Sorry about that, but that's a good point. Not sure I've ever had a backlit

Presuming no RGB or backlighting, that's true for a good many keyboards. You
don't need to spend big bucks for very long battery life. However, looking at
the longevity time difference between when lighting is used and turned off,
it's very drastic. I recently read about a keyboard which could last ten months
without the lighting being turned on or fifteen days with lighting activated
and used. My Keychron keyboard is similar. I can get around 100 hours with the
lighting turned off. However, that drops to around 34 hours with the lighting
used. My keyboard is a compact low profile design so it has a smaller battery.
However, I think it still serves to illustrate the potential problem of
dramatically overestimating the charge remaining and not realizing that your
lighting is on. RGB lighting effects can cut down your batteries even more than
backlighting. For many people with sight, such lighting seems to be very
desirable despite the power tradeoff. For people like me who are totally blind,
the lighting is a liability.

It all depends on what keyboard you're using. Some Bluetooth keyboards don't
report their battery status to the battery widget on your iPhone. Also, there
are things like the size of battery your keyboard has and whether backlighting
or RGB lighting is used. These factors can change how long you can go between
having to charge your keyboard. Typically, keyboards which feature backlighting
or RGB lighting will have keyboard commands to turn that lighting off to save
tons of power. It can make a massive difference. You can usually find the
manual for your keyboard online and discover the command in therre or often by
reading or listening to reviews of your keyboard. You could then get sighted
assistence to let you know if the lighting is disabled. The Be My Eyes app or
FaceTime would be good for this. Once I'm aware of the needed key command, I've
been able to use the light detecting function in Seeing AI to tell whether my
keyboard lighting is off. It's easier to tell if your keyboard and iPhone are
in a darker place.
In the best case, your keyboard will report its battery level to iOS and you
can use the battery widget to check its current level. It can also indicate
when your keyboard is charging. Remember that you can change the order of the
widgets on your today view and move the battery widget to the top.
With keyboards which don't report their battery level, you could use an app
like Aira to get sighted assistance in checking the battery level. You'd need
to read about how your keyboard indicates the level of charge. It's usually
done via status lights. Other than that, good charging habits are what you'll
need. What I tend to do is to have an external power bank with me and plug my
keyboard and iPhone into it while I work. That way, only the power bank drains
and you're keyboard will remain topped up. This way, I just need to remember to
charge the power bank regularly. If you don't like the idea of having the
cables around all the time, then you should probably plug your keyboard in
every few days or so. That way, it will be ready if circumstances prevent you
from doing this. Hope that helps.

I believe you can use tab as well to go from the “To” field to the message

You would use the Keyboard commands that match flicking right to get into the
body of the message, and then to double tap to turn the message box into an
editing field and then the enter key will send it. If you want to put in a
hard return in your message you have to press options+enter because just
hitting enter sends it.
The command to essentially flick right with one finger is control+options+right
arrow.
To double tap is control+options+spacebar.

RE: Question about Bluetooth keyboard

2022-06-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain
If you're just doing this occasionally then Richard's instructions are the
simplest and most intuitive. If however, you're using your Bluetooth keyboard
more and more, you may want to use quick nav. With quick nav you can just use
the arrow keys and don't have to use the VO keys.

So for example, you toggle quick nav on and off by holding down the left and
right arrow keys at the same time. In your example, after typing in the
recipients, you hit right+left-arrow to toggle on quick nav and then you'd
right arrow until you get to the body of the message. At that point, you'd hit
up+down-arrow to exit quick nav and edit the body of your message.

This isn't a good example, but if you're reviewing your list of messages then
using quick nav, will be a big time saver.

You should charge it using your Apple wall plug or any other USB wall adapter.
A PC delivers a very small amount of power and while it may charge the

Re: Question about Bluetooth keyboard for iPhone

2016-04-14 Thread englishrider91
Though this is less important now than it once was, you may still want to look
for a bluetooth keyboard with control and option keys. These keys are used
(though there are ways to do most things without them) for VoiceOver commands.
You can now assign the caps-lock key to the VO keys. You are also going to want
arrow keys and a command key.

Lots of people on this list seem to like the Logitech K810 or K811. I can't
remember the differences between them, but I'm sure someone who knows about
both of them will respond. People also like the Logitech Keys to Go, the Amazon
Basics Bluetooth Keyboard, and the Anker bluetooth steyboard.

A good place to learn about bluetooth keyboards that people have used with VO
is on the accessories page of applevis.com. I think there was a series of
podcasts produced on using a bluetooth keyboard with VO on AppleVis. I hope
this helps you.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Question about Bluetooth keyboard

2015-03-20 Thread Eve
Hi,

That happened a couple of times to me in previous updates, but not with this
particular one. I would just have to reboot the phone everything was back
to normal.

 Hi,
I am using an Iphone 6 with latest update. Have noticed since the most
recent update that when using my Anker keyboard, I am getting double letters.
  Is this a known issue?
 Thanks.
