RE: Instructions on how to set up Apple Card high-yield savings account

2023-04-21 Thread Alan Lemly
Well, that sucks and I wish I could convince Apple to make the Apple Card
available everywhere. I will, in the future, make sure if I post anything about
the Apple Card to include a disclaimer line that it does not apply to non-USA
subscribers.

Another year has gone by without Apple expanding Apple Card availability
outside the US

Another 12 months have gone by without Apple expanding Apple Card availability
outside the US, over three years after the service first launched in August
2019. Apple Card, created in partnership with investment banking company
Goldman Sachs, allows users to track spending and help manage bills within the
Wallet app on iOS – completely fee-free, and with lower interest rates compared
to traditional banks.

Users can make purchases using their Apple Card with Apple Pay on their iPhone,
iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac, or with the optional titanium Apple Card banking
card, which features no printed card number or security code, making it the
world’s most secure credit card.

Since its launch, Apple has kept Apple Card exclusive to customers in the US,
although at one point there were rumors that an international expansion was on
the table after

Apple acquired Credit Kudos, a UK open banking startup earlier this year,
suggesting the service could arrive in the UK, as well as the iPhone maker
receiving trademark approval for the name Apple Card in Canada in 2021,
although nothing ever came of the two developments.

The credit card industry works differently in the US than the rest of the
world. The fees companies charge to merchants whenever they take a card payment
are relatively low elsewhere compared to the US, making it hard for Apple to
offer the same Apple Card perks that it does in the US, such as Daily Cash
back. With there being no expansion to the availability of Apple Card over the
past three years, it seems like at least for now, Apple is happy with having
the service limited to users in the United States. There is no word from Apple
on if an international expansion is planned, but many users are hoping that the
New Year sees the iPhone maker expand the availability of the service beyond
Apple’s home country.

Hi Sieghard, Thanks for that clarification. I wasn't sure whether the savings account was a US only thing or not. Is the Apple Card itself available for those not in the USA? Alan Lemly Sent from my iPhoneOn Apr 20, 2023, at 11:49 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

Goldman Sachs Bank which issues the Apple Card began offering a high-yield Apple Card savings account yesterday 4/19/23. According to the below website, this account is currently paying a 4.15% APR or APY depending on your acronym of choice:

https://nr.apple.com/DH9l5p5Ab0

You can read about how any Apple Cash earned with your Apple Card is automatically deposited in this account at the above site. I thought the site was a bit lax in providing specific instructions on how to set up one of these accounts so
 I’m posting that below:

Open the Wallet app on your iPhone or iOS device and tap on “Apple Card.”
Tap the More button, then tap “Daily Cash.”
Tap “Set Up” next to “Savings,” and follow the onscreen instructions to the savings account application.

For those who already have Apple Cards, setting up this account took about 2 minutes. When following the above instructions, you have to provide your Social Security or taxpayer ID number and confirm that you are not subject to IRS backup
income tax withholding. More than likely, you already have a bank account attached to your Apple Card for paying it off and transferring funds between this external bank account and the high-yield savings account is very easy.

I hope the above information is helpful to anyone interested in this savings account.
