It's clunky at best, if you haven't updated yet and you use your Sonos app a
lot I would highly recommend that you wait to see what happens in 2 weeks. I
told my Sonos contact that the ball is now in their court and they better make
sure the promises they made about major accessibility improvements on May 21
and more by end of June will happen.

Hi Sieghard. I also was able to check for a firmware update and found that
there was none. After playing around with the app, I was able to locate most
everything within the app. I certainly agree that the app needs some big
accessibility improvements. However, for me, I find it quite useable. I
originally updated the app on my iPad. Earlier today, I updated the app on my
iPhone 15 pro Max, running IOS 17.5 RC. You have to swipe quite a bit because
touching the screen does absolutely nothing. It tells me that true play is off
no matter how many times I tap to change the option. However, I know that it is
changing because I can hear the change in the sound from the speaker that is
playing. Also, My sighted wife says that the icon changes. I hope Sonos
address the VoiceOver accessibility issues sooner rather than later. But for
me, The app is useable.

RE: Sonos latest update.

2024-05-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Thanks Larry, I had already noticed the fact that if I use the gesture to go to
the very bottom and swip eback I see my speakers/rooms, but with all these
strange buttons and images I hadn't figured out yet which one to tap. Let's
hope that the May 21 update we are being told includes a lot of accessibility
improvements will address a lot of this especially the fact that right now you
have to swipe everywhere and can't find anything buy simply touching the
screen. I also found that if you do what yiou describe and are not careful, you
easily end up a the top again so if you have a number of speakers and lose your
place you then have to start all over again with the gesture to go to the
bottom and swipe 10 or 15 times to get one of your speakers near the top of the
list etc.
I am definitely not updating my Sonos app on the iPhone until this gets a lot
better, but you really have to be careful bvecause not just do you have to pay
attention that you don't accidently or by habit tap on "Update All", but when I
opened the old Sonos app last night I was also presented with a screen touting
the new update and I had to dismiss it before I could use the app and the
"Update" bvutton was right next to the "Dismiss" button so one can easily tap
the wrong thing.

Hi Sieghard. I have found a couple of ways to do this. I guess the easiest way
if you can call it that is to: When you open the Sonos app, do a 4 finger
single tap on the bottom of the screen. Once you are at the bottom of the
screen, start swiping back. Now because you are swiping back, You are going to
see things related to the room before you see the name of the room itself. For
example, when I start swiping back, I see something like volume small. I then
see what is playing Tim Mcgraw, live like you were dying. Swipe again and I see
the play button. I keep swiping until I see the room name. If I know what room
I’m in based on the song, I only swipe back until I hear speakers. If you
double tap speakers, the app will then bring up a list of your rooms. You then
swipe to the room you want to add. After the room name, It will say something
like circlecheck. Double tap that and continue this until all rooms you want is
selected. At the bottom there is an apply button.
As I stated in my previous email, there is a lot of swiping required for this
new app. This needs to be addressed by the Sonos team sooner rather than later.
There are other accessibility issues that has to be fixed also. I guess my hope
is that those who can use this app will do so. That way, issues can be found
and reported to Sonos. If Sonos cares about all of their customers, including
The blind community, They will hear us and fix these issues. I have over $7,000
invested in Sonos products and growing.

Just curious, but how do you select a particular room or speaker to play music
on? I was able to access the system settings no problem, but I have had little
success selecting a particular room and then select for example my Apple Music
subscription to find a particular artist, album or playlist. I actually don't
even use Sonos all that much, my sighted wife does more, but until I can
reliably select where I want to play whatever music I want to play, I won't
update my iPhone.

Re: Sonos latest update.

2024-05-08 Thread Larry Smith

2024-05-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Larry, I just replied to another message of Richard's, but just in case you
didn't see o rread it entirely, it does not appear that this app update comes
with a hardware update or requires one. I updated the Sonos app on our iPad
last night and then did a manual check for updates in the new Sonos app and I
was told that my system was up to date. This app update seems to be all about a
new look and user interface and not about new capabilities of the system.

Richard, did you update both Sonos firmware and software? I believe you said
that you did the update using your iPad. But did you also update the firmware?
I ask because after reading your email, I used my iPad to update the app only.
I was able to use the app with no real issues. I don’t know if things would be
different if I updated the firmware. I did not per update the Sonos app on my
iPhone 15 Max.
