Re: Podcast Apps?

2019-05-27 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hello. I prefer Downcast. Both Downcast and Overcast are of high
quality and seem to be the top preferred apps among blind users.
Overcast is free and Downcast cost a few dollars. I like the layout of
Downcast which lists my unplayed podcasts at the top and my played
podcasts at the bottom of the ap's screen. In Downcast, you can make
global settings, and podcast specific settings. For example, my
default speed to play podcasts is 1.25X, but a music podcast that I am
subscribed to plays at normal speed. There are many other things I
like about Downcast. You can set Downcast to display and keep up to 20
unplayed podcasts, or to keep everything. I have had it set to keep
everything, which means that daily podcasts can get well into the
hundreds of unplayed episodes. I've tried Overcast a few times and
find myself going back to Downcast, but they're both great apps. Try
them and see which you like.

Good luck,
Wayne

I agree with Alan.
And yes, you can access past podcasts if the podcast itself makes them
available, which all I have tried have their whole history of podcasts
available.

Re: Podcast Apps

2018-10-29 Thread Lynn White
Is there a podcast app that would work with both the iPhone and Applt TV? I
love Overcast but it’s not available for Apple TV. So, I’m still stuck with
the Apple podcast app because of TV. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,
Not really. I have an app that is a weather app called Overcast. That's right a
weather app called Overcast. The one thing is they have not updated it to the
64 bit so when I update it will be unusable.

Downcast, but depending on what you're looking for, it may be enough.
Overcast is a very solid choice. I simply prefer what Downcast offers.
Icatcher was an app that I also used when I first started getting into

killer for me was that it maxed out at 2X playback speed. The dev said that

It also has a voice boost feature that often compensates very nicely for

you create an account, and the account keeps track of which podcasts you are

Re: Podcast apps

2017-10-09 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Nancy,

I like Overcast because it has great options for listening quickly. Not only is
the audio clear when you speed it up, but there's a "Smart speed" feature that
removes unnecessary pauses, thus speeding up the listening even more. It also
has a voice boost feature that often compensates very nicely for variations in
the volume of a podcast. You can stream or download episodes, and you can
easily delete the ones you don't want. When you first log in, you create an
account, and the account keeps track of which podcasts you are subscribed to.
If the Apple Podcasts app has the ability to export an OPML file, which lists
all the podcasts you are subscribed to, you can import that into any other
podcast app.

Best,
Anna
