Re: My First Experience Using Apple Pay

2015-02-04 Thread Wayne Merritt
I used Apple Pay to pay for a replacement cable from within the Apple
Store app last weekend. It was one of the easiest purchases that I
have ever done. I have also used it at Subway. That was my first time
using it and I didn't realize I had to keep my thumb on the ID sensor,
so as a result my transaction took a little longer. Still, it was
quick and seemless. At one Subway location that I went to with my
wife, the clerk said their machine was broken or that they have had
problems with it. I don't know if this was true, but for what it's
worth, that store was not in the best of locations. The store that we
did use it at was in more of a populated and frequented area. I am
anxiously waiting for more fast food restaurants to get Appple Pay,
such as burger places, since we tend to frequent those.

I have discovered that in some places, such as the MacDonald's fast food
restaurant chain, many of the employees have no idea that they can, in fact,
 accept Apple Pay.

In other instances, say for example at Radio Shack, only one of the
terminals may have been setup for Apple Pay.

 So, I suggest that you first Google a list of stores accepting Apple Pay;
second, when you arrive at the store, find out from one of the employees if
you can actually use Apple Pay before you begin your transaction.

 Mark,

How were you aware that apple pay was available at that particular location.
Do you just have to try and see if it works? I've been curious, as a blind
person, how can I know if a particular machine will work with apple pay? Do
I just randomly wave my phone over machines and hope for the best. LOL!

 Hello Everyone,

Today, I decided to use Apple Pay via the Passbook app on my 6 Plus.

One of the companies that has already signed onto the Apple Pay train,
as it were, is Panera Bread, a fast-casual restaurant that just
happens to be one of my most favorites as, in my opinion, their coffee is
 second to none.

So, before going to the restaurant, I opened up the Passbook app and
elected to use the credit card already on file with Apple. Part of
this process includes verifying the use of the card, with the Passbook
 app, itself.

In my case, I was given two methods of verifying the card. I could (1)
download a company-branded wallet app or (2) call the credit card
company and verify my information with a representative.

As I am an app minimalist, I decided to call the company. After
authorizing Passbook with the credit card company, I received a
notification on the phone that the credit card had been authorized and
was now ready for use with Passbook.

 Two more things to note:
 1.
I have Passbook setup for use via cell signal and 2.
I have authorized Touch ID for use with the Passbook app.

After doing all of this. I went into the restaurant and ordered some
 coffee.

After the cashier rang up my order, with the phone locked and the
display off, I simply placed my finger on the Touch ID/Home button and
waved the phone just above The transaction terminal (where a sighted
person would swipe a credit card and/or sign her/his name. As I did
this, as the phone passed over the terminal, the screen came on displaying
 the passbook app.
At approximately the same time, the phone vibrated once and the
transaction was complete. It took less than 5 seconds from the time I
placed my finger on the Touch ID/home button while passing the phone
over the terminal to when the vibration was felt.

Very, very, very impressive, to say the least.

I only hope more businesses will begin using Apple Pay.

Please note that I have no store-specific apps installed on my 6 Plus.

Just a thought, but if possible, I would call before going there. And,
after all, if it isn't available, you can still use your card.

It would be, provided one could get a fingerprint, so far none of my fingers
