Hi.

I gave my Girlfriend my old iPhone X. We went to the Apple Store to have it
wiped. When she got home, she tried to send a text to her Brother. He has an
Android. It didn’t work. I had her turn on SMS and MMS on her iPhone, and she
can send texts to him. I don’t think SMS is just for Androids, because it was
used in the 90’s, when pagers and flip phones were the thing.

Just what I know.

I’m confused. SMS is a cellular protocol. Unless you’re using an app supported
on both platforms, I’m not sure how you can send a text message b between and
iPhone and an Android phone. As far as I know, Apple Messages doesn’t have a
corresponding app in the Android ecosystem.

You absolutely do not need a cell signal to send a text between Apple and
Android. You simply need to be sure send as SMS is on under the message
settings.

RE: Question about text messages

2022-08-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
SMS isn’t just for Androids. Like I said, it’s a cellular protocol, so it’ll
work on any cell phones that support text messages, like old Nokia phones
running Symbian, flip phones and so on ... Unless you’re using an app like
Facebook Messenger, Google What’s App, Apple’s Messages … then you’re probably
using SMS. Of course, Apple Messages supports SMS as well as iMsg. I’m not
aware of any app on Android that supports Apple’s iMsg, so if you’re sending
text messages from an Apple phone to an Android phone with Apple Messages then
it seems to me that it must be going over a cellular connection at some point.

RE: Question about text messages

2022-08-19 Thread Kevin Minor

RE: Question About Text Messages

Probably because those options are only for iMessages.

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in
learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."

Subject: Question About Text Messages

When sending text messages, I don't get any choices of predictive messages to
send when replying to someone as I do when replying to IMessages. Is there a
reason for this? Is there something I should change in settings?
