RE: October 18 Apple Event

2021-10-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Here in Canada we were around Par with the USD and for a short time the CAD was
actually worth more than the USD around 2008
But 7 or so years before that 1 USD was over $1.60 CAD and now we are around
$1.25 to $1.30 CAD for 1 USD.
It's all relative anyways, the CAD is worth less, but people also earn more
here in Canadian Dollars. I think some US states have a minimum wage, but I
don't think all of them do. Here in British Columbia minimum wage as of this
June is $15.20 which currently is equivalent to approx. $12.30 USD. That is
what I have to pay, for example, a 15 or 16-year old high school kid for which
it might be their first job and of course if they are not a student under 18
who don't make much in terms of employment insurance and Canada Pension Plan
then there are additional costs on top of that for me for those things. Now,
don't get me wrong, I am not saying this is wrong because after all, if
somebody does work a minimum wage job and that is their main income and they
work full time which means around 2000 or 2100 hours a year this means they
make around $31,000 a year give or take a bit which is barely enough if you
have to pay rent, eat and have a few other costs especially if you live in an
expensive city like Vancouver or Toronto. But even in my small little northern
town a 1-bedroom apartment or basement suite is easily $1,000 to $1,200 a month
and in other places you are lucky if you find one for $1,500.

After all, an iPhone which costs $1,000 US costs 50,000 or 60,000 in the

Yes, I did listen to it now, not sure, but I think maybe the first 10 or 15

Airpods sound interesting, but I still don't like the very expensive price. On

they are at least $249 here or maybe $259 to $279 Canadian, add to that our

Yeah, agreed,

And that seems to be the big problem now is that most things have been done /
created
So they need to be designing / redesigning the products to better utilise the
available services.

Such as how do they put the M1 in to an iPhone or Ipad not pro!

Get in to the fashion side of things like glasses along the lines of the bose
frames,
But again these things have been done,
So they need to do it better

I for one would love a set of apple glasses if it gave me the same result /
functionality as the frames I have.

And that’s only one thing.

They did announce a new third generation set of Airpods and the new voice only
Apple Music subscription, but yes, not exactly stuff for a Wow experience, but
then again you can't expect them all that much any more with devices and
services which are mature and which for the most part are not new inventions or
ground-breaking new technologies.

The sound system on the 14 and 16 inch mbp’s sounds pretty empressive,

Can’t wait to have a look at the pricing.

Other than that I can’t really see what they needed a presentation for,

None of the music / airpods etc really seemed new.

I am surprised that I didn't find a single message tonight about this morning's
Apple Event. I didn't have time yet to listen, but saw a few headlines about
new Airpods, HomePods with new colours, better SIRI integration with Apple
Music and a new "voice only" subscription for Apple Music in addition to the
personal and family plans. This one apparently is only $4.99 US a month and
gives you access to all 90 Million songs Apple has plus all their curated
playlists, any idea how this is different from a regular subscription? Does it
mean you can't open the music app and find music this way or maybe you can play
anything, but can't add anything to your library or download it?

The rest apparently was all Mac related which is of no interest to me as a
Windows/PC user.

Yes, I did listen to it now, not sure, but I think maybe the first 10 or 15
minutes were about Apple Music and the new Airpods. These latest generation 3
Airpods sound interesting, but I still don't like the very expensive price. On
the one hand I'd love to try a set but then again I really don't know if I want
to spend whatever the Canadian price will be, $179 US will most likely mean
they are at least $249 here or maybe $259 to $279 Canadian, add to that our
combined 12% taxes in British Columbia and it will be a $300 or just over $300
set of earbuds. I have tons of points from my credit card and could easily buy
a pair this way, but there is still something which makes me think not twice
but thrice about spending that much on two little things I stick in my ear
especially since I don't really like to stick things into my ear canal and
probably wouldn't use them when I am going back and forth to my store every
day. And there are so many other things I can spend money on! We just bought a
new fridge and I'd love to get new kitchen cabinets and inf act I'd love to
take our bedroom and combine it with a small one next door for a larger master
bedroom and then to combine the third upstairs guest room with our living room
and on my list of long-term plans goes.

Sieghard,
I think you didn't see any messages about the presentation because it was
boring.
That is, unless you are majorly into Mac computers, which I am not.
They actually did a comparison with what they called a high-end Compact PC to
demonstrate the far better performance of the Mac laptop especially on battery
life and overall speed and energy usage.
I heard no prices, but I was admittedly not giving it my whole attention.
I was just curious.
It sounds like the Siri Apple music subsccription can only be accessed by voice.
That is all they specified.

RE: October 18 Apple Event

2021-10-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Fazil, go to Apple.com and listen to the announcement, most o the keynote was
about Mac, but in a nutshell they mostly talked about a couple of new Mac Book
Pro laptops with a new M1 Pro and M1 Max processor,, the new "Apple silicon" as
rthey call it shows how they are moving away from Intel processors towards the
processors designed in-house which apparently are quite innovative and
powerful. I now listened to the event and even to the Mac part even though I
use Windows, what they say is impressive, but what I noticed again and again is
that these new Pro laptops are designed for professionals like people who work
all the time with huge graphic files and video files, people who design games,
do animation, fancy video editing and also music production. At one point Tim
Cook even said that these are what all the "Pros" want or those "who simply
want the best" or something along these lines. These are quite expensive
laptops which in Canada will be probably around $3,000 to $4,000 and they are
not what the average consumer will buy.

Take care,
Sieghard
