RE: Good light detector for small L E D lights

2017-12-10 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Richard,

I downloaded and tried the Boop Light Detector. It seem to work real well. I
have a small L E D light on my headset when plugged and and Boop was able to
tell me it was on.

I will have to play with it some more but it seem to be quite good.

Thanks for sharing this information with me.

Have you tried Boop Light Detector?

It somewhat depends on how bright the lights are.

Maybe making sure the room light is off?

Boop light detector is free. So, no harm in trying.

Hi Richard,

My friend is wanting to see L E D lights down to about 1/8 inches in diameter.
This is the size that is on things like razors, chargers and other devices.

He has a small hand held light detector but it cost around $60. So I was
wondering if there were any light detector app that would work on those small L
E D lights.

sometimes, there can be more than 1 light, on a device.

there can be 1 light of a different colour, to indicate charging, and another
light of a different colour, to let you know, that charging is complete.

Well I was looking at things like my razor that when the L E D lights are on it
charging, then when they are off it done charging. Another one is when you
plug in a headset the little L E D light is on when it is charging. There are
numerous times when it would be handy if we had a way to check these things.

The problem with a phone app when examining small LED lights is that these
lights are usually very close together. Even if the light detector is built to
be very sensitive to light, usually the camera cannot distinguish one small
light from another if they are close together because, even when you hold the
phone very close to the light, the width of the camera's detection includes a
wider area than that of two lights very close to one another. There are light
detectors on the market such as the LumiTest from APH and other places which
has a tiny tip accessory and the detector that RNIB made (and hopefully still
makes) that have a very narrow detection point. You can distinguish tiny LED
lights that are close together wwith such detectors because their tips can
narrow the detection range to almost a pinpoint.

HTH.

Thinking out loud here...How about using a piece of duct tape to cover all but
1 light at a time? I realize this may not be possible if the display where the
lights are is smooth & the lights aren't slightly raised or recessed.

I assume if all else fails an app like Be My Eyes might be the best option
since a human helper can certainly help here and they could even let you know
the colour of the LED, whether it’s solid, blinking slowly, blinking rapidly
and s on. Mostly such little LED lights are on things like routers or other
electronic devices and the colour and state of the light might make a big
difference if you are trying to trouble shoot a problem.

2017-12-09 Thread Mr. Ed
Well I was looking at things like my razor that when the L E D lights are on it
charging, then when they are off it done charging. Another one is when you
plug in a headset the little L E D light is on when it is charging. There are
numerous times when it would be handy if we had a way to check these things.

RE: Good light detector for small L E D lights

2017-12-09 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Richard,

My friend is wanting to see L E D lights down to about 1/8 inches in diameter.
This is the size that is on things like razors, chargers and other devices.

He has a small hand held light detector but it cost around $60. So I was
wondering if there were any light detector app that would work on those small L
E D lights.

I’m not a programmer, so I have no idea how or if that is possible.

RE: Good light detector for small L E D lights

2017-12-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
While I agree that “borrowing” my wife’s eyes sometimes is best, I still
occasionally use the Light Detector app especially if I am the last one leaving
my retail store. Occasionally my staff will leave some lights on and while many
of them are florescent tubes which I can usually hear whether they are on, I
upgraded the downstairs lights last year entirely to LED fixtures and those
things are absolutely quiet as in 0 noise so here the light detector app comes
in handy especially on those switches where you can turn on a light on more
than one switch where the fact whether a switch is down may not mean the light
is off.

Sieghard

I often joke with my sighted wife that I made a trade of a greencard for her
pair of good working green eyes. The best light detector on the market for sure…
I’ve got a light detection app on my phone, but honestly can’t recall the last
time I used it.

I assume if all else fails an app like Be My Eyes might be the best option
since a human helper can certainly help here and they could even let you know
the colour of the LED, whether it’s solid, blinking slowly, blinking rapidly

The problem with a phone app when examining small LED lights is that these
lights are usually very close together. Even if the light detector is built to
be very sensitive to light, usually the camera cannot distinguish one small
light from another if they are close together because, even when you hold the
phone very close to the light, the width of the camera's detection includes a
wider area than that of two lights very close to one another. There are light
detectors on the market such as the LumiTest from APH and other places which

Re: Good light detector for small L E D lights

2017-12-09 Thread Donna
Being that LED lights are a lot brighter than the incondesent lights I feel
confident in assuming any light detector app would work. If you have tried I'd
be interested in knowing so.

RE: Good light detector for small L E D lights

2017-12-08 Thread Cristóbal
I often joke with my sighted wife that I made a trade of a greencard for her
pair of good working green eyes. The best light detector on the market for sure…

I’ve got a light detection app on my phone, but honestly can’t recall the last
time I used it.

That kind of an app probably costs more than he wants to spend, grin.
