one with such a price tag. I do recognize however that with the development that went into the app, that such a price point from a business perspective would have been more than necessary in order to make some profit off what would have been a very hefty development cost. RE: Fleksy Self-Marketing
Hi Neil, Amy and Rob, At this point the Typed with Fleksy is not something you can turn off in the Settings for the app. The word Fleksy is actually a link to the app store page for Fleksy and I agree that the developers should either remove this or make it an option which can be turned on or off. For right now the only way to get rid of it is to delete it manually from the email once you are in the mail app which of course partially offsets the time saving effect you get from faster typing. As far as Rob's comment about the Sent from my iPhone, yes, that is the default signature, but if you don't want to advertise the fact that your mobile device is an iPhone all you have to do is go to the mail settings and delete the signature line or replace it with something like Sent from my mobile device or, if you are using a business account, with your business name and contact information. As for the email link, this you can easily avoid simply by not filling out the email field with your address. I certainly would not want a link in my business email which includes my personal address in that way and, by the way, if you click on it from within Windows it tells you that it does not know which program to use and asks if you want to search the web. The good news is that it seems the developers are fairly responsive and I hope that if enough people request this that they will implement the signature as an option and, as I said, not filling out phone number and email solve the other issue and since putting in that information only serves the one purpose it certainly doesn't matter if you don't put it in. Re: Fleksy Self-Marketing
HI. can't the from fleksy stuff be deleted? I also believe if you simply copy the text and then paste it in to an email you don't get all that stuff. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. doesn't bother me all that much, not if it spreads the word and either makes sighted people aware of the technology, or lets a blind person who hasn't heard of the app hear about it. I agree with you about professional messages, which means i would then delete the fleksy stuff. Just some thoughts. Maria Chapman bubbygirl1...@gmail.com The weak can never forgive. RE: Fleksy Self-Marketing
Hi Mike, To you personally this may be a non issue, however, Neil and many others on this list including myself do use our iPhones for business/professional purposes and just as I accept your opinion regarding this you should understand that something like this has no place in a professional email. Neil stated that he would have no problem with this as long as there is an option to disable the promo sentence at the end and I agree since I don't think I should have to manually erase it in every email I write especially since for an app this one is definitely not on the cheap side. As for the link, this is already an option since filling in the phone number and email fields in the Fleksy settings has only one purpose as far as I can tell and that is to enable having that link there, so since I don't want it, I just don't put in that information. All we need now is a checkbox or an On/Off button for Include Typed by Fleksy signature. Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: Fleksy Self-Marketing
Hi Richard, Fleksy does not automatically include your phone number in an email, I assume it does in a text message which I haven't tried, but then of course if you send a text message the recipient has your phone number anyways. If you send an email and enter your email address it will include some sort of link at the end which doesn't actually reveal your email which once again is in the email header anyways, but if you tap that link on an iPhone it will open Fleksy straight away and let you type a reply. It is meant to facilitate things for other Fleksy users, but considering that out of many hundreds of personal and business contacts I have not even 1% maybe Fleksy users I find this feature rather unimportant and prefer not to confuse all those people who potentially get an email I typed with Fleksy on a computer or non iDevice mobile device. In any case, I think as far as I am concerned that topic is just about exhausted, I think anybody who wants the signature line to be an option should let the developers know directly since it seems they are quite responsive and hopefully they will implement this change down the road. RE: Fleksy Self-Marketing
That is why I copied the Fleksy folks with that Email. As I say, I have not bought Fleksy, so I won't be saying any more. In fact, I've deleted most of the messages with Fleksy in the subject and will continue to do so since I don't plan to buy Fleksy anytime soon. Enjoy, Richard -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, July 15, 2012 9:28 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Fleksy Self-Marketing Hi Richard, Fleksy does not automatically include your phone number in an email, I assume it does in a text message which I haven't tried, but then of course if you send a text message the recipient has your phone number anyways.
As someone who uses his phone for business this is not a ridiculous complaint. My emails are used to move large sums of money, and the emails must be extremely clear on instructions, so any erroneous text could potentially be detrimental to a transaction. I have to go back and strip the text out of any email that I send, so it totally negates any speed advantage Fleksy may provide. Therefore, I have paid my $15 for Fleksy, but I can not use it for business. I wrote the developer on day one and said we should have the option to remove any Fleksy related tag lines. I suggest you all do the same. Chuck I understand what you are saying but the developer has already come on list and said it is something they will be addressing in future updates which shows they are willing to listen to us. Re: Fleksy Self-Marketing
Hi Chuck. Does fleksy even put that link in when you copy and paste the text in to an email? If not, you could do business emails that way. I don't have fleksy as of yet so I'm just offering that as a maybe. On 2012-07-15, at 1:43 PM, Chuck Dean wrote: As someone who uses his phone for business this is not a ridiculous complaint. Re: Fleksy Self-Marketing
You have to copy And paste when replying to an email using fleksy if you want to keep a thread intact anyway. Just a thought. Re: Fleksy Self-Marketing
Hi Mathew, Yes , copying and pasting text works, but the time saved with Fleksy would be lost in this action. Hi Louise, I was addressing a specific person who said the complaint was ridiculous. Actually, this is a moot point for me,, as the IOS 5.0 bug has made my iPhone too unreliable to do trades. I am again anchored to my P C .
