I found and corrected the problem!
On my wife's phone, she had my phone number in her own contact info for some
reason,
and since alphabetically her name comes before mine in her contact list,
her phone was recognizing my number associated with her name.
Once she removed my number from her info, the only place for the phone to
find that number was with my name.
Problem solved!
Based on these results, I would say that the phone identifies the incoming
number, then performs an alphabetical search of the contacts list
and places the associated name with the number.
At any rate, thanks to everyone that responded to my original post!
Take care,

Did you check your text message settings?
You can send and receive text messages with Email addresses as well as phone
numbers.
Make sure Apple didn't assign an Email address by default.

What email addresses are set in the message settings.
I have three, but in there is also a setting for starting new conversations,
check that address. If you reply to a thread from when you both had the same
address, it will continue to show the original sender as whoever it was that
started the conversation.

Re: Text Messages with Wrong Sender Name

2016-11-11 Thread Richard
Hi Kelly,
Yes, My contact info is associated as the owner of the phone, and doesn't
contain any of my wife's information.
I haven't checked my contact info on her phone yet.
I got to thinking that possibly something on her phone may be the problem.
When I send her a text from my phone,
it has her name on it as the sender, kind of strange. (smile)
Thanks for your response!
Rick

rick,

Have you created a contact for yourself and associated your contact as
the iPhone owner? Also, Is her phone number listed anywhere in your
contact identity? Another possibility is that she sent you or copied
you on an e-mail and listed your phone number as hers. finally, is
your phone number listed in your contact identity?
