In addition to Anna's information below, a three finger swipe left or right
will let you change between contracted and uncontracted braille. This comes in
handy sometimes because there are times you don't want to use contracted
braille.

Subject: Re: How should I set up braille screen input please
Hi Joshua,
There are two orientations for Braille Screen Input: Tabletop and Screen Away
mode. In tabletop mode, the keys are arranged like a Perkins brailler. In
Screen Away mode, you hold the phone between your palms with the screen facing
away from you. When you wrap your hands around the phone so you can touch the
screen, your left hand does dots 1, 2, and 3 in a column with 1 on the top, and
your right hand does dots 4, 5, and 6 in the same orientation. I like this mode
because my hands are more likely to stay in the same place than when I use
Tabletop mode, but I would recommend trying them both to see which you prefer.
You can set the default grade of braille from the
Settings/Accessibility/VoiceOver/Braille screen using the Onscreen Braille
Input setting.
When you are typing, flick right with one finger for Space and with two fingers
for Return. Flick left with one finger to delete a character and with two to
delete a word. The iPhone user guide includes all the commands, so check that
out as well. I hope that helps.
Best,
Anna
